18th of April : Jim Jeffries' favourite day of the year.

    • Not quite a Baby Boomer here - had to Google "Jim Jeffries". Now I know, FWIW. I did learn enough to know that he now goes by "Jim Jefferies", rather than "Jim Jeffries".

      • someone else in the actors guild was called Jim Jeffries, he had to add an extra letter. Not that it matters, his name is Geoff Nugent

I can just see the faces of the under 16 year old workers looking at randoms in their place of work thinking.. Dude.. why would you even bother coming to see this.

    • +6

I'm sure they'll understand once they're cooking up your freebies!

      • +12

We should all rock up with dslr cameras around our necks and pretend we're tourists..

At least KFC is more interesting than Canberra lol

  • +2

great idea, although you don't get to make your own meal, oh well, probably for the better, i'll leave it to the 14 year old professional behind the counter!

  • Hmm, that is my birthday… Though I'll be at work till 1pm :(

    • +14

  • +1

if one was to go on this tour would it be recommended to wear old clothing?
i am imagining that just by walking through there your clothes will not smell/feel the same with all that oil

    • +2

Go naked and get a free waxing.

  • +6

I don't want to know what actually goes on in the kitchens at KFC. I think it would turn me off the product forever.

    • +1

Like they are going to do anything dodgy while people are there, trust your instincts regardless of where you eat

      • +9

They'll probably hide all the bats in the freezer.

        • +7

          "Chicken of the cave"

      Bloody scalpers

    • Eltham 10am session still open

  • +2

I did this last year. My host looked after us (more than 2 pieces ;-)).

Despite what most people think, they are probably the freshest, particulaly when compared to MacDonalds, Burger King/Hungry Jacks, & Subway.

    • +6

KFC chips are a hit and miss for me though. However, when cooked right with just the right amount of seasoning, they beat any other chips handsdown!

  • they so you how they prep and chicken cook the chicken fresh so you get really hot and crispy chicken at the end. Best KFC ever.

  • My local KFC doesn't do tours (Doesn't even show the store on the map) and I can't be bothered going to another one several K's away for a feed, I might be an OzBargainer but I am NOT desperate.

    • +12

Let's be honest, there is a correlation between the two.

    • +6

A true OzBargainer would hitch-hike just for this deal

  • i worked in maccas back in my youth …it's not worth going in the kitchen with the greasy kids who will drop your food as soon as your back in turned.

    • +2

      Is that what you did?

  • Remind me not to buy KFC on that day when their kitchen turns into a tourist hotspot

    • +2

If i was going to eat at KFC, the 18th april is likely to be the one day they actually DO stick to cooking times, quality control etc.

  • +1

it will be a more interesting tour on how much they have got to clean up their kitchens a week or a day before the Tour day. Action Pack Guarantee !!!
Im gonna miss the oily grease feeling on the take away counter so much after the tour day.

  • I tried to book a session 30mins after I received the email from KFC. All booked out across Victoria, I thought of every surburb I could think of, even Westside.
    Sigh, not fast enough :(

    • +1

what about the one in Warnambool :) Free KFC for the trip !!

      • +2

I'm a fat bastard for KFC but I do have my boundaries lol.

    • Eltham 10am still open with 8 places as of 10 seconds ago.

  • all booked out

  • I just booked Enfield, 6 of us going :)

I go to www.eventbrite.com.au/ and search KFC.. more location will come up. Make sure you check different Time at the same date as well. Some 11am/10am slot still available.

  • Done. thnx.

  • +4

Would make an excellent first date.

  • +3

Just a heads up. Booked last year to take my kids on the tour and they weren't allowed as everyone must be over 16 years old to do it. Couldn't see it written anywhere at time of booking, guessing it will be the same this time too.

    • It was written there this time, claimed it was OHS or some rubbish.
How do they let the 14yos work there if that's the case?

      • +1

Because the 14yo that work there have to do like 4-6 hours of OHS crap before they even start work. They aren't allowed to use knives either. Perfectly OK to operate a 190 Celsius pressurized oil fryer though and handle the oil to clean it.

A couple of kids have even managed to fall in them while cleaning above them because they used them as ladders and didn't bother to even shut the lid while on top….. Human stupidity is astounding although admittedly I got dropped something in the fryer there when I was a kid and got oil on my face that hurt like a mother, luckily didn't scar.

  • +2

30 minutes?? What is there to see that will take that long?

    • The freezer, the fryer, the bench where they prepare the burgers, the drinks fridge, the roster wall, that'll be a good 6 minutes!

      • Leaving 24 minutes to eat and digest lunch?

      • -4

Or that could be the answer to the question "against what objects has the Duty Manager rooted the 17yo bimbo checkout chick?"

  • +1

did the tour last August. the lunch was the best KFC i've ever had :D

  • Best free lunch ever !

    Well done, KFC

  • none for my local store wah.

  • April fools?

  • KFC Kids Fat Club

  • I bet they will changed all of the 2 months old oil to new one the day before open-kitchen

    • +1

When I worked at Sizzler (nearly 10 years ago) it was my job to empty the fryer. Most dangerous and disgusting job I've ever had.

In QLD, Sizzler and KFC are the same company, so I'm guessing their policies are the same.

      Each day this happened:
Chicken Fryer's oil was transferred into Fish fryer. Fish fryer oil thrown away.

      Random days this happened:
I'd spill hot oil all over the floor.

      • +1

        Hahaha,

I've burned my 4 of my finger in the left hand when I try to clean the fryer. It wasn't a pretty experience at all burned with oil
Interesting… KFC oil cycle is supposedly transferred from nugget/potato fryer to chicken fryer But it really depends on the employee / manager. Usually the manager will change it 1 hour before opening. Some of them will use it until it's really dark , some of them will just leave it for chicken fryer

I don't know man , personally i reckon it really depends on the local management for how often the oil changed (supposed to be AT LEAST once a week especially with KFC fryer heavy usage).
Some General Manager was just so tight arse that they won't change the oil until it's really really dark / there is an inspection from KFC HQ or Health Department. Even though you try to change the oil for your own /customer good, They will warn you , don't be a smart arse. Never work and eat at KFC anymore unless the chicken colour is yellow-goldish and smell new.

        PS:
I'd spill hot oil all over the floor, when I'm still at training. Have to use alot of concentrate of chemical soap + really hot water to clean it. After almost 3 years work there as a kitchen hand, your eye randomly feel burnt everyday + your blood artery feel clogged , perhaps from the steam when they fry the chicken

        • Unfortunately I'm guessing dodgy stuff like that happens everywhere :(

        • +1

          @PainToad:

true , true. Don't believe in what people claim. Surely by procedural way / training they will train you to do it based on what they think they should do. But it really depends on the individual

  • I have one problem with this.

Only sometimes is there enough chicken for it to be fresh. At other times such as during the Tuesday deals, there is emergency stock chicken which is actually frozen. This is why if you buy during the day and then at night, the chicken will look vastly different on the Tuesday.

Anyway, just a heads up to everyone about the cooking procedure.

Went today with my partner. And guess what? We got an exclusive tour at the Eltham store because the other six people who got free tickets couldn't be bothered turning up. At least have the courtesy to let KFC know well beforehand so those tickets can be reallocated to the others on the waiting list.

    • I did the tour last year, & notified the store as my daughter broke up with her boyfriend, who was coming. I offered the excess tickets which a staff member was going to give to her parents, & they never turned up.
