I certainly would not recommend this for actual climbing purpose. I would recommend it for using it as a bag hook thing

Would you trust a 39c buckle climbing a mountain?

    • +2

Only if I wanted to look good doing it

Great for hanging your Beats headphones around your waist; when you get tired of hanging them around your neck.

  • Me get shocked by the picture, seriously, hanging your life on a 50c coin?

  • +1

awesome deal for someone contemplating death

  • I wouldn't even trust hanging my car keys on this!

PS. These can be had much cheaper on AliExpress (about 25c each) when bought in bulk (10 pieces).

    • He probably bought 2 and used 1 as a backup.

  • got this last time for a cent (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/166634) and was utterly disapppinted by the quality. lucky i got it for next to nothing.

    • And you lived to tell us about it.

That has to be a good sign…

      • i lived because i wisely decided against using it to climb… ;)

        • So what do you use it for? It's a 'Mountain Climbing Clip'

        • i was going to us it as a keychain, but they sent me such an ugly colour so i couldn't bring myself to even doing that…

    • What were you disappointed by?

      • while it says "aluminium" on the description, it really feels like plastic.

I got this for $0.01 in Oct 2014 for monty.melb's 500th post deal.
    It's ok for keys.

  • Doesn't have a keylock nose. Definitely not suitable for climbing.

Even if it does, I would only use it for hanging gear to backpack.

Assuming this isn't rated for climbing purposes, it should be illegal to claim that it is. I don't know that it is but just saying there should be a law against it. If someone used this to climb and when it falls apart and someone dies, the vendor here should be liable for the death.

On the flip side, I assume most climbers are smart enough not to fall for this.

      It's from China.

Equipment like this is useful for weeding out the gene pool.

…and the rest are dumb enough to fall from this?

Of course… we'll never hear from the ones that weren't.

Th only thing I'd hang off this would be a small water bottle…

The photo on the site showing the climber is misleading and dangerous.

This + my multifunction tool card and a small CREE torch - $7 all up - Everest here I come.

lmao jesus christ, the lows that some ozbargainers go to just blows my mind

If this were an Aussie based company it would be illegal for them to advertise the product as being suitable for climbing. I don't see why it should be okay for an OS company to make these sort of claims here.

  • Yes, they should be given a chance to change the misleading name, or be hanged. Hanged by one of these on a rock cliff, to deeply reflect on how much a climbing caribiner it is.
