Free Mobile Internet in Spain for All Tourists (15 Days 300MB Daily)

1020

Last year I posted this when FreeClick had a 4-month trial. Since then, FreeClick has become a permanent freebie for all tourists visiting Spain. Great concept, and a nice money saver for people visiting this fabulous country. Enjoy :)

FreeClick is a free service that includes a pocket WiFi hotspot and guaranteed 300Mb of free internet traffic daily. This covers the needs of 97% of users. A reservation deposit of 30€ is fully refunded to the customer when the device is returned. If more bandwidth or features like TomTom GPS are required, users can increase the deposit by 4.90€, 14.90€, 24.90€, 34.90€ or 44.90€.

FreeClick is free of charge for up to 15 days. When finished, the device is returned to us by dropping it off at any postbox. Return is also free because an envelope and postage are also included.

I've let my luckier friends know.

Never received any contact from last time. Applied twice, one month apart.

    Seems slightly dodgey:

    • Same here, applied after last deal, two weeks before arrival received email asking for credit card details (security deposit), the only free option was pickup, only one place in Tenerife, which is not a small island by any means. It did look dodgy to me at that time too. Much easier to just pickup a prepaid sim anywhere. We ended up just using free wifi in hotels and other tourist areas.

Tl;dr don't get your hopes up high

    • I tried 5 times, months apart, and no response. Even treid while I was there… Maybe they don't like ozbargainers

    Muy bueno!

It's not a freebie, it requires a ticket to Spain…

    • +4

Well nothing is truly free then unless its within walking distance.

Wear and tear on the shoes though

        • Unless the bargain was for free shoes?

        • Plus the stored energy in your body to do the walking. That food didn't cost nothing.

        • What about overheads and running costs? Whos gonna pay for the cleaning of clothes, showering and medical bills?

        • @richmond12: Centrelink?

Just in time for our trip in May, hopefully it works, was thinking of buying local sim.

    • Let us know how it goes - will be there in September.

      • No problem, will do. There is a lengthy thread on tripadvisor with post from owner of the startup explaining all the details and difficulties they had as the beginning, people ordering and not picking up etc., this is why they have introduced refundable deposit, so looks like legit deal.

Now I have a good excuse to go to Spain :)

  • Fabulous Country? Have you been?

    • Twice :)

      • It's ok for a cheap holiday from Northern Europe, but not exactly what i would describe as 'fabulous'… Well not compared to Australia anyway.

        • Australia sets the bar pretty high though. Most people have it better than they'll ever know here.

  • PIZZA offer "NOT IN AUSTRALIA"

    But this is??

    How does that work?

  • Hmmm, do these make you go homicidal maniac?

  • how much did this originally cost? if it's permanantly free then free wifi at singapore airport also a deal?

    • +4

You're comparing airport with whole country. How many countries do you know where they send you actual MiFi device for free?

Good deal for those who're travelling to Spain, if you are not going just ignore it.

This is actually free 3G/4G internet, not just wifi, and they provide you a mifi device as well. Comparative service can cost >100 EUR.

Used this last July when I visited in Barcelona after tightarse first posted it. I walked 15 mins from where I was staying off La Rambla to the local office to pick it up. Unfortunately I had some issues with the connectivity of the device but they couriered me a new device to use that day. Was a really handy thing to have and posted it back the day I left and got my full refund. Apart from the minor blip with the first device not working, the service was great.

Thanks for posting this, looks like it's a real deal. No harm booking one and if it doesn't arrive I can always buy local sim card while there.

  • This would have been so useful when I got mugged in Barcelona a few years ago. No money no passport but I had my smartphone, could have ozbargained.

    • They didn't take your smartphone? Must have been an iPhone ;)

  • Is there a way of having (ie. buying) this for a longer period? I havent come across an option/offer on their website

  • Going to Spain ? :)

    • if your question was directed at me, yes. Up to 2 months later this year (northern camino - what was i thinking!)

      • My question went to all, but since you found yourself, why do you think its not good ?

        • I have no problem with the base offer - but I would like to extend the 15d free period to say 8w in total (if possible)(and paying for the additional period)

        • @roonie:

Then I got you wrong, it's a nice place, good thinking about the period extension… Enough time to relax.

  • Looks like they have increased delivery fee from 4.90€ to 14.90€ which obviously is not refundable. You can probably find sim card with 1GB data for this price, not sure now what to choose.

    • No they haven't. (The Delivery section has typo's.)

      • Hmm, strange, I've sent them email asking about it and they've replied with 14.90€?

I went to Barcelona a month ago. Reserved the device and paid 34.90 and chose the pickup option at one of the ASM centres instead of posting to hotel (hoping to save costs).

Posted it back the day I left (using the included envelope). Took them a month to refund me the deposit but they only refunded 20 Euro. I asked why and they replied with this:

"All delivery, in your case to ASM Barcdelona C/Rosello has a cost of 14,9 €

Freeclick takes no commission, and refunds 100% of the deposit exept for the shipping cost"

I feel like I've been cheated. It's not free at all and costs 14.90 Euros. I was only in Barcelona for 5 days. Could have purchased a prepaid sim. Plus took me ages to find the ASM place to pick up the device.

  • My experience with FreeClick was exactly the same as proudwanderer. I've just returned from a vacation in Spain and received a refund of only 20.00 Euro after 2 weeks from returning the device. I was in Spain for only 14 days.

There was no mention of this charge during the sign in process. I subsequently found a note in their 'News/Updates' section indicating that a charge of 14.90 Euros will now apply to all deliveries. It seems that the only way to get 'free' FreeClick is to stay at a Hotel that stocks these devices…. Forget it!
