Calm down. It's a funny ad for Windows Phone.
So what if it's old? There's no technical information in it.

        • got your point too eager to post I guess

  • Yeah iPhones are stupid.

    -Sent from my iPhone.

  • How limiting is the 512mb ram ?
Just need a phone to use as a bicycle computer / backup mobile.

    • on the operating system none
just some apps are not available for 512 ram

    • +3

      This model has 1GB RAM.

      • Thanks .. Just read the specs again.. Assumed most cheap windows came with 512mb.

        • At this price point most phones have 1gb. Wp run fast and smooth even with 512mb.

    • I use Caledos Runner for cycling, and it links into RunKeeper. Its not too bad - now that I've switched back to iOS, and started using RunKeeper again, Caledos was actually quite good.

  • Is this duel sim?

    • NO not dual sim. You can get the lumia 535 which is dual sim which is about $150ish online.
Not as good specs wise, slightly bigger screen though.

I bought this in December for $246 with $100 coles gift card. Effectively $146 since I like most Australians buy groceries and live near a Coles. I get that this offer is no longer available, but i am surprised at all the positives this deal has recieved, since this deal is materially more expensive and four months (quite a long time in smartphone tech) has passed.

That aside, it is a great phone and a step up from my previous mobile, Galaxy s3

    • +5

It's got the votes because despite costing more the deal is still a good one, and the best available at the moment… In fact as far as I know it's the best since that Coles card deal.

There are few, if any, Australia stock mobiles using any OS not just Windows of this quality for this price.

      • +1

Yeah it's a great all round phone. Usually in this price range you are compromising in one area or another.

        • It is, but you are compromising on the quality and number of apps in the windows store.

    • +1

The $100 Coles gift card could've been spent on groceries, so it's not a free $100 discount.

      • I think you could safely say Coles/Woolies gift cards are as close to 1:1 value-wise as you can get for a gift card. You're bound to find a use for it within its validity period.

Unlike, say for example, a Bunnings Warehouse gift card. You would really need to put in a little bit of effort to use it.

  • A good deal for the phone…

Just a little heads up, if you use Android and your contacts are stored in your Google Account, using any sort of custom labels with phone numbers (e.g. for some of my contacts I have labels like "Mobile Optus", "Mobile Overseas" and so on) will mess them up.

Windows phone only works with 8 pre-defined labels (Home x2, Mobile x2, Work x2 and Other x2). Using custom labels makes those phone numbers go into "additional notes" instead.

Compared to iOS and Google(Android), I found this infuriating at times…it required me to redo a substantial portion of my phonebook.

  • I would love to jump on the Windows Phone lifestyle but my investment in the Google eco system holding me back.

Not that Outlook or One Drive are inferior (personally i still much prefer the way I have setup Gmail as well as the "Category Tabs" up top).

And MetroMail while an interesting alternative is just not as optimised nor pleasant to use as the stock Gmail app on Android. Other things like Calendar are fine, and Cortana as an assistant is by far more useful I would say.

All in all there are some things are love and some things that are limitations. But those things holding me back are probs more integral than the things I like.

  • Looks like sold out online

  • Tried Windows phone and really wanted to like it, but the lack of key apps that I use just made it unusable for me.

I have recently gone through the 3 operating systems: iOS on iP6, Android on Galaxy S5 and WP on Lumia 735.

    My order is:
    1. iP6 < now current phone.
    2. 735
    3. Galaxy

We have a bit of everything in our household:
    Apple: ATV3, iPad Gen1, 24" iMAc, 27" iMac
    MS: SP3 i7, Lumia 2520, WinServ08 on HP Microserver
    Android: Nexus 7 3G
What I'm saying is, I don't care what system i use.

So, first - i got rid of the galaxy, as I just don't like Samsung's interface. Love Android on my nexus, hate android on the galaxy. Just didn't like it, so got rid of the phone.

between the iP6 and 735 its been pretty hard. I miss the long battery life, the tiles, the camera was ok to use, the screen is pretty, the price was great.
BUT… and here's a big but from me: i needed my apps. I thought i could get away from Apple apps, and have used Win8.1RT and Win8.1 so I was hoping it would integrate like the Apple EcoSystem… it doesn't.

The apps out there were woeful - Spotify was useless, none of the accounting software providers supported WP (I show clients products that we re-sell like Xero, SageOne, MYOB etc.) Kinda hard when your phone doesn't support them (and I use SageOne for my personal business). The browser was so-so, but the music player was annoying (the next track buttons disappearing while in lock screen). The biggest gripe: MS Outlook on iOS was better than the mail apps that come with WP. I love the new Outlook on iOS, and wish I could replicate it on my Win8.1 work laptop.

I tried, for 6 weeks, living with the 735 while my iPhone slept… but regretfully the lack of apps i needed and a few usability issues meant that on the weekend i went back to iPhone (which don't get me wrong, it has its faults). I really really wish MS get their shit together and make WP awesome - hell, pay developers to make apps, because the base is really good and ahead of iOS/Android.

    • I am not sure about usability, but Sageone does have WP version

  • Called the Five Dock store today and they're out of stock there. Also no stock in stores across Sydney.

Have owned the 530 (thanks woolies!), the 630 (thanks HN! bought two, sold one and a hundred cashback meant it was free!) and now the 735…. I am a WP convert. No fuss, quick, excellent battery life and Mix Radio is the SHIZ! SHIZ I TELL YA!

Only run Android on my Nexus tablet for books and random stuff. iPhone supplied by work. But my favourite? Windows Phone hands down.

PS- Bought the last one from East Perth. Sorry.

  • +2

For people in Sydney, try Officeworks at Glebe. They had a bunch in stock when I called on Sunday. Bought mine from my local store: it was the last one they had there, and it seems like many stores are sold out.

On another note, this phone is great. I've found almost every app I used to use on my old Android phone (which was buggy as hell by the way — thanks Huawei!). Windows Phone 8 is really polished and easy to use. So far, I'm glad I made the switch, and especially at this price! Once universal apps hits for Windows Phone 10, I doubt I'll be able to go back.

    • got the last one at my officeworks too! I'm excited to start developing on it.

  • returned my lumia 830 I bought last week and got this instead. Lumia 830 screen started lifting at the top right corner. Googled it and apparently it's widespread with the 830s and 930s. I find this one is nicer to hold because it's not as big and square. The amoled is better and I don't keep accidentally pressing the buttons on the edge.

  • From a dumbphone user:
I really only want to get a smartphone to keep tabs on my stocks/shares^. Do any OZB'ers here use their Windows phone for share-trading ie. how do you go about it? I've looked and looked, but it seems the Big Two (Etrade and Commsec) only support Android and iOS. :-(

^Etrade and Commsec both have/had a paid 'SMS alert' system but Commsec discontinued theirs in March; so strike one for my dumbphone.

PS. I'm pretty sure it will be suggested to just access the sites from the browser, but that would defeat the purpose of being alerted on share transactions.
