Toshiba Laptop Intel Dual Core 2.16ghz, 3GB Ram, 400 Gb HDD, ONLY $597 -Exclusive to MLN-

425

Its me again, I got the new MLN catalogue today that comes out tommorrow, and I couldn't beleive what I saw,
Its a Toshiba notebook computer,
full sized 15.4" screen,
3GB ram,
400 gb hard drive,
wireless, webcam,
DVD-RW combo drive ,
Windows XP-pro, Vista business or Windows 7 business license included (you have to pay for the discs from Microsfot/Toshiba I think its around $25, but so what)

I remeber this machine for around $999 a few weeks back, then it dropped and now its $597. This is one of the best deals I have ever seen,
I will be picking up 30 units for work as we need xp-pro and windows 7 business licensed machines, which usually cost $70-90 more than home premium, and normally at this price you can only get a Celeron Dual core, which is rubbish. The hard drive will also usually only be around 160-250gb. So that makes this machine a steal.
I just thought I would let you bargain hunters all know, since I think this is the best deal of 2009, and as their previous deals have shown, I dont think stock will last long at all with this offer either.

  • Great find!!

    • Good Price + $29 Shipping to Sydney (I believe redtiger need read postage guide

but -exclusive to MLN- … (I doubt about it… where to get this information?)

      • Im not going to pay any postage, sorry guys, if your in Melbourne you can go to anyone of their 4 stores, MLN is not just online.
And yes it is exclusive as this model is a Toshiba exclusive built by Toshiba for MLN. This is what MLN told me anyway.

  • wish my work would buy me a laptop ..

nice find by the way !!

i was going past a place i use to work and yeah i saw the Essendon MLN and im like .. so thats where it is. Nice and handy which is good

    • +7

If you took the time to actually read some of my deal postings you would see where I work, and what I do.
Once again I dont work for MLN, I work near there and I am an IT administrator, if you think I should not let you know about the good deals I find, I am happy to keep them to myself. I just thought others may appreciate it as so many "so called bargains" are posted all the time.
Anyway, why does this deal upset you so much? I dont get it? Plus why would it matter if my postings were only from here? maybe its because these are the only good deals worth mentioning according to me. This is my job to find hardware so most of my time is speant doing this anyway.
If you dont think its a good deal, just dont buy it. Im sure others will.

        • +4

It's not necessary to -ve vote even you have this question.

the vote is designed for the deal not for the store or person.

      • +4

Nice find. It seems YesPleaseThankYou has a habit of negging a lot of peoples postings but not actually posting any deals himself.

  • Best deal of 2009 lol then lets hope you get lcd keyring or something :)

seems like a good deal although if your picking up 30 i hope there is some left for others

    • lol
yeah Ill probably only get a T-shirt or something out of them,
There should be a few hundred, usually this type of quantity is not a problem for them.

  • Dual Core Processor? what is the Processor code?

    • sorry no idea, i should check, but as long as its not a celeron dual core, the analysts will be happy.

      • +3

actually celeron dual core isnt that bad - it only cops flak because of people who dont know squat think its bad because of the price. That and the system is usually only given the LOWEST amount of ram and newbs use it who load it up with heaps of spyware etc.

        http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+T1600+%…

very similar speeds to t2400 t5300.

the newer t3000 celeron cpu does matches the t4200 cpu series

        http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Celeron+Dual-…

        • +1

You're right, new Celeron CPUs are based on the Core 2 Duo architecture (as with Pentium processors) so they're the same chip with a lower FSB and less cache. For most people this is fine. Still has the excellent clock scaling and low power consumption of the C2Ds themselves.

  • -1

Anyone know what the actual model number for this unit is? Had a quick look on MLN but could not find a reference to one.

  • +3

It seems very good deal indeed.
Isn't it a far more better deal than the Dell $100 discount? A better computer, trustworthy brand, $300 cheaper.

    • +1

Thats what I think, Its obviously much better than anything I have seen.

  • +4

Call me mad but I cant justify buying a laptop without knowing at least the model no. and CPU model…

    • +1

huh? why would you neg my comment elguapo?
Wouldn't you want to know these facts before buying a laptop?

      • hey, how to read the vote list on the comment? :)

        • +1

There is a little link underneath the comment that says "votes" :)
One of the nice little features Scotty added not so long ago

    • Well we know it's a Pentium dual-core and since it's a 2.16 I'd be inclined to say T3400.

  • +4

After a little bit of investigation I think it is a Toshiba Satellite L300 with a T3400…
If so it sounds pretty good to me
But they really need to advertise these things on their website

    • -1

It makes no difference to me what the part number is or what the model number is, all that really matters is what is in it, but if its really important to you guys, i will try to post it for you guys here tommorrow after i have the box in my hand :)

      • +1

From the specs it looks like its a PSLB8A-0WT05U which has been "custom built" for MLN by adding an extra 2 gb of ram… lol
Nice find though!! According to price spy MLN was selling this for $797 earlier this month

        • Could be, dont know,
if they say exclusive it doesnt mean by upgrading the ram, it will be becuase they ordered this model for Aus.
I dont see any other Australian store selling this model,
so yes it is exclusive to MLN, I dont think they are talking about the Ram that would be stupid.
Yes i think it was around that price, and before that around $1000. its come down a lot.
Price spy delivered these specs for that part number, so i think thats the part number.
          http://www.pricespy.com.au/search.php?q=PSLB8A-0WT05U

          • +1

            @redtiger: $1232.00 wow…
            +ve from me!!!

            • @rle02: yeah, ridiculous, but the specs seem to be the same, so i think you have found the part number, well done mate, pretty good effort.
So what would this company buy it off MLN and sell it online or what?

            • @rle02: I believe it's 2-3 years old price.

this "exclusive" model is sellng at NZ$850+GST ~ AU$650+GST
              http://www.pbtech.co.nz/index.php?item=NBKTOS9073&PHPSESSID=…

it may has chance to be imported from NZ, anyway, the warranty term is
"1 year limited international parts and labour, Australia and New Zealand warranty includes complimentary courier pick-up and return service" based on MLN

              • @danilochan: yeah actually it would convert to around $850 AUD including GST and The Ram for Australia.
So I think NZ would be buying from here more likely, I dont see why they would buy from NZ, and it makes no economic sense to do so either, it would come from here.
Still pretty exclusive for Australia anyway.
its not 2-3 years old, more like 2-3 months old. That chasis was not even around before 2009. I have all the previous chasis, plus who would import from NZ anyway
All toshiba notebooks for Australia carry a NZ warranty anyway so that doesnt mean anything either.

                • @redtiger: Topbuy I think it was, were selling Toshiba notebooks direct from overseas. Could have been a similar unit.

If someone wants to dump stock I'm sure there are always interested parties.

As far as I recall Toshiba notebooks have a global warranty anyway, so it's not much of a concern.

        • I can't imagine you can use "killer" as keyword to find out the deal, I believe it's nothing can be hidden from your online searching.

          • @danilochan: hahahaha… was wondering if anyone would pick that up

            • @rle02: haha, now i get it. I was a bit slow.

  • +2

Great Deal! but if it has a T3400 processor it is a Pentium Dual Core, not a Core 2 Duo or even a Core Duo.

A good comparison to the T3400 (2.16GHz) Pentium Dual core is the T6500 (2.1GHz) Core 2 Duo

                           T3400 T6500

    FSB 667 MHz
    vs 800 MHz
Cache: 1 MB L2 Cache vs
    2 MB L2 Cache
    Lithography: 65 nm vs
    45 nm
    Die Size: 143 mm2 vs
    107 mm2
    Transistors: 291 million vs
    410 million
    Halogen free: No vs
    Yes

I know some of you might say, who cares, however there is a performance difference and the deal does say 'core duo' in the title. Just wanted to clear up any confusion for people interested in buying it for the 'core duo' tag.

    • Oh… it yes it says core duo in the specs
That would make it a T2600 I think

  • -2

Does it have HDMI or DVI out?

  • It's not a Core 2 Duo !!!

    OP pls amend your post.

Not such a great special for a dual core 15" these days.

    • +2

who said it was a core2duo? no1 said so.

      • Read the title of this page Lexsus…

    • ???

  • +1

How confusing is the actual add??

First off it says "Need to do lots at once? You’re in luck. With an Intel® dual–core processor"

Then you scroll down a bit in the specs and you get this
Processor: Intel Pentium Core Duo 2.16GHz

So what is it, Dual Core, Core Duo or Core 2 Duo??

    • Official name of the CPU is "Intel Pentium Dual-Core Mobile Processor T3400". It's a Pentium, one step down from Core 2 Duo.

  • +1

Processor: Intel Pentium Core Duo 2.16GHz
It a Core Duo, the 2 from the 2.16Ghz maybe causing confusion?

  • +2

This deal is covered with too much OP enthusiasm and product confusion. Better luck next time.

    • Agree. Huge wall of text makes it hard to read. Badly written description.

      • +1

Well I dont sell computers, nor do i run a business, I was just typing some stuff to help some people who I though may appreciated a good offering.

  • -2

    Negative for MLN.

  • Yeah, negative for block of text. The great deal is the key in all this, just click the image if your all tl;dr …

  • +1

Its obviously exclusive to them because its clearance stock, if you google the model plenty of Aus online store "Had it" but no one has stock and all of them list it as a core 2 Duo So I doubt MLN are trying to mislead anyone. In my opinion its still a bargain (Toshiba + Non Celeron CPU + 400Gb HDD and 3Gb = bargain). Why all the negative votes?

    • -1

Why do people seem to take negative votes personally.

You don't set the rules on how people can vote.

    • No
its exclusive to them, beucase they are the only ones who have ever only had stock in Australia.
I think peopel just love throwing mud at something thats good so they can feel good about themselves.
Give all the Negs you want.

  • +2

    FYI
CPU benchmark for the T3400 2.16Ghz
    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Pentium…
Obviously older tech but does beat a few of the core2's running at 2G
and almost twice the speed of the Intel Atom 1.6 330
Good for a laptop at that pricepoint

  • Guys,
I never said it was a Core 2 duo, neither did MLN,
Its not a Celeron dual core its better, and its not as good as Core 2 Duo.
I picked up my 30 units for work, the product number is correct its PSLB8A-0WT05U
its a Core Duo T3400, where did I say it was a Core 2 Duo?
Why would you give me a negative for telling you about a ripper deal? Go buy the DEll machine for $800 then if you think thats so crazy, or wait for some other dodgy onliner to sell you something from Hong Kong.
The box has Toshiba Australia stickers on it, with the courier label that proof enough for me on 30 boxes.
So its not a dodgy import either, if your looking for something fishy its not here, I have 30 units to prove it.
If you think you can find a better deal somewhere not with Vista basic or win 7 home premium either and not in some dodgy brand, or a dodgy import Im talking about XP-pro, Vista Business, and Windows 7 business a Core duo processor with 3gb ram and 400gb,
just post the link and I will stay quiet I promise.

    • -6

You seem to be taking this very, very personally.

People will vote how they feel, for all sorts of reasons.

      Your reaction seems very strange.

      • +1

No worries mate, as I said vote as you please,
Im only interested in the truth, I just cant stand people making up stories and false statements. This is how the US ended up in Iraq.

        P.S
I think your reactions are very strange to good offerings.

        • It is good lap top for students and basic use.A good bargain.
people just vote negative for silly reasons.but it is their choice. Democracy, Freedom of speech

    • +1

Don't get so up tight mate. Thanks for the post.

    • Thanks for the post!

By the way, it's a Pentium Dual-Core T3400, not Core Duo. Core Duo is much older technology and hasn't been manufactured for probably close to 3 years. Not to confuse with Core 2 Duo.

That may be where the confusion is for some people redtiger. Not worth a neg vote though.

      • Ok Guys
I changed the add title from
        Core Duo
        to
        Dual Core
I didnt realise Core Duo was the older processor and that this processor is actually better.
I also never said it was a Core 2 Duo processor.
        Thanks for educating me.

    • Once again mate, it is not a "Core Duo T3400", it is a Pentium Dual-Core T3400. Even after all of the negative comments you continue to perpetuate confusion. You did your part by posting the deal, now let everyone else sort out the details and decide if it's worthwhile.

      • -1

To be fair on the OP, the original MLN product specs actually stated something to the effect of "Core Duo 2.16ghz". It was only recently that MLN have updated the product details with the proper name and model number.

        • -2

Why do you people take these comments personally?

Don't we comment on the deal, the brand, the product and on alternate offers?

I mean, wow, it's like a comment is chopping off someone's finger.

  • OP might want to amend the title, dual core and core 2 duo is a whole world of difference in performance.

    • and heat!

  • Quite a good deal. Picked up 1 for my girlfriend.
Will also get tax refund when traveling overseas next month.
    Thank you heaps, redtiger.
Only noticed that mouse is not included.

    • -3

Be sure to read the TRS rules so make sure you get the refund. They can be quite picky on the way out.

Remember, you have to declare the item on the way back in.

      • How can you declare it if you are taking it as a gift?
Or worse if you lose it?

        • -3

Well, if you don't re-import it (bring it back with you) then there is nothing to declare.

They ask you to declare it as you may be asked refund a small portion of the GST which was refunded to you on the way out.

Out of 3 times, I've declared every time, but only once was asked to pay back a small amount of GST (on what were now used goods). Customs were quite good about it all — but I consider myself to be quite an approachable and friendly person.

It's important that you have a valid Tax Invoice. See the ATO website as to what is a valid tax invoice.

And to the fool, who -1 my comment above, get a life. It was good advice.

  • We have never declared on the way back in and never been told that we have to.

    • -2

It's a question on your passenger arrival card.

Read it carefully and you'll see.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Anyway, we all know in those circumstances that it's best to decare if you're unsure.

      • -1

        What's the question?
Update…I just had a look at the TRS website and found this, which probably explains why I have never had to declare, as I have never exceeded the concession.

Bringing the goods back into Australia
If the goods are to be brought back into Australia, please be aware that they may be subject to GST. Normal passenger concessions apply and include any items for which a TRS claim has been approved (excluding most personal items such as new clothing, footwear and articles for personal hygiene and grooming). If the value of those goods together with overseas purchases exceeds the passenger concession, the goods must be declared to Customs on your return to Australia. Penalties apply to undeclared taxable goods.

If in doubt you should declare the goods to Customs on your return.

More information is contained in the brochure 'Know Before You Go' which is available from Customs.

        • -3

Yah, but the question on the arrival card is worded differently and infers that you should declare it:

"Goods obtained overseas or purchased duty and/or tax free in Australia with a combined total price of more than AUD$400, including gifts?"

See the actual card here: http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:oVdas2qIwJEJ:www.e…

          • @YesPleaseThankYou: Wrong my friend, please verify your information before posting such jibba jabba.

The current card specifies AUD$900, as specified at:
            http://www.customs.gov.au/webdata/resources/files/compliance…

And yes I've confirmed it numerous times during my travels over the past couple of years.

Enjoy your TRS refund kids! ;)

            • -1

@pro: If that is corect thanks, kind of! Your info is helpful but why on earth did you neg my comment? Did you misread it or have trouble understanding it?

              • @chloden: Sorry mate :( accident. Unfortunately I can't undo the vote.

  • +1

This is not a "Core Duo" I think the poster is confused and doesn't actually realise that the Pentium Dual Core and Core Duo are not the same.

So to end confusion - The CPU is a Pentium Dual Core T3400.

The Core Duo is a different kind of CPU that hasn't been around for yonks.

The Core 2 Duo is yet another kind of CPU.

    • Yes
I made the change, the processor is actually better than what i put in the title.

  • +1

A good deal but think I'll go for a Core 2 duo for a little bit more:

    http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i…

    • -2

I have purchased 3 laptops from this mob's shop in Sydney.

I can say that they are top notch for product knowledge and after-sales service!

Small store, with laptops stacked sky high, and full of customers.

      Highly recommended.

  • I don't know too much about computers, could I run Half Life 2 on this?

  • I'm not sure about Half Life 2 but the Intel GL40 video accelerator is not that good a card. You might want to see if you can get an upgrade to a nvidea or something like that for extra cost.

  • You cant really play games on this, you will need dedicated graphics,
anything with 256 + will run half life, but 512 will be ideal.

  • This deal is is now surpassed:
