Target Sound Plate $89 (down from $199) at Blacktown, NSW Target

51

Target Blacktown has a whole stack of these sound plates on sale.

Coaxial, optical, RCA inputs and bluetooth. Controls on the unit just in case you lose the remote.

Not sure of the quality of the sound, but this may be reflected in the new low price. But it's probably better than the sound that comes out of some LCD TVs.

They also had a number of other soundbars and sound plates on sale too. No name brands; all Target branded.

Not sure if this sale is nationwide.

I hope this helps someone.

That would make for an interesting warranty claim

And that'd be me for not adding more details to the description.

Sorry about that and thanks for the above link.

  • They're in the catalogue starting April 1 on page 30 for $59.

  • a question

why not just use a cheap set of PC speakers, say 2.1 and hide the sub?

just use the 3.5 headphone socket

i dont get soundbars and the like

    • I think the idea is for convenience sake. It's just one speaker and one cable that needs to be set up, rather than satellites, a sub, stands etc. And not all TVs have a headphone socket (2 out of my last 3 didn't). Also, most soundbars have bluetooth, so it's not just for home theater but streaming a phone/tablet to it.

But I agree, that a soundbar/plate won't sound as good as a dedicated home theater setup.

  • Pity the 20% off coupon doesn't work with home electronics

  • This model is made with MDF wood, very solid and heavy. If you like live concert, vocal you will like it. Good high and good bass due to the wood body. No crack with max volume.

If you want it for bluetooth, you might want to give it a pass as there is clicking/popping sound before and after each music or tone is produced. I think this is a bluetooth thing as lots of bluetooth speakers also suffering the same symptom. Bluetooth pairing with some model of andriod phone is also buggy.

If you use it for 3.5mm analog jack, please make sure the cable is good as it will induce noise to the speaker.

So far with the optical, it works really well.

The other model is from the catalogue, is made of plastic case, very flimsy and light. Save your $59.

    • Excellent review.

It is definitely heavy, which is a good sign.

Bluetooth is a great tech that companies haven't really implemented properly. I've had a few Bluetooth headphones that pop and the odd mouse that keeps dropping out. Wish they'd get their act together.

      Again, thanks for your review.

  • 4give my ignorance but what's the difference between a sound plate & a sound bar?

    • Different manufacturers have different definition. In this case, the sound plate from Target is flat, imagine a normal sound bar, 3 of these, placed together to form a sound plate. It has more space to give a more powerful bass than the normal sound bar.

    • The TV sits on a sound plate whereas a soundbar sits in front of it.

So if you want to save a bit of space and/or need to raise your TV a bit, get the plate.

      Hope this helps.
