VPS - K9VPS: 256MB for $10/Year, 3072MB for $7/Month and More in Los Angeles (QuadraNet)

60

They were formerly known as TragicServers. Roilan is a pretty good bloke and, from the last deal, my server was set up straight away and without issue. Since then it's been down once for a couple hours, but that's it. Rock stable otherwise.

Here's the VPS benchmark btw from last time https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/172848#comment-2410534

  • Looks like I'll have to switch after my DigitalOcean credit runs out.

  • Is Windows OS possible?

    • This is a Linux-only offer.

  • Thanks for the post :D

If anyone has any questions, feel free to let me know.

    • Is this the usual price? I don't need a server for a while yet. Thanks!

      • Nope, these are special offerings. I recommend picking one up before it's sold out.

        • Will you do OVZ – 2048MB for $38/year like last time LEB38 coupon? Also, is this recurring discount?

I'm not sure what OS to pick, is this something we can change at later stage? What's involved? Sorry I'm noobs at VPS

        • @technogear:

We're just sticking with the 1024MB yearly this time. Yes, it's recurring.

You can always reinstall your OS in the future.

        • @Roilan: Awww C'mon, I thumbs up and bite if you do it :)

        • @technogear:

          Haha.

  • What do people actually use these for?

Plenty of uses for a VPS; they're basically a miniature server on the internet. Many people use them to host websites/web apps, programming, file storage, torrents etc. It's probably important to read through the Terms of Service to understand what each provider allows.

The uses I've found particularly nice: You can roll your own VPN with openswan or openvpn, for yourself or for friends as well. Useful when travelling (can connect to your other computers, or if you are using public wifi). I needed it because most ports are blocked at my workplace, which makes it difficult to get work done without having to submit a ticket and waiting 3 weeks or so. Added bonus if your server is geolocated in the US is that you can access US based sites (hulu etc). I also have an IRC bouncer, which is connected all the time, and allows me to check in periodically to see all the things I've missed.

There are a few other options for those on a budget, including NAT VPNs, which don't provide you with a whole IPV4 IP (just a few ports). They usually go for between $1-3 a year. Depending on your requirements, you may find that that is sufficient.

    • The $10 VPS is probably a good candidate for a VPN. Lots of bandwidth on a 1Gbps (shared) port in LA (closest US location).

  • I reckon people would be interested more in KVM/XEN VPS in Australia.

  • fantastic deal! does the bandwidth resets every month? or its just annually?

    • It resets monthly.

  • Expired? I can't get the prices listed in the deal.

    • They're not. The price updates at checkout.

      • thanks mate, ordered the "OVZ – 1024MB". Now I just have to figure out how to use it :=)

Also, you might want to add that the price is in $US.

  • Expired?
I am getting $30 USD but not $10.

    • It's not expired. Make sure you enter the discount code at checkout.

      • Looks expired to me

        • We ran out of stock for this promo shortly after I made that post. Submit a ticket and I'll honor this for you. Make sure you reference this post.

        • @Roilan:

          Thank you.
