"the 240v plug is 'upside down'. In this brilliant piece of design, the switch on the power point is blocked by the unit when it is plugged in."

So it's actually a Chinese plug, which are the same as ours but upside down..

Good price, however 500mA is quite a slow charger these days, some devices may need higher mA

Don't bother with 500mA. Too slow to be useful for your typical gadgets like phones. Oh, and the $20 RRP is an insult.

I agree, a 2000 ma charger provides up to 4 x the charging rateof this. It would take around 8 hours to charge a tablet, no good for a quick daytime battery boost.

I got one of these the usb has a female plug on the end of the cable. So its kinda like an extention cable from the usb power adaptor. Its only 500ma so its pretty weak.I think itll be better if it was just a usb power supply with a female socket on the actual unit. And yes the power brick is upside down taking alot of space on some powerboards.

So I can just plug in a usb cable on the unit. And not worry about additional messy cabling.
ooh i brought mine for $2.95 at DSE burwood last year.

Also I just plugged in a usb "power doctor" to measure how many volts and amps the DSE usb power supply gives out.
Its a solid 5.08v and 0.50amps.It doesnt fluctuate very much only +/- 0.2 (both voltage and amps).

So the power output of the DSE power supply is constant and clean.Unlike the other usb power supplys which fluctuate alot more. .So a bonus point for that.

Id prefer getting a 2.1amp usb mains power supply to charge my usb devices quicker though/
Good to leave around the house though. I've got about 30 usb power adaptors at home (Yes 30+ ) bundled with various electronic items i buy.

The cable may be an advantage for those with power points that are not real close to where they want to charge stuff.

Too bad about the 500mA limitation…

500mA… thanks but no thank… I'll give it a pass, don't want to buy junk!!!

    • +3

you've come to the wrong website for that…

      • I think you got it wrong mate, ozbargain is about buying junk that works not buying junk that is way outdated and next to useless… (no offence intended)

500mA wont charge a Samsung Galaxy S4, S5 or even an Apple iPhone or iPad

      Charges my 5c every night……

      • +3

Does it become $1 in the morning?

    • +1

No it works, it's just slower.

500mA is not worth it. Too slow for most devices these days.

Okay if you charge overnight and can afford the time.

    • I should correct my earlier posting, my old HTC Senstaion would not even start charging, let alone "slow" charging when it plugs into a 500mA charger.

  • 2008 just called, it wants its charger back.
