  • Correction: 2x $30 iTunes voucher - $45 in the picture

    • Apologies. I was too fast on the keyboard lol. I'll edit it now

    Wow cheapest 530 yet!

  • +6

Yes great price on the 530. If only there was a way to unlock it.

    • +3

Yeah, Telstra unlocking fees are ludicrous

      • would get if unlocks was cheap :(

        • +5

If you wait 2 years, unlock is free.

If you wait 6 months, unlock is $27.50 (use cheap Telstra credit from a SIM to unlock it).

        • +5

in 2 years the phone will be completely outdated haha

        • +9

@Pacify: It'll be fine as a smartphone that makes calls, sends text messages, and surfs the internet.

Right now, the phone is already bottom of the barrel - TN display, no autofocus camera, no LED flash, no front camera, no light sensor, no proximity sensor.

A plus would be that you can easily swap out the battery once the included one wears out.

Another bonus is that it's physically smaller than most smartphones these days.

        • @Pacify: and it's not already?

        • +4

          True that.

Pick up a cheap micro SD card and it's one of the cheaper MP3 players on the market. With bonus telephone/text/internet functionality.

Which is what I'm using for (listening to music).

        • +3

          @Pacify:
still can be used as navigator with HERE maps

        • Bag_man can unlock it for $25.00 USD, i emailed him this morning about price and he said 25 USD, he did unlock mine last year for 15 AUD.

        • +1

@hellosarju: The price for unlocking is nearly double (32AUD) than last year :(

        • @tianyujojo: Ya, he said supplier has put up the price so charging more

        • +4

@hellosarju: Just wait 6 months and use the credit from a half price or better Telstra $30 Starter pack to cover the $27.50 unlock fee.

Much cheaper than using real money to unlock it.

        • +1

          @happychappy1:
          I have to ask:

How do you use the credit to unlock it?

        • +5

@Donatello: Make sure you have sufficient credit. Then call up the prepaid line and ask them to use the credit to unlock it. It's that simple.

Note, real credit, not cap bonus. It can be from any Telstra prepaid account you have.

        • @happychappy1:
Thanks for the info. I thought you had to jump through so many hoops via Hellstra's procedures.

        • +1

          @Pacify:
its completely outdated already, but some people don't care!

        • @happychappy1:

Telstra must've dropped its 6 month-unlocking price to $25, because that that's what they quoted two days ago. Even better using cheap credit.

        • +2

@happychappy1: Thanks for the tip, I had no idea they let you do that.

I got a Lumia 520 for my mum when it first came out, she actually likes it more than her old phones. I set the "Tile" icons on the screen to 3 that fill the screen width i.e. calls, messages and email. It' simple & easy to navigate and large icons for those with eye sight difficulties.

Definitely recommend it those who find one in a store. Even if Telstra isn't for you, it'd make a great travelling companion with HERE maps seeing as you can take a full country map offline. (about 400-500MB of offline map data for all of Australia)

          Pos for your name.
          Hilarious!

    • I can get it done for $25

      • Lol you totally live up to your name

  • +1

    Great deal on the 530!

  • Telstra locked prepaid phones won't with Boost and Telechoice sims?

    • -2

Should work with Telstra and its resellers ie. Boost, Telechoice, Lycamobile, Aldi Mobile, etc.

      • No it does not.

        • My daughter purchased one late last year and uses Boost no problems. Just purchased one for my other daughter running boost also no problems .(Except i paid $10 to much)

      • +2

It's been confirmed previously they no longer work with resellers, only telstra.

        • +1

Are you sure they dont work with Boost, I thought that was one that did still work?

        • @Gravy:

Maybe boost, would have to dog through the older deal comments, or maybe on the whirlpool thread

        • +1

Does My Boost is in one now.

        • +2

Confirmed by who? please quote your source i will assure you they are wrong and this phone will work with Boost.

530 cannot upgrade to windows 10, keep waiting for 630

  • +1

Good price for 530. Got mine $39.5 a few months ago.

    • +1

It was a better deal before when it included 3 months of Skype unlimited (landlines only to Australia) - that alone is worth at least $20 (if not more).

      • You are right. I totally forget the Skype bonus I am still using.

  • +2

Like previous Big W mobile deals there will be hardly any stock.
Pepsi 24 can varieties deserves it's own post though.

    • Yeah. They have about 4 phones on display, that are super expensive and no one wants to buy. All good deals are sold out 6 moths ago.

  • +2

Yeah I would put the pepsi in title before someone makes another post :)

    • Can't post another one. I get suspended for posting a associated store every 24 hours

      • just add it to your title, you can change your title can't you?

        • +1

          Done

        • +4

@taQ: Good job m8 and great post by the way

        • +4

@TRENT86: thanks Trent. Means a lot coming from you

        • +6

          @taQ:

          Awwwwwwwww Ozbargain moment……

My 530 updated to Denim. Cortana is a b*tch.

  • +1

Tempting to pick up a 530 for this price to see how good or bad windows 10 on mobile will be

    • yeah this

i know this phone is a piece of shit but i dont want to spend $300+ on an 830 or something that is actually decent

$30 isnt much to blow on an whim

  • Thanks op! Any nintendo console ? 3ds? 2ds? Xd

    • Nope. Only gaming related is the Disney Infinity 2.0 starter pack which is half price at $44

    • The Pokemon 2DS are on clearance for $120. I bought one on Thursday.

      • I was referring to the catalogue

  • +2

Is the sale starts on thursday 02/04 or it's a "saturday only deals"?

    • judging by the catalogue, the front page is Thusday to Monday but the back is Saturday only. I'll change the info so no one gets confused. Thank you for bringing that up

  • I already have a Telstra sim. Can I slip it into this phone without incurring any fees?

    • No fees.

      • Great thanks ddhytz.

  • The Dyson vacuum cleaner does anyone know if Myers or Target will price match? I have a giftcard which will be perfect for this!

    • The barrel vacuum cleaner looks like an older model. The new Dyson's have balls. But if Myer or Target do stock that model then I'm sure they would match it.

  • Tried Macquarie Big W for the Nokia Lumia 530 and was turned away, saying the price is $79 until April 4th
Nowhere else had Telstra locked stock and so couldn't price match anywhere.
    Very disappointed.

    • +1

Can you put phones on lay-by? And then just pick it up on the day when it's on sale?

      • That's actually a really good idea, although something tells me they're not likely to oblige.

      • +1

If it's in the catalogue, they should have them in stock. Just call up the day before to get them to reserve it. They can reserve stock for a day.

        • Fair enough, but I'm thinking now that I'll get the Telstra Tempo for $19 from Harvey Norman. Supposedly runs android better than the Lumia 530 runs Windows Phone 8.1

        • +1

@Rail Rider95: I would get the Lumia 530 instead, as the Tempo is basically a cheap Chinese phone (i.e., mediocre all round with no support).

On the other hand, the Lumia 530 has the core technology of Nokia phones, like rock solid call and audio quality, as well as a guaranteed upgrade to Windows 10. You won't be seeing any upgrades to the Tempo, and Windows Phone is much lighter on resources (they aren't relying on advertising and tracking your usage like Google does).

        • @Rail Rider95:

How can I get it for $19?

        • -1

          @aiyoyo:
It turns out I misread the bin label at Harvey Norman. However it was on special there yesterday, for $25

  • Coles also have slabs of the Pepsi brands' drinks on sale for $9.50. Grabbed 7 the other day and a Sunkist slab about half an hour ago.

    • $9.50? they were $12 when I went on Sunday (yesterday) and didnt have Next that I wanted.

      • Sorry to hear that. They still had them today at Coles, but their specials reset on Wednesdays, don't think I'll be in one before then so I can't photo.

        • You are in Vic so must be difficult prices the qld I guess.

  • I've been on Telstra prepaid a while now - maybe a year. If i was to call for an unlock straight away do you think I would get it? Travelling soon and this would be good for this purpose instead of taking my bulky phablet

    • You could try, why not? Let us know the end result :)

    • +2

You'd probably have to pay for it. The unlock depends on the age of the phone itself, not the age of your account, although you may get a discount.

  • +1

    24x Can Pepsi Varieties $9.50

    7x 30 can packs for $6.50 each @ woolworths :)

    • +5

Coke and Pepsi are two different things

  • FYI, if HN is closer to you - Canon Pixma MG2560 All in One Inkjet Printer $18 Was $28 @ Harvey Norman I have this printer for a few months, works well, just need your old USB cable to plug in.

  • Pepsi is good, Coles is $12 for 24. And they have Pepsi Next, coles doesnt.

  • When is this catalog getting released? It's not on the website yet.

  • I'm keen on the nokia 530. Is this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/187773 the cheapest way to unlock?

  • Will this work with a Telstra reseller, like Aldi prepaid?

  • possible to claim 28degree price protection on Nokia 530?

  • Is it possible to get the Nokia 530 online or click and collect?

    • No. You'll have to go in store to get it.

  • I'm planning to pick up a couple of 530s for my folks. However a friend of a friend reportedly had a staff member at Big W tell them that the 530 is only 29 dollars on contract. This seems ludicrous since I'm 99% sure they're always sold pre-paid, but can anyone confirm or deny?

I'm planning on stopping by to try and clarify the situation after work today.
