******HNP + DESKTOP KEY AMNESTY DAY*************

'Guys – we want to thank everyone in the pool for hanging out with us and helping our customers with our service. In anticipation of some big things coming your way on 1 Dec – we want to offer every whirlpool member the chance to get HNP for $5 (or a desktop key for $5).

ALL OF THE $5 COLLECTED DURING THIS PERIOD WILL GO TO BEYOND BLUE (charity for those with depression).

The amnesty day will start at 1 minute past midnight on 24 Nov (which is technically the first minute of 25 Nov) and the end time is midnight on 25 Nov.

During this 24 hour period you can go to our website and purchase HNP and/or a TiVo Desktop Key for $5. Simply put WHIRLPOOL in the promo code.

Remember to set your calendar for this day to get to our website. Thank you sincerely for your help, feedback and contributions to other customers.

BIG BIG Surprise coming 1 December and as an EXISTING TiVo customer you will be the beneficiaries (beyond TiVo Genie service).'

No idea what the 'big thing on Dec 1st' is. Perhaps a model with a bigger drive?

Damn it!!! I paid $599 for the F#%King TIVO, then $200 for this stupid networking pack when I could have just used Play TV on my PS3!!! And offering $195 off is a bit of a punch in the face to those of us who paid $200 for the buggy unreliable software which is just port of the free american one. F#%K YOU Seven/Tivo!!!

But anyway $5 for either of these is a great bargain for anyone who has a tivo, tell your friends

I've always been a little curious of Tivo. I understand that its software is considered superior to other PVRs but with that kind of price tag, is it justifiable? Plus, the Play TV is out, which seems promising too. It may have been an excellent device a few years back, but how relevant is Tivo now?

+1. I'm struggling to see a justification for the enhanced pricetag over some other pretty decent PVRs?

Also, now I don't know if this is true or not, I'm just parroting; but I've heard the functionality of the devices we get here is somewhat inferior to those in the US!

Can anyone confirm or deny this, it's a rumour I've heard for a while now!

I don't have one myself ( I have a Topfield and Windows 7 media centre and EyeTV on a Mac).

Things that are good about Tivo:
free EPG for life (well as long as the Australian distributor is in business), not such a big deal now that the over the air EPG is pretty good.
sounds like it is easy to use - so good for non tech minded people.

    Bad things:
Apparently it stays on all the time, and has a fan, so it must use a fair bit of power and make a bit of noise.
The piddly 160Gb hard drive - and ridiculously high price of the 1Tb extender drive.
And yes, the $200 for the network software which should be included or at least below $50.

I switched out the internal drive for a Seagate 1tb drive the very first day i got the HD tivo (before even turning it on); no issues so far and have had it over a year. It took literally less than 30 minutes to do.
I have not really used any other brand of PVR other than tivo (I had an imported series 1 from the USA as well running oztivo). I'm very happy with the purchase so far, but I guess PVRs for the most part are the same.

I use a hacked apple tv for all my itunes music/xvids/dvdrips/photos etc; and use the tivo exclusively as a pvr. The tivo is probably the only toy i have purchased which the wife actually loves.

This is a great deal if you have a Tivo and don't yet have HNP.

I have HNP but will probably buy 2 more desktop keys as it does seem to not let you use the software on more than one PC simultaneously.

    • i bought my 2nd Tivo last week $499 at clearance price.

Do i need to get another HNP or Desktop keys to have both Tivo to share each others contents?

      • good price! where?

Ok, its display $39.95 on the tivo online shop, so how do i get it for $5?

  • Key has changed slightly!
    From WP thread -
"Just to recap… During this 24 hour period you can go to our website and purchase HNP and/or a TiVo Desktop Key for $5. Simply put WHIRLPOOL for the Home Networking Package or WHIRLPOOLKEY for an additional TiVo Desktop Key in the promo code.”

NOTE: The Home Networking Package includes 1 TiVo Desktop Plus key, but if you wanted to run HNP on multiple computers you can purchase an additional TiVo Desktop Plus key."

    • remember, all $5 goes to beyond blue!

    enjoy it guys :)

    • Thanks Adamiam, was having trouble with the additional desktop key, lucky I looked here first! I have got the Networking Package. This is a great deal!

  • Is it just me or is anyone else having problems with the checkout stage. It accepts the "whirlpool" promotional code and applies the discount but when you go to check out it renders a half empty page. Have tried from 3 different computers and browsers but same issue…grrr

  • Awesome, just bought
    1x Home Networking Package and
    3x Desktop Keys

Thanks guys! this is such a HUUGGGEE saving!
