NetComm NP207 Powerline Adapters [Pair] Reduced from $99 to $59.83 at Officeworks

110

These are a 200Mbps pair of adapters with AC pass-through and "simple connect" plug and play, although there is provision for manual configuration for Windows users.:

The box contains 2 adapters, 2 1.5 Meter Cat 5e 24AWG 4 pair cables, warranty card and Quick-start guide.

I'd been looking at getting a pair of EOP devices for a while - MSY have the Edimax and D-link for ~ $10 under this point, but they are not AC pass-through, and IMHO Netcomm trumps D-link and Edimax [tho maybe unfairly] triggers shivers up my spine. YMMV.

only 200mps, this one is better https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/190494

I addressed that - Relying on my own experience and what I see as the concensus on the Whirlpool forums,I am happy to pay the premium for Netcomm over TP-link.

I went from netcomm 200mps to edimax 600mps speed is closer to Double than 3 times. I can now do fullhd without transcoding…

They can be finicky beasts - It took only 10 seconds to download 5 Meg on my test, but I'm in a fairly new house and on the same circuit. I'm more interested in getting network in my metal shed than anything :-)

Don't forget, if you've got foxtel you might be able to get a pair for free. Call them up and try it on. TV is moving etc and you want to use the on-demand

It's even better - they used to give out this one, but there was a post in the past couple of days showing Foxtel now hand out a newer [500Mbps] one than this :-)

That they use Netcomm was the final brand decider -they don't want their techs being called out for failures, and these are units grandma can easily add too.

  • 200Mbps and 500Mbps mean nothing if the port on the devices can only do 100Mbps.
    Buyer Beware.

    • True. I had these and found them quite pointless.

    • Then again, this would only really apply for the 500 Mbps units - for the reason why I can but refer you to this clearly unbiased note by TP :-/:

I doubt you'll find any with a Gigabyte ethernet anywhere near this price point this year at least.

    • that's totally wrong, why would people give false info even don't what is this number mean?

  • I run 4 x Netcomm NP204's and they work just as well as the ethernet cables I had running all over the place before. +1 from me.

  • Anyone know if ANY of these will work in a house with different circuits/phases? Have not had much luck with the set I bought. Some powerpoints link while others won't.

  • Newer homeplug av2 are finally coming out so the prices of these older / lower end ones would drop. I wouldn't recommend netcomm, had been using them since 33.6k modem days, I got their top end adsl modem relatively recently (nf3-adv) and support was atrocious.

TP-LINK TL-PA411KIT AV500 500mbps Power Line Adapter Kit $49.99 at ALDI this week .. top reviews!!!

    • Nice - but Aldi is only in 2 states :-(

      • .. which state R U in??

        • The one with Adelaide, like on the profile :-p

  • how has your experience been with these so far OP?

    • I've only just got it lol - but it was quick and simple to set up. I haven't had time to boot up a windows box to check out the manual configuration or tried it across a circuit breaker, but being one of the AV2 Atheros chipset jobbies, I think their caveat against this may be a bit of ar*se covering on Netcomm's side. On the same loop I seem to be getting reasonable speed compared with wi-fi [ 5 meg across in 10 seconds]. It was fine streaming 720p but I haven't tried a FHD stream yet - the consensus seems to be that it should manage as long as you aren't expecting FF or time shift to be very responsive. I'll try my main intended use [ accessing manuals and pages on the Net in the shed] a bit later today :-)

Better speed in the shed - I'm just pulling down Internet speedtests atm, and get better results on the shed circuit - which is on a different breaker :-) - 6 meg pulled down of a 4.90 MBps ADSL link at a 661KB/sec Dl speed. Works for me. I don't have a media drive on my net ATM as I've been using the BigW Seagate wi-fi drive and sneaker-netting them.
