CTECH20

Part of the eBay 20% off tech deal
Handy PDF about the JAPAN-CHINA transfer of Eneloop found here:
http://www.master-instruments.com.au/files/news/eneloop_re_b… (AUG-2014)

These are manufactured in JAPAN! (Confirmed by Zirkaloy)

Note: Recharge up to 500 times, which is significantly less than normal eneloops, and more like standard NiMH. This is more useful for people who want high capacity and the ability to retain that capacity, not for frequent charging.

Anyone have experience with refunds on C&C purchases?

I'm happy to take one for the team (and report back in 30mins), but if I am greeted with Chinaloops I'd like my money back ;)

  • How about if they're made by Chinese under Japanese supervision?

    • Apparently, it won't make any difference in their quality. They probably using inferior material, or greater manufacturing tolerances (material purity, less tight or greater tolerances, for example).
According to the link to the article I've post below, Panasonic didn't want to respond to the writer enquiries which is backed by proper test.
      Something fishy…

  • I really want to find out as well. Chinese made eneloop is not as good as their japanese made counterparts.
Here is the accelerated test that shows the differences:
    http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?392229-Ja…

    • And to be fair to the Chinese version, apparently the AAA versions compare much more favourably (candlepower tested).

But we're talking AA's today and Japan wins hands down.

  • Good, but these can only be recharged 500 times..

    • +3

Though to be fair (and refering to the link ben1680 provided), the regular Eneloops (Chinese version) claiming 2100 cycles are dying before 500.

These are 500 (Eneloop PRO) because of a higher mAh rating, ideal for certain uses - particularly DSLR flash etc. 500 is still a lot for all but the serious professional I reckon.

      • True. I'll stick with the regular Eneloops made in Japan.

        • +1

          I have 32 or 40 of those, and they're great :)

I just wanted 4 or 8 of these for flash lights and other odd applications that come along.

Most people get >2800mAh out of them using a decent charger. From memory the regular (I'm talking about JAPAN eneloops) get upto around 2250mAh.

    • So I believe the Chinese version of eneloop is still great to use for KB or Mouse, and JP version is a better choice for flashlights.

I have a 600EX-RT so probably have a look at this deal :-)

Hello, these Eneloop Pro ARE made in Japan. Same thing for the high capacity (green) Energizer rechargeable batteries. On the other hand, the white Eneloop rechargeable batteries are made in China.

I can guaranty you 100%, I have checked it in store :)

    • +1

You da man. May you earn +15 votes for this revelation!

I was about to pull the trigger and find out myself until I noticed the store won't be ready for pickup until 3 hours after I leave the state. Might C&C interstate now.

  • good stuff!

  • Thanks. Ordered 10.

    • Wow, glad I could help. What are your usage plans for the batteries? Genuinely curious.

      • High-end camera I bet. Orph is prolly going to get around the 500 charges limit by having a whole stack of them to rotate through. At this price, it's a legitimate/wise strategy.

  • FYI, its also at the same price on their proper website if you prefer to buy from there

    • you mean dicksmith website have 20% off too?? not via the ebay store?

      • No, I'm pretty sure it's cheaper on eBay factoring in the CTECH20 coupon. Also another 2% in cashback via eBay.

  • These are the new 'eneloops'. The are rebadged Eneloop xx 2400mAh. Made in Japan. Can get them from Amazon for about $10USD

    http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?382339-Du…

    Edit: They are LSD too.

  • Thanks Op. Bought 4 packs. I really hope these are really the MIJ ones…not that I don't trust you guys…but I read DSE sometimes screw their customers over..

    • +2

You're welcome. Can never be 100% sure when DSE is involved but I think we're safe. I bought 2 packs too.

The PDF + Zirkaloy's input makes me feel reasonably confident. Of course things could have changed but I think we'll be safe. I bet it's only a matter of time before production of these goes to China also, and with their 400-500 cycle limit (from a "2100" claim) on the general product line I would hate to know what they do to the Pro line. I think I'd rather Alkaline's by then!

So now is probably the best time to stock up on some Japanese Pro's before they become extinct.

  • Is it just me or are these Sanyo Tropical Eneloops Japanese made?
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ENELOOP-AA-Tropical-8-Pack/251777…
Also on DSE eBay, so also presumably part of the 20% off deal.
If I recall correctly, Sanyo originally owned Eneloop before selling it off to Panasonic who moved production to China.

    • +1

Some are still made in Japan. You have to be careful with DIck's though. They have been shipping Chinese ones but still using the old product photo.

      • Ah! Gotcha…

        • Yes, the problem is DSE not Eneloop. Packaging reveals differences, for the general line it will state 65% charge over 5 years (CHINA) or 70% charge over 5 years (JAPAN), they should obviously also state country of manufacture.

DSE just hasn't updated photos in years, despite being reported numerous times for it.

        • +1

          @Click_It:

"DSE just hasn't updated photos in years, despite being reported numerous times for it."

I note that the picture for the tropicals (also very cheap at the mo with the code) shows "70%", but the accompanying DSE text says 65%… Any chance the tropicals are MIJ? Or are they like the chocolates; all MIC?

A wee reminder to all too, remember that you can only use the CTECH20 code for a total of three transactions; so make sure you order all the ENELOOPS you want in one hit, rather than ordering some, then deciding later you want to order more later.

        • +2

          @GnarlyKnuckles:

I can only guess but I think it's a high probability of getting a MIC Tropical from DSE now. The only MIJ's they'd have would be old shelf stock. So I'm 90% sure it's MIC, or as I like to say, Chinaloops :)

Even the plain white Eneloops are MIC now. Until this morning I thought everything was MIC but apparently the Chinese factory hasn't gotten to the Pro line, yet.

If you want normal (non-Pro) MIJ Eneloops, your best bet is to look at the many rebadged options out there. Certain Duracels (ensure it says Made in Japan), most Fujitsu's and some Panasonics are also rebadged MIJ Eneloops.

I don't want to sound over-dramatic, but I think it's best to stock up on MIJ sooner rather than later, for those who want them.

    • Panasonic bought Sanyo a couple years ago. For a time, they continued using the Sanyo brand but they eventually absorbed all operations and rebranded everything to Panasonic.

I have a la crosse bc700 charger to use on my eneloops, but I find the charge and discharge functions do not charge up batteries to full capacity (when compared to using the discharge/refresh function).

e.g. discharge/refresh gets my pink eneloops to > 2100ma. Whereas charge and/or discharge only get them to around 1500-1800ma.

    Is this normal, anyone know?

    • I have the BC700 too. I haven't used mine in months so I'm not exactly sure but I do recall something funny with one of the modes. I'm pretty sure I use 'Discharge' mode and just let it do a full cycle, but one of them produced better results than the other. Could be the same issue you mention.

    • I think it only measures what it puts in, so if they're not dead flat, it only needs to top up the approx 15-1800ma

      • Oh yeah that sounds absolutely right. That must be why I do the discharge/recharge cycle. I researched it all when I bought it (years ago) and can't remember now.

And if anyone else is like me, occasionally you have a flat (DEAD FLAT) eneloop that the BC700 won't detect, that's where a "dumb charger" is handy. I've put eneloops in my cordless phone for 5 minutes then back into the BC700 to charge normally :) I would hope no OzBargainer throws seemingly dead eneloops out :)

  • Did anyone else get the SMS/Email saying it's ready to pick up?

Ironically I tried to C&C mine at an interstate store where I will be next Wednesday but it ran out of stock mid order, so I changed to my local one and low and behold it's ready now. I'll pick up tomorrow and double confirm the MIJ/MIC status :)

HEY! YOU KNOB! YOU JUST CHANGED THE PRICE ON ME!!!
All specials seem to be now removed.
I was just about to proceed with order, then my cart price increased…
    Nice one DICK.

    • +1

      it happens to me, too!!

I was checking out and when I am on paypal page, the price has doubled and ebay forwarded me to "review" the cart.

      Disappointed.

  • +3

    Bloody price just doubled.

    $28.98 now. :-(

  • +1

The deal is no more. Price has gone back to $28.98 but CTECH20 still works. Sad :(

  • +1

    Been dicked! 28.98 now! Grrrr

  • Classic Dick

  • I just got 20% more up my @$$

  • +1

Aghh sorry guys. Only 201 sold, I thought we'd hit 500+ before they either run out or pull a dick move like this.

I hope many of the 201 customers were from here. I can say that before I posted this deal <10 were sold and they weren't really moving (I spent an hour or so thinking about it before posting here) so it's likely 60-70% of those sales were us :)

Guys who missed out, if I get a chance tomorrow I'll try to dig up other deals that might work, I did see some that were almost as good (now superior to the new pricing), but look around in the meantime - can't dig now, wife is calling me in…

  • wow.. I was just about to complain that they charged me $15.74 and didn't process the ctech20 discount but seems like i'm still up..

still going to negative feedback them though if they don't fix it

  • Just got a call from dick smith emporium in Melbourne, apparently they sold more stock than they have in store so are now putting through refunds.

    • How doggy and waste of time it is.

I wonder if there is anyway we can make them accept rain check so we get the discounted product instead of refund.

  • +1

Oversold at one store, and told me they can't transfer the order through to another store that has stock.

    Purchased pretty early too.

Shouldn't be surprised that dick has left a bad taste in my mouth.

    • Eeeeeeeewwwwwwwwww

  • For those interested, I can now confirm these are indeed from Japan, just collected mine :)

  • Collected mine !

Made in Japan written on the box.

    Thanks :)

    • Told you guys! :)

      • And awesome at that…

I just did my first discharge/recharge cycle on Eneloop Pros and they are :

        2780, 2820, 2790, 2940 mAh

        Very impressive :)

I should have bought 100 packs and on sold them on eBay… My local has heaps of them left.

  • bit late for this deal but can anyone recommend any that are good for cordless landline phones?
need to be able to hold a long charge but will be put on and taken off charge multiple times per day

    • +1

While I don't own any, I believe that's what the Eneloop Lite's are for. Lower power and handle thousands of cycles, exactly what you'd want for that application.

How they compare with others I really don't know. If anyone has checked it out it will be candlepower forums.

  • Okay. Collected my 4 packs this morning and I confirmed the Black Eneloop Pro is made in Japan. I am pleased.
