Nearly got put off by the front page "A free year of early access for The Ellen DeGeneres Show's biggest fans" until the site mentioned "..plus over 100 other channels free for a year"

    • +2

      Including Mythbusters.

  • +2

What advantage does this have over Youtube, etc?

    • +7

Ellen gets a bigger kickback…. Oh you meant advantage to us…. Um……

    • +1

Early access to content. That's all.

      • +4

        What content?

        • +30

          Cat videos

      • +6

Unless it's early access to game of thrones, I couldn't care less lol

Predict this platform will flunk. Whats stopping youtube bringing out similar early access model..

    • It wouldn't be considered early access then if it's already on Youtube. There's talk of them doing a paid subscription model.

      • Yep, as a partner i got an email today talking about their paid subscription model. So its happening sometime.

    • The whole reason is that YouTubers are paid very little from YouTube because their ad delivery system sucks. This service pays them more, and gets customers over with an 'early access' deal.

      • I think unless you're talking advertorial type content (God knows they take liberties with Youtube kids with this type of content) I think it's more just that ah … ads suck.

  • +3

unless they got some massive youtubers to jump to this platform what is the point? it's not really "early access" if it's content no one cares about

    • They already have, and seem to be getting more.

  • seems pretty rubbish

  • +1

How is it early access? Can't people just upload anything to YouTube any time they want as it is?

    • +3

If you are a fan of Ellen DeGeneres (sign up for this) you will get early access to some of her video releases.

    • +2

Certain channels are uploading to Vessel first (where they are given a cut of signup fees by Vessel) and holding back uploading their videos to Youtube for a period of time.

So the idea is that people that want first access to the videos / to support the creators sign up to Vessel and view the videos, and the creators get paid, and the rest just wait the time for the videos to come up on Youtube.

      • Must be the first to view the cat videos

      • +4

Wow people are dumb enough to sign up? If they didn't support this, then there would be no Vessel and they wouldn't have to wait anyway….nor pay anything.

Bloody dumb people screwing it up for the rest of us.

        • Signing up ≠ Paying for it.

I've signed up, but since I don't give a stuff about viewing Linus's videos so soon I won't be renewing the subscription.
But if you do care about the content creator and want to somehow support them (why would you support Ellen when she's already stinking rich, I wouldn't have a damn clue) then you might be inclined to pay the monthly fees for the service.

        • If you want to support the content creators (the smaller ones, not necessarily Ellen, for me I want to support the LinusTechTips channel) then it's a good way to do so. Seeing the videos a week late down't hurt you, if you didn't know that Vessel existed then you wouldn't have any idea that something was different.

        • So waiting a week means your completely screwed bros even though you weren't screwed 5 minutes agao before you were aware that some people we're watching videos before you.

        • Because it's not going to be a free ride forever, as a lot of these youtubers are businesses. So what vessel provides for them is a way to make money. If vessel doesn't pay these guys, they are going to find another way to make money, such as putting more sponsorship segments in their videos.

Alternatively, if you want some independent science Youtubers to get the kickback instead of Ellen - you can get the same deal through http://vessel.com/science

EDIT: Sorry guys - looks like that has expired and is only 1 month free now, but I got a free year through here a few weeks back.

    Thanks Ellen De Generous

  • I can honestly stand to wait a day or two to see whatever cat video or ray william douchbag video is on youtube. I dont need early access to videos online.

You're chance to get ahead of the rest and avoid being OzBargained out of these great deals: enloop, DSE, free samples, plus a heads up on Woolies and that Red Shop 1/2 price groceries like cup o noodles, chocolate blocks, Coke Cubes, Sakatas, Tuna tins etc.

Wait there's more: Sign up to the Premium Early Access, and beat the Regular Early Access members by a whole 24hrs (business hours only - that's 3 days at your desk of Early, Early Access).

  • Lots of Music streaming models coming out that propose higher quality and more revenue to artists (like kanye is struggling!)
    This is similar I guess

  • Signed up, then they said:

Support for mobile web and Android devices coming soon.

Hmm, guess I'll wait a while then.
