  • Anyone know if this will work with an existing US nexflix account. Am guessing not but wondered if anyone has tried.

    • +2

Yes. My Netflix account is set up on US Netflix and I've used two of these codes. Dollar value changes but it's three months of the HD/2 screen plan.

      • Cheers, might have to see if i can get my hands on 1.

      • When u used 2 codes did u get 6 months?

        • +1

Yep. It works by adding $x worth of credit to your Netflix account.

      • Hey thanks for this, so looks like it's the value of 3 months regardless of what region it's applied to… Ie it would be of no benefit signing up to netflix in a cheap region and applying this

  • Nice ;)

  • Optus ZTE F286 is the same price at Officeworks.

    • Yep bought one from there just then!

    • got the last 2 from OW Box Hill

  • +1

    Cheers OP, just got.

    From Optus Netflix FAQ Website

Can I use more than one Netflix voucher per Netflix account?
Yes! You can use multiple Optus Netflix vouchers on the same Netflix account; they do not override each other.

  • Seems to come with $3 credit after activation.. unless they somehow have my credit card details and I've been charged this amount

This should last 3 days on the $1 daily, but just don't recharge afterwards

    • There are 3 plans available, which plan you subscribed that eligible with 3 months free netflix?

      • I am sure all of the plans are eligible.

I signed up for the $1 a day plan

  • I just activated phone, on Optus account it says I have $3 credit .. Fantastic! waiting for Netflix code in email, how long it takes to get email with Netflix code?

  • Just grabbed 2, no ID needed and grabbed 4 half price Vodafone kits for my other phone to give me unlimited data on weekends for Netflix for $15 a month. Coles has been good today lol

    • Unlimited data on weekends from vodafone??? Is this on their prepaid sims? Can you link me to something with more info?

  • +1

If you are buying from Adelaide coles, look at back of the docket, there is REID Cycle voucher worth $10, no obligation to spend money, just take anything worth $10 from shop for FREE.

SO I got phone for $14.50, I got $3 Credit to my account which I can see from Optus Account, plus I got $10 REID Voucher. So I got phone and Netflix for $1.50

    • Whats A reid cycle voucher

      • Reid cycle is the cycle store, you can buy anything from this store worth $10.
This offer is only valid at 176A Pulteney Street Adelaide.
        http://www.reidcycles.com.au/

  • Similar Optus offers are also available on other optus products life wifi router with free data, etc

  • Ok Just activated phone…..Did anyone get an email to confirm the phone was registered? The phone is working, but I thought I'd get an email confirming it is activated(and more importantly indicating I entered in my email address correctly !).

    • +1

Nope no email yet.. still waiting as well.

They say it takes 14 days to get the netflix code

      • ok, Thanks.

    • I haven't received an email either, nor is it allowing me to sign up for my account with the mobile number provided. I'm confused.

      • Update - received a text with the url to claim netflix code.

        • Just curious did you have to put in any I'd when you activated? I got the initial activation email but the phone hasn't activated yet. It's been longer than 5 hrs…

        • @tomwhiteallnight: Not that I remember.

  • Grabbed 2 from Coles. I activated one, do I have to do anything to receive the Netflix code ?

    • I think they said you should receive the Netflix code during the signup process.

      • People either received the code via email or SMS. I think it takes 1-2 weeks to receive the Netflix code.

  • For those who want more info of the subscription and whatnot, read through the comments here. They may have covered your questions.

  • Feeling guilty about contributing to landfill, I was wondering why we couldn't just buy an Optus SIM and get this, but according to http://www.optus.com.au/shop/promotions/netflix-subscription… , you "get a bonus 3 month Netflix subscription when you purchase a prepaid mobile phone and activate the included SIM." So yeah, you need to buy a phone.

Bought one at Coles Broadway in Sydney, no ID requested. Activated it on the Optus website at https://www.optus.com.au/activate , without even putting the SIM in the phone or even removing it from its wrapper, or turning the phone on. Make sure to include an email address, so they can email you the Netflix code. Activated on the "my prepaid daily" plan, as "if you don't use your phone for a day on the My Prepaid Daily then you won't be charged at all", plus it was the cheapest plan, and it appears to have 6 months expiry. I probably won't do anything to use the small included credit until I've been emailed the Netflix code, so that way if I need to chase them up for it, I'm still a current Optus customer. Did not have to give credit card details to activate. Now just have to wait for the Netflix code.

  • Bought one from coles Box Hill about 2 hours ago , when activated i think it had wrong sim card, as i remember it getting activated as Mobile broadband sim, called support, they said take it back, took it back and got new phone pack and activated again. Will i now get 2 vouchers :)

    • I have to return mine for the same problem, not happy that I have to do the running around for their stuff up. Hopefully the Coles I'm going to still has the phones. Did they give you grief when you returned it?

  • Was just at Coles Robina they have them on a stand infront on the self serve checkouts, so can be purchased without interacting with any staff. I assumed however that they were kept under the service desk, like is done in some other supermarkets, so I did talk to staff. Staff there explicitly said there was no limit on how many a single person could purchase and there were no forms to fill out. I got six to keep it under $100 and get payway cash back

    • Are you collecting phones like dominoes?

      • +4

They might be the new eneloops.
        ;)

  • Bought 2 first phone activated no problem second phone only gives me mobile broadband plan options:(

  • They only have a white version at my local coles but I only found out once I tried to exchange my white one for a black one. Anyone have a black one they want to sell? We can meet up in the CBD.

  • so there are two options a phone or a mobile broadband. It's your call. Phone is 50c cheaper though :)

  • does watsapp work with the ZTE 286? Looking for the cheapest phone that'll support whatsapp +- viber

  • Ok have activated 4 of these suckers and now have a few decent spare Wall Plug USB chargers :)

Now to wait for the codes lol

    • Under the same name and address?

      • Yeah just registered them all online. Went through without issue.

    • +1

Shame they're only 700mA. 2A would have been handy.

  • i got the last one from my local coles. sold out so quickly!

  • Bought 2 from different Coles. They all claimed that it was the last one. I have activated one and will activate another tomorrow night.

The question is, what do I do with all these phones? I already have my Samsung S2 as backup of my LG G3. Almost seems a waste. What is the best way to deal with these Optus locked phones? Donations to say Salvos?

  • Only activated one sim card so far. Online activation never asked for a Drivers Licence number, Passport number or any other way to verify identity, I am pretty sure Telstra asks for it in their activation.

I was expecting a Welcome to Optus email or something, but have not received any email communication from Optus (including for the Netflix code). This has me wondering if anyone knows with certainty if the Netflix codes are sent by e-mail or by SMS? I was plaining on keeping the phones in the boxes and never turning them on. Obviously if the codes are sent by SMS will have to turn them all on.

    • Following this post.

    • same dilemma as you, can anyone confirm if the code will be sent via sms or email?

    • If they came via SMS couldn't you just put each SIM through the same phone?

  • Tried to buy 10.they only let me have 4. Going back to get some more in the arvo.

  • +5

This is a great deal but please do not throw the unwanted phone into the bin. Donate or recycle them. Just Google and you will find plenty of organisations to discard your phones.

    • If you go to your local Officeworks stores, they've got a mobile phone recycle bin that you can just drop the phones in. Usually at the front after the entrance doors.

      • +3

recycle an unused phone lol … what a world …

    • +2

Gumtree it as new. Local "small businessmen" want untraceable phones.

  • You wouldn't need to actually purchase the phone though would you if you if you had another phone to put it in, couldn't you buy a $2 pre-paid SIM? I actually just bought one and its cheap as though just occurred to me the purchase may have been unnecessary?

Never mind just saw other response addressing this and as per website

Prepaid mobile customer who activates a prepaid bundled handset (handset + included SIM) or a prepaid bundled mobile broadband device (device + included SIM)

…with us between 24 March and 5 July 2015, you can get a Netflix subscription voucher!

  • Happy to take a phone if someone doesn't want one, need a spare as i'm known for breaking phones easily :( (also not interested in Netflix.)

Can pay postage if anyone is kind enough to donate ;)

  • Have any body received any voucher yet since last 3 Days. As Details and actions are total strange. No IDs required while activation and so far no Voucher or email from Optus.

    • try putting the sim card in if it isn't. I got both my codes via SMS

      • What was the turn around time from activation for the code to come through ?

      • How long did that take?

      • <48 hours for me

  • I got an email saying my service is being activated 5 hours ago and it still isn't activated. Does it normally take a long time?

    • +1

Nope usually they say it takes 10 minutes to 4 hours. You better be calling them.

  • +2

I just got my Netflix voucher via sms. I purchased and activated the phone yesterday. 28hrs for voucher to arrive. I did not opt in for the offers by email so maybe that is why i got it by sms. I am a US netflix subscriber and it credited my netflix account with $26.97 USD.

    • did you activate + recharge with a min amount or just activate and left it with the $3 credit?

      • I just activated and left it with the $3 credit. I chose the $1 day plan. I did ring the phone from my normal mobile to check it was connected. Have not made a call or text from the prepaid phone.

  • Just just got one phone and tried to activate it keep getting

    ACTIVATE PREPAID SIM

    [[Oops…]]

[[There is an error with your activation request.]]

ERROR: Order details missing details preventing any progression. If issue can be rectified and retry. PPACT-ORDER-009

Tired multiple times but keep getting this error, does sim card have to be in the phone?

    • I got the same error with the SIM in the phone.

    • I got the same but still got an email saying it was being activated. So I called them and was told that even though it said it was, it's not.
So they activated it over the phone.

I bought a few phones but only one of them got a message to say it was activated, however they all seem to work… No Netflix message yet either, this is 12 hours later :(

  • Anyone bought more than one, can you use the same ID to register the phone and get 6 months?

    • I received 2 Netflix vouchers after activating 2 Optus sim cards under the same name.

I applied both to my Netflix account, but still not sure if it all adds up to 6 months or not.

      • Surely the mathematics involved in determining this are quite simple?

  • Trying to activate mine and I got this error, even though I got an email saying it was in progress:

    ACTIVATE PREPAID SIM
    [[OOPS…]]

[[There is an error with your activation request.]]

ERROR: Order details missing details preventing any progression. If issue can be rectified and retry. PPACT-ORDER-009

  • +1

Is anyone getting error page after clicking activation?

OK I see I'm not the only one.

    • +1

On the same page as the error there was a yellow "Start New Activation" button - so I decided to do the whole thing again - I entered the same SIM number and was assigned a different phone number, and finally got the same error again.

Now I have two "Your Optus Prepaid service activation is in progress" emails - both mention that the "Id Verified" is "Drivers License" - but I wasn't even asked to type that in!

      • +1

Same here. I got 4 emails because I tried 4 times. Maybe I'll get 4 codes?

        • tried 10 times and got 10 email with different number lol,
Did anyone got their phone activated even they got error?
It has been about 5hrs and still no sms for activation.

  • Grabbed 4 this arvo. Hopefully that's a year of Netflix. The first 3 things I watched on it today were great.

    • +1

Let us know if you manage to get it activated - a few us are having issues (see above).

      • Just finished activation on all 4 without a hitch.
Hope I don't have to open all the phones and fire them up to get the codes.

There's not been any instant emails though about the activations.

    • Just a heads up, the credit expires on Sep 30 according to the website.

      • So all codes need to be entered before then ?

        • -3

No, all the credit goes away after sep 30.

        • @tomwhiteallnight: It says codes expire then. Perhaps redeemed credit may not.
"All the voucher codes will expire at midday on September 30, 2015."

Otherwise even people who bought just 2 phones won't got 6 months.

Surprised nothing's been mentioned in the OP or the comments til now.

        • I am not too sure about that.
"The offer's in action from March 24, 2015. And we'll be calling 'cut!' on July 5, 2015."
So the last day you can activate an Optus service and qualify for this offer is July 5.
"Make sure you claim your voucher for a code within 14 days, or they'll no longer be available. All the voucher codes will expire at midday on September 30, 2015."
To me that reads that once Optus issues a code it must be redeemed on Netflix within 2 weeks of being issued and also must be redeemed by midday on September 30 (AEST i presume?); whichever come sooner? Between July 5 and September 30 seems Optus is giving themselves a lot of leeway to take their time
All this comes from the T&Cs on - http://www.optus.com.au/shop/promotions/netflix-subscription…

I would think once the credit is added to Netflix it will just sit there until it is spent. From what others have said on here it sounds like the Optus code is actually a repackaged $36 Netflix gift card.

On the Netflix Help page - "Netflix Gift Cards in Australia" https://help.netflix.com/article/en/node/24928?ba=GSButtonCl…
          It states:

"Can I use more than one gift card on my account?
Yes - you can buy more than one gift card. You can enter the gift cards at www.netflix.com/gift and your balance will increase with each gift card you add. Check your Billing Details page to see your available balance."

          "Do Netflix gift cards expire?
No. Netflix gift cards do not expire and that is printed on the back of each card."

Again I see nothing to suggest that once the Credit is added to a Netflix account it will expire prematurely.

(FYI iTunes gift cards work in a similar way, once the card is purchased from a store it has to be added to an iTunes account within 2 years (i think), but once the credit is on an iTunes account it stays there until it is spent.

        • @scottb721: "The offer's in action from March 24, 2015. And we'll be calling 'cut!' on July 5, 2015. Make sure you claim your voucher for a code within 14 days, or they'll no longer be available." this means the latest you can claim the credit is july 19th. Therefore putting in the sep 30 date would be pointless. That's how I understand it, but it definitely isn't worded very well. Also i called Optus and that was the answer I was provided with.

    • I've opened one phone and turned it on to see if the code gets sent to it.

      • I received mine via SMS.

  • Coles in West Ryde, NSW has 7 of these phones left on the shelf, mixture of whites and blacks. Was there around 9am.

  • I also attempted to activate online, but kept getting the same error as others (4 times for me). I end up doing on over the phone, and now waiting for the sms about netflix. I did the activiation around 9am this morning….I will update the post once I get the sms.

    • Can taken up to 14 days. I missed that part.

  • so some people got a netflix code the next day some didn't, I activated my phone and wireless broadband on April 16 but I don't have any code yet.

    • ok, I just checked the broadband modem email message and the voucher was there. I was able to activate it. The Phone though does not have the voucher and still waiting for it.
