  • Says $6.32 for me, still a very good price though…
    Thanks OP!

    • Apply the CTECH20 code. Brings price down to $5 click and collect

      • i got $5.06!

      • Do remember though, that you can only use that code 3 times; so if you plan to make a few more substantial purchases, it wouldn't be wise to use the code here to save ~$1.30…

Under rated power, it lists the voltages. Dick Smiths used to be useful :-/ Still, thanks OP.

  • I have a dead power brick that has the following specs 8V, 700MA, Will this one work in its place???
    Cheers

    • +1

If your appliance doesn't mind 8.4V, possibly. Check that the power brick specifies DC, some output AC.

    • +1

Yes, I have had times when the ACDC power adapter wasn't exactly like the burnt out one and it worked.

If you look down that ebay page you'll see the range of adjustments of output voltages for this power adapter.
In your case originally needing 8V 700MA, I would switch this ACDC adapter to 900mA max at 7.5 Volts setting.
The 9V setting might be a little too much extra and over heat you gadget. Or it might be okay, depends how sensitive your gadget is.

You want to get as close as possible to the voltage being "pushed" by the ACDC adapter. At the 7.5V setting it can supply up to 900mA but your gadget will only "draw" 700 mA because that's all it needs.

  • Good find, thanks. I'm often coming across old laptops without power supplies - this is going to be very useful.

    • +5

I doubt if it will supply enough voltage or current for laptops, max output voltage of this is 8.4 and laptops run at a higher voltage, usually something between 12 and 19. Also those plugs tend to be larger diameter.

      • hmm, cheap experiment then! or maybe just refund on pickup

  • Sorry I'm really not tech savvy … Would this mean you could use here a small appliance (say purchased in US) made for 110 volts?

Edit- sorry, just realised- this outputs DC and I'm talking about AC

  • +1

$4.99 for me minus the cashback.

  • Original price was $38.98…. LOL

  • +1

So it tops out at 12v and is only capable of pushing 700ma for a piddling 8.3watts of power.

This thing is crap and it won't power any of your devices that you plan on using it with.

Maybe an old Gamegear or something along those lines, but anything modern and this thing is useless.

      Open your mind.

Modems, network switches/hubs, mouse charger, psp, power bank, gps, computer speakers, media player…

I've drawers full of gadgets. Don't always have the charger.

      • What modem uses less than 700ma at 12v?

What powerbank isn't powered by USB?

Computer speakers less than 8w? To get a better replacement would be the roughly the same cost as this power supply, and it will come with a power supply.

GPS, indoors? Powered by a wall socket?

The PSP requires 2a at 5v, so no it won't work.

Media players that are capable of playing any codecs that are better than potato quality will require much more power than this is capable of also.

Mouse charger, well yes actually. You got me on that one!

        • -1

Because you don't know, they dont exist? Everyone here who bought one (& the 270+ on eBay) are all morons? Great attitude.

GPS has internal battery. Power bank only charging by usb? Lol. Computer speakers 5w. One of hundreds of modems: TP-Link TD-8817
          Ergh… why bother
My point was: It's $5, 1/4 price (at least) of anything I've seen before. Why the hate?

  • +3

Thanks op, this is cheap. I bought a similar one from Jaycar for $35. I don't need another, but I bought it anyway cos it's cheap

    • +1

Yep, bought 2. Had a baby monitor that had the power supply like this died on me. Bought this exact unit which went for 2 years. Babies now four an bb bf five years old but still find monitors useful. Previously paid $30, which was still cheaper than replacing the monitor.

    • @ mdippa "don't need another, but I bought it anyway cos it's cheap". He he he, thats the Ozbargain spirit!

  • Is pickup from Melbourne possible at all?? Its not finding anything here??

    Brant

    • Shows plenty available for pick-up in Melbs. for me Brant.

      • What exactly are you doing then???
I go to Ebay, select pickup, then I try and select the store…and it just keeps timing out on me!!

        Brant

        • Alls I did was click the "Go to Deal" bar at the top right of this screen you're on right now, then in the screen that comes up, which includes :

          "Collection:
FREE Click & Collect at Dick Smith | Select a store"

          I clicked Select a Store".

And ALL the VIC stores come up, with "in stock". It still works right now; except sadly for you, the price has shot back up to over $30…

  • +1

    prices are back to normal

  • Expired? Shows $38.98 before code now

  • ahh man.. missed it. This would be very useful.

  • Did dick cancel anyone elses order?

  • does anyone here got a confirmation for collection? still no news, emailed them but still no reply..

    • DSE refused to honor my order, that might be what happened to yours

      • not good man, not good at all. damn dse!!!
