  • So only first month, right?

    • Maybe not, if you have $19 they can debit every month.

I want to read the plan's CIS = Critical Info Summary.

      Where is it?

What's their data block size, for billing purposes?

Do they charge for 1800 calls? If so, how much?

      etc.

      • Coles may have Luca SIMs for $2 in-store, unlike DSE, who want ~$6 to ship one(!)

        • Clarifying: DSE costs $8 ($2 + ~$6 S+H), No in-store option!

      • +1

        This deserves a TIO complaint:

" The customer will NOT be able to cancel the plan once the plan is activated/purchased. "

        • Some other mobile resellers charged a fee to leave their no-contract prepaid service.
          What does Luca do?

        • It means once you activate the plan for that month you can't cancel and change plan or get a refund. You are not stuck on it indefinitely.

        • @boggie: I think it is more the case if you change from Supersaver to something else (say) 2 weeks into your 30 days you don't get the balance of the 30 days back. I changed from the Minitalk 100 to Supersaver early and it gave me warnings that I still had 5 days to go on my Minitalk 100 and asked if I was sure as I will forfeit the balance of the Minitalk 100, I expect it is the same with changing from Supersaver to something else, BUT now I have had the freedom of the Supersaver even if/when it goes back to $29.90 I will actually stick with it because even at the higher price it is still a good deal and on Telstra 3G too

Also like I mentioned elsewhere insufficient balance no Supersaver renewal, so getting out is as simple as not paying either through phone balance or make sure attached card has insufficient funds, also at anytime on renewal you can change the settings through the website to disable Auto-recharge from your card anyway

I setup my auto recharge that if the balance is below $20 to do one Auto-recharge of $20 per 30 days of my phone balance so sooner or later as I accrue the 10%s that I will have the odd month when it won't raid my account, so when the plan goes back to $29.90 I will adjust that to $30 topup

    Ported wife over last deal.
    Nothing happened.
Wrote to online help. Nothing happened. Result:Learned their customer service is useless.

They have revealed themselves as hopeless and I am now glad they didnt port her over and have since read they are very very sh!t in many ways. Dodgy data, bad call quality and incoherent CS based in India.
I am looking for the next great deal to replace my Live Connected one but it wont be these clowns.

    • Aren't Lyca part of the same company as Live Connected and Vaya? Thought I read that somewhere… explaining the "customer service" consistency, lol

      • +1

No I think Lyca is a UK company.
BTW they did send her a SIM, just made it impossible to actually use.
People were saying in the last deal that the seeming generous 5GB of data is messed up too. Something like it routing through Europe and being slow as.

        • Lyca Mobile is a Sri Lankan venture I guess and I accept their customer service is pretty poor . If you login to their facebook page and leave a message , things get attended to quickly . I'm using the $19 plan and apart from the poor customer care , nothing much to complain about from my end

p.s the porting took 10 days and happened only after the FB post to them

        • +2

          @kamban:
Well I got that from Wikipedia:
"Lycamobile is a mobile phone virtual network that operates in Australia……… the United States and the United Kingdom, where it is based"
          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lycamobile

How has your experience of the data flow been?

        • +1

          @King Tightarse:

The data allowance is not so bad . It often gets dropped , but I don't use the data apart from the usual 30 minute commute , so don't mind . The speed is like how it was in 2010 .

    • Why not "help" them improve, is, with lots a TIO complaints?
(1 / member, who had unacceptably bad experience)

  • how can they tell if you are usb tethering or not?

    • +1

According to the previous deal, no kind of tethering works Android/iPhone etc. Can anyone confirm?

Any idea what speeds you get with this?

      • Usb tethering is blocked.

        • how can they block it?

        • +2

@Calmerancer: In Android version 4.4 they enabled it for telco companies to detect if you are tethering.
I found this that may back track that change (even for unrooted phones), but I haven't tried it myself.
          https://pmf.silvrback.com/fixing-tethering-on-android-kitkat

          No idea regarding Apple though.

        • @Arkanite: so if i have version b4 4.4 it should work :) gota love my old phones :)

        • So, use an older 4.2.2 phone :+)

    • And what about using it to power a WiFi access point?

  • Hmm i have been researching this plan before posting here due to some negative comments from last deal posted about this. (search Lyca)

Called up their customer service for some answers.

It is a special PROMO however they can't tell me WHEN it will end….

    From:
    http://www.lycamobile.com.au/en/super-saver-plan
-The customer will NOT be able to cancel the plan once the plan is activated/purchased.

Free sim ordered from website takes ~7days
    data charged per mb.

    They use Telstra 3G network.

Have ordered my sim, and we'll see how it goes i guess..

    • +1

regarding canceling, by default it auto renews, but if you have insufficient funds either in phone balance or attached credit/debit card then the plan stops, already helped a friend where plan stopped and I restarted it for him

  • left Pennytel months ago to go to Lycamobile, changed to Supersaver on 25th January still only paying $19 per month
by default tethering and Wifi don't work but there are workarounds (at least for android) google it

    • sorry im lost

      what does Wifi dont work

i have cable internet at home but have also on wifi

can i still use my wifi at home if i get one of these plans

      sorry for the stupid question

      thanks

      Johnny

      • Sorry I meant using lycamobile data for portable wifi hotspot won't work,
they seem to firewall certain traffic if they detect connection being shared.
When troubleshooting can tracert but after first hop second hop times out
then resumes on third or fourth hop which convinces devices sharing the connection
        that there is no internet

    • if you are jailbroken on iphone you can also bypass the tethering restrictions

      • like to see your results as the tethering issue with Lycamobile seems
to be provider related not phone related as have never had issues
sharing internet connection from other providers
which in the case of Lycamobile PdaPlusNet seems to work around this

        • i have been tethering for 2 months on my jailbroken iPhone 5s and I have no trouble with tethering

  • I recharged for $19 a couple of days back , still works .. Just turned off the auto renewal so that I'm not being overcharged whenever they change the pricing ( they are fickle in pricing department )

    • If they raise price without notice, TIO will surely tan their hides. :-)

      • That's good to hear :)
Though they try to cover their asses saying the rates can change at any time

        • +2

I use their service before, they increase price per minutes after one month, and they said they have right to change price anytime without notice me.

  • PRO: when you recharge phone balance online with credit/debit card you get 10% bonus credit

CON: when you recharge phone balance online with credit/debit card you get international purchase fee (approx 1.5% I think)

    • Recharged online for 3 numbers last week with my credit card. Checked bill, no international purchase fee.

      • oh well must be my ingdirect account then, unless your bank holds back international purchase fees till the end of the month or all together

    • Sounds like they had complaints about the 1.5% fee.

  • I would never go back to Telstra 3G (which Lyca uses) after now having Telstra 4G. It is not about the speed but rather the coverage. There are many spots with no 3G coverage in Perth which are fine under 4G. It may be a different story in other cities/areas.

  • I also ported out my two Live Connected number to Lyca last week. Recharged $10, got $1 as bonus, also with 1GB data for free. Then joined the minitalk 100 plan. So far happy with 3G speed and reception.

  • +1

I've read the Ping is high, so the response when navigating online can have some lag. Any feedback? Also, are the data speeds ok? Are they consistent?

I'm with spintel and pretty happy wiy the Optus 4G coverage with the iphone 6 as it uses the 700mhz spectrum and as s result get much better call quality and data speeds indoors

  • I requested 4 sim cards to port over when this deal was posted last. Never received the sim cards; and now I am glad I didn't get them & try to port over, as I have heard what seems like endless bad reports.

  • +1

Try to call their 1300 number and you wil never get through.

    Enough said

    Avoid

  • Only 3G coverage issues I have seen are with devices that don't support 3G 850 and so finding areas that do 3G 2100 is a problem
I was very impressed with 3G speeds with under utilized towers I was visiting Cessnock in the Hunter Valley and must have had a tower practically
to myself and was doing P2P traffic as fast as my 25MBPS Fibre NBN at home in Blacktown
    not too shabby for 3G

  • I ported the number from Vodafail and had to speak to them only once, smooth conversation now I'm on Telstra's 3G network with very little black spots and very little call failures compared to Voda!

    • T 'Wholesale 3G map this would be, some 1/2 the footprint versus Retail. Real or imagined, the way that it improves is Voda / Optus extending coverage. Then, TW align with that.

  • Where can you pick a sim up from? Coles Wollies? I have tried but not found any yet?

    • +2

wollies have it but ur best bet is to try CTC or most petrol stations have it

      • Cheers. Thanks

  • Using the same plan from few months, feels good to me. No problems. Recharge $20 and send a text 6129 to 3535 and you are on.

  • Could some users please comment on real life data speeds?
People were canning it in the last deal.

  • +2

Way too many features missing as predictable. Count them all lte/kB/MMS/mins/Retail. UL/DL. Ping. Helpdesk. People want to be seriously poor to save 10 dollars here.
    http://lycamobile.com.au/sysimages/editorfiles/PDF/LM_SUPER_…

Reports over QoS/+roaming issue and may not be surprised if LM the lowest service precedent in AU. Can not be misled.

    • There has not been a single substantiated report of a customer being throttled, nor of their data being routed via Europe. Happy to provide as many tracert's as you like to verify this.

  • +1

    seriously no MMS?

  • Can't initiate iMessage with lyca since I've ported over. I'm guessing it's a lack of international sms. Any ideas people?

    • +1

If anyone is interested you need extra credit for international sms so once I topped up $10 to the account imissage was initiated and now works :)

  • So just to clarify, it says that customers cannot cancel…does that just mean once you pay your monthly fee then you can't get a refund for that month or is there a minimum term of months?

I'd try this I just want to make sure I can pull the pin if they are dodgier than expected….

    Thanks team

  • +1

in case you need to contact their helpdesk, good luck. It takes ages to connect with them and most of the time they dont understand problem

  • My experience so far…

    • I order the sim cards and they arrived within a few days.
    • Went through activation on the website and opted to port my number.
    • Instantly received an SMS on my current number advising that the port would be successful.
    • 4 days later and still nothing had happened.
    • Email customer support, took 3 days to respond and was advised that the sim needed to be activated with a new number before port in, contradicting the website process completely.

    • I am still tempted to follow through as LiveConnected want to double my monthly bill from $12 to $24 for the same allowances.

  • I just signed up this week.. porting took 3 hours in my case from amaysim. no mms yeah but I use shitbooks messenger anyways.. they said price will stay sane till further notice. Gave them $20 for credit.. they give you an extra $2 in your account. Good luck! !!

  • +1

This company just like Lebara, they will increase price without notice, because there is no contract.

    • And where they have not moved quickly, they get extinguished, like Kogan RIP (2013).
Best to just see it as 3o & side step it completely with a full service carried deal.
      ->Whistleout is friend
      ..
Data/LTE in common - sky is your limit.

  • By the way anyone who cant wait for a free Simcard, you can walk in to woolies or 7eleven etc and buy one for $2

regarding MMS I don't send any but occasionally receive some and am sent a link to a Telstra login and a unique password
for the individual message to see it in a browser window on my smart phone.
any time I want to send a photo I just attach it and send it with Gmail

P.S. Tethering try PDANETPLUS (works for android) costs $8 for full version otherwise demo times out from time to time

  • Ordered 4 SIM cards and got them in 2 days. Ported over from vaya in 1 hour

  • I've been using LM for last 7 months (When Super Saver was $29) Never had an issue. Yeah, they never sent me FREE SIM though, which I've ordered from their website but I got it for $2 from 7-11. Ported over from Live Connected in 1-2 hrs. for sure, I remember that. Now, Super Saver is $19 and I am making most out of it through Calls & Data. I have no complain regarding slow data (live in West of Melbourne & Use Note 3). of course it's slower than my previous 4G on Live Connected but I am getting much better coverage where I live and where I work (compared to Optus). IMO it's worth if you love to talk with your mates and use more data on the go over home based Internet.

  • Ported both my wife and myself over yesterday. It actually went pretty smooth after I realised I made a mistake earlier.

One note to any iPhone owners. Top up $20 as your first top up and DO NOT go straight to the $19 auto top up. The reason is that iMessage activation is not included in the bundle so you need at least 15c of credit to activate it.

I would always recommend the manual top up as well due to the fact that you don't get the 10% bonus on auto top up.

    • actually in my experience rather than doing plan auto topup so $19 at a time
you can do credit auto topup $20 at a time get the extra 10%
then set the account to renew the plan from credit balance
in fact I have mine set to auto renew plan from credit balance
then have an auto check if balance is below $20 then recharge $20
no more than once every 30 days, so after a number of months I will
actually have sufficient credit to apply the plan and then not need
      to recharge the credit balance

  • Can anyone confirm if i can use lycamobile sim card for my Lumia 530 telstra locked phone?

    • No, it won't work. Sorry!

  • +1

Looks like they have removed the offer, Its back to $29.90 per month. They really should put an expiry on the offer so you know when it will end. Shame it ended, good deal.

  • From the website - Price and allowance effective from 06/04/2015
My supersaver topped up today still at $19 so at least I still have all the bells and whistles till the 26/4/2015

  • I have to admit I have been enjoying not watching the number of calls I make , the dropping of data to 2GB is gonna hurt, anyway I will stay with it for the time being have adjusted my auto topup to if balance drops below $30 topup with $10 for a maximum of 3 times in 4 weeks to hopefully maintain as close to $30 for the auto bundle topup from phone balance
