Out of curiosity what's the leading anti virus software these days?

    • like to know this as well - bitdefender seems good though slows down loading pages on chrome for some reason (for me on 2 separate computers).

    • I'm using Kaspersky for home and Trend Micro for work. No complaints here. Used Mcafee and Norton before and they were just resource hogs. Also using Malwarebytes.

Can't speak of McAfee as I have no recent experience but:

Norton - absolutely true if using Norton 360. If using a recent version (last two years) of Internet Security, then the blanket statement is NOT true. Both PC and Tech Authority and APC magazines PLUS my own testing and experience shows it is actually extremely frugal in resources. On some tests even THE most frugal.

APC rated it as one of the top 4 to get, PC and Tech Authority as the #1 recommended suite February or March this year (I'd have to dig up the mags once they are returned to me from loan).

I'm not a Norton advocate, I actually DO sell Trend Micro, Kapersky, McAfee, Bitdefender and a lot of others and in fact make more margin on others, but Norton Internet Security has not been a resource hog since about 2006-2008 when it was recoded from scratch.

Just credit where it's due. I don't like seeing FUD spread.

        • Spreading FUD? Calm down fan boy. I gave my opinion on a Norton product I had used in the past. Nothing more.

        • Norton is still a resource hog

    • Kaspersky has always been a leader, they do have a good track record. I find BitDefender too aggressive when it comes to block network traffic for certain applications.

  • If I used the 9 month from the previous deal and use this deal. Will I have 15 months total?

From reading the description - no. You'll get 6 months total

    • As per tightarse (OP):

You can install a fresh copy with a 6 month license, or alternatively the code can also be used to extend existing licenses. In other words, if you have anything under 6 months remaining, applying this code will increase it to 6 months total.

It's not really worded incredibly well, but the answer is no!
What should have been written is that this deal will not stack on top of previous/existing accounts. It will give you a total of 6 months only!

i was like, i have 7 months remaining, why not add another 6 months in it and applied the new code and the new remaining days was 180 days(6 months). So i looked back on my emails and applied the previous key and got back my 7 months.

    • Should have read the post first :)

Loving your work, but the way you've written…

or alternatively the code can also be used to extend existing licenses.

…could easily be read incorrectly by some!

I'd prefer it to say "This license does not stack, ie. it will replace your existing license with a 6 month license". Saying it "extends" when in many cases it does the complete opposite, is just confusing.

  • to 6 months 😊

  • this program slow that down pc much?

Last time I had it, my pc felt much slower to use…

    • I previously had macafee and now I use bitdedender and it is much quicker now

    • Mine slowed chrome and internet speeds down. Changed to kaspersky now and all is good.

      • You can disable the web extension of Bitdefender if it is slowing down yout internet browsing.

        • Oh really? I'll keep that in mind for next time.

        • If an Internet Security software was properly designed and you wouldn't have to disable the web extension. I'm currently using Webroot Internet Security Plus and it's great no problems with the web extension slowing down the web browser.

  • thanks, applied to my license that had 122 days left, now 180 :)

    • @cheapboobs …is that your nickname or a new deal.

  • do they have free trial for MAC?

  • Is it a reinstall if you have the free version?

  • I have been using this AV for 6 years now, always been good except I disable some features that will otherwise slow down web browsing.

My paid sub expired over a year ago, I just keep picking up these free subs from OzBargains.

I don't see value in paying for an AV as the free ones are perfectly fine but on the basis that BD keep offering free subs on a regular basis, you could run this AV without paying a cent and on that basis I recommend.
