  • myer website showing $1149

  • $1149 i think you mean, title needs updating.

  • price beat! nice one!

  • Hmm, Myer says it has Nvidia graphics but everywhere else says this model is Intel 5000 only… and it's 4th Gen i5… so older model…

  • I don't know much about Macs….

Would this be any good for video editing?

    • It might be adequate if it's what your budget allows… but realistically for video editing I would be going for at LEAST a 24" screen and something Quad Core rather than dual core like this…

Are you thinking of using Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premier or something else? You could get a gruntier Windows based machine for less than this, but then you would obviously miss out on some of the Mac benefits.

You'd also consider at least 16GB of RAM and an SSD for a serious video edit workstation, but that's only if you intend to video edit as part of your job / daily task.

I'd go with at least 2 monitors too for better productivity.

For the occasional cut/paste and timeline editing job this is good enough.

        "Mac benefits"

        LOL

    • It would be fine for occasional video editing.

  • It's a good price for a not so good machine. Imagine the speed of a superseded MacBook Air, but without its faster solid state storage.

Maybe better than the new MacBook (2015)…

    • Yes, lack of SSD is bad for a new machine. And upgradability of the new slim iMacs is practically zero.

  • i dont understand why they stopped 24 inch imac,

these have a very small screen by 2015 standards (or my standards, he he)

  • This iMac is equivalent to Macbook Air performance, not worth getting. But it's a good deal BTW.

No, it isn't. Apart from the 8GB RAM, it shares the same CPU/GPU of the superseded MacBook Air, but with the speed of the Air's Flash Storage.

I felt like a real traitor when I went over to Apple. I got an iMac about 6 years ago and it is still running PERFECTLY, no issues EVER.
ANY MS based PC I had before had issues within 2 years, that & the cost of virus protection (& the rest) made it false economy IMO to continue purchasing.

Also had to have a fairly good knowledge of PC maintenance to 'help' keep them running better/longer. This thing has paid itself off already when compared to all of the extra crap I would have had to purchase to keep an MS based PC running from year to year. Even when you do that they end of running sooooo slowly.

I DO NOT miss my old MS based PC's. When I heard one could get all of the MS Office Products (& more) I was sold, not to mention the AMAZING screen, certainly on the iMacs.

    • im with you mate!

after so many years of Windows bullshit i feel a bit stupid having ignored Macs for so long.

registry scanning, malware scanning, virus scanning, defragging, drivers bullshit, the confusion with millions and millions of real shitty programs, i dont miss any of that crap.

I also converted my dad first with iMac 21'5 inch, after 3 weeks he didnt want to use Windows anymore, he's 76
my mum 1 months after that with another iMac 21'5 inch, they love it, her husband is planning to buy a new iMac next computer purchase (he has his own i7 at the moment). (they are divorced)

but what can u do, high school trash talking kids have to trash something lol
