Not point for point exchange for Velocity:

Redeem multiples of 2,250 Reward Points for 1,000 Velocity Frequent Flyer Points. Allow up to 5 business days for Velocity Points to be allocated to your Account. Account Holder must be a member of the Velocity Program. Conditions apply.

    https://anzrewards.com/public/redeem_ff_product.aspx?id=1654…

    http://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/Info/ANZRewards…

2250 ANZ Reward points = 1000 Velocity points.

50,000 ANZ points would be ~22222 Velocity points.

Oops read it wrong. Updated post. Still good for other stuff in the store. Thanks for the neg though :)

  • +1

    $200 vouchers is good enough.

  • +6

Same for Frequent Flyer cards too. No annual fee for first year and 50000 Qantas point after $3000 within 3 months.
    http://www.anz.com/personal/credit-cards/black/anz-frequentf…

  • +1

Don't understand your neg, because you can get ANZ Rewards points or 50,000 QFF points which is much better.

    • 50,000 QFF points which is much better

Are you sure? What is the rough equivalent in dollars of 50k QFF and 50k ANZ points?

      • +2

well, FF points usually sell for 1point/$0.01, so 50000QFF=$500 on that note.

Using OP example above, where ~40000points=$200 woolworths voucher, then yes, I agree that QFF points are better

      • pretty sure, it made me $450.

    • where does it say 50k QFF or 50k ANZ rewards points?

correct me if i'm wrong, the 50k QFF points is a deal that applies to the Frequent Flyer card, not these Reward cards
      http://www.anz.com/personal/credit-cards/?pid=crc-rhn-td-per…

        • I clicked on that link by nadan, which seems to say that the 50k QFF points only apply to the Frequent Flyer cards, and ANZ rewards points only apply to the Rewards cards. Have I missed something?

        • @slimdusty: it's 2 separate cards/reward schemes. read further down this page. both have first year annual fee waived (spend over $3k over 3 months)

  • Hmm already have 3 x credit cards with thousands of dollars in credit limits. I'm not even that rich. But perhaps I can still get approved for this too?

This offer is until 30 June, so perhaps I will cancel one of my cards by then and then apply for this…

Should I reduce the credit limits on my existing cards before applying for this?

    • +2

Will you spend $1K/month on credit card for 3 months though?

    • Yup. Wondering when I'll break six figures in credit limits here due to signing up for the free points deals.

    • Just be aware that each open line of credit you have on file makes it harder to get future lines of credit (eg bank loans, even mobile accounts).

    • +1

Just buy a couple of fully refundable flights on Qantas. After you have your rewards cancel them and get your money back.

      • Does the $30 fee they charge for using credit cards get refunded as well?

    • +1

Well I have applied for the CBA card deal and got approved. 40k QFF points coming up but I have to pay $10. Now I have four cards.

  • +13

Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Rewards, ANZ Rewards Platinum or ANZ Rewards Black credit card within the previous twelve months.

    • Thanks - this is what I was about to look into.

    • Cheers. Maybe if I cancel my current card now they'll do this again in 2016 and I can apply :D

      • I have recently cancelled an ANZ Rewards card and was dissapointed to see this exclusion. However checking the exclusion for the frequent flyer offer leads me to believe that i may be eligible for that offer instead.

Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card or where you currently hold or have closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card within the previous twelve months.

You may be able to close the card you have now and apply for the other type shortly after.

  • Damn, just signed up for the NAB offer with 40,000 QF points because ANZ still had the annual fee.

Might wait a little while then apply for this once the NAB application isn't so fresh. But then I have a large expense coming up that would activate these rewards points…

What a stupid dilemma to have

  • +2

So if I cancel after 6 months and I've spent the 3K in the first 3 months will I still keep the QF FF points?

    • +3

      Yes.

    • I"ve just applied and now thinking/worried about this as well.
Plan is to drop the min spend on it quickly and maybe cancel it 3-4 months… hummm…

      • +1

There should be no harm in keeping it for 11-12mths, just remember to call to cancel (and see if they'll waive the annual fee).

Depends if your current card(s) have better rewards points (or cashback) for normal purchases.

  • +10

Note: Rewards points are only valid for 36mths, if you stockpile them.

Summary of Rewards Platinum vs Bankwest Zero - Complimentary Overseas Travel insurance (interesting limits in AUD):

Provider Excess Dental Cash (Theft) Electronic(laptop) sub-limit Mobile sub-limit Delay Delay(Max) Resumption
    ANZ 250 2000 0 4000 1000 6h=250 accom, 50 meals 2000 >25% remaining 3000
    Bankwest 250 2000 600 5500 5500 6h=reasonable expenses 475 >14days remaining (within 30d) 5750

Cancellation & Medical are 'unlimited' for both. Always refer to the PDS for information before making a decision.

  • Interesting about this offer is that even the most basic FF card ( not black or platinum) is included in the offer and 50000 Qantas points are included with first year fee free as long as you spend the $3000 in the first 3 month of issue.

Will consider for sure when and if my rating goes up again from the NAB and Westpac deals here.

    Just went down today :'-(

    • how did you check your own rating? im guessing for free?

      • +2

        Creditsavvy.com.au :)

        • Thanks will check it out.

        • thanks, good to know

  • If I only held the basic one before and cancelled few months ago, am I still eligible to apply for Platinum and/or Black and still get points? Do I get 50,000 or 100,000?

  • Merged from 50,000 Qantas FF Points with ANZ Platinum, Black, FF Credit Card (First Year Annual Fee Waived)

Thought this really need to be a separate deal.
Available with the standard, black and platinum frequent flyer card. Eligibility criteria applies depending on what card you apply for. Just for the standard FF card you need an annual income of 15k, platinum is 50k, and black is 75k.

Black card also gets you 2x Qantas club passes and a discount on Qantas club memebership. Also gets you access to participating airport lounges worldwide, regardless of which airline you are flying with.
Platinum and Black give you complimentary travel/medical insurance and car rental excess cover.

Must spend $3000 in the first 3 months.
Not valid for existing ANZ credit card holders or if you have closed an account in the previous 12 months.
Must apply for card by 30th June, 2015.
You can get the points and cancel before the annual fee in the second year applies.

Complimentary Qantas Frequent Flyer membership included.

I'm unsure how many people take up such offers, but 'giving away' 50,000 QFF points at a time certainly erodes the value of the points for those that 'earn' them through flying.

  • im wondering, I am currently a card holder of ANZ and have my wife as supplementary card holder. Does supplementary card holder is also considered as a card holder in this context?

If not, I can sign up with her name.

    Anyone?

    • No, a secondary card holder is not considered a card holder in this context.
As long as your wife has not closed a FF or Rewards Card within the last 12 months, as a PRIMARY card holder - she would be eligible for the bonus points.

      • +2

Yep, she never had an anz account before so that means she's eligible.
this is awesome, we might aim for the black rewards so we can lounge at amex for free next time we travel overseas
        Thanks carbonmeister!

    • It's your account. Seperate ratings/benefits.

  • Hmm I think I am just within 12 months after cancelling my card from the deal last year.

    • me too :(

  • The Qantas one is definitely better - same terms, but 50,000 QFF points > 50,000 ANZ rewards points, even if you convert both to gift vouchers.

  • Do any of these accounts liit the number of points you can earn per month?

Woolworths did a ninja change where you only earn .5 pts/dollar above $2500.

    Looking for something else now

    • +1

Woolworths has gone to complete garbage. $50 increase in annual fee, points tiered after $2500, AND they will steal points off you if you pay more than your closing balance/pay before the statement is issued. They're thieves - I'm just hanging out for my free 2,000 points for using the new card they sent me, then I'll be cancelling, even though they'll probably waive the fee forever.

  • +4

Btw to anyone feeling guilty about closing this later on; don't. ANZ is a horrible bank. When I set up this card last year in the city, I had to come in multiple times because my lunch break only lasts so long. The lines go on forever and make you wait like an hour to set up a card, when other companies just do it online or over the phone.

Plus fees etc makes it non competitive.

    • +5

I got dudded by them several times when I was in uni (welched on an offer because of their admin errors, rewards points expired without warning, etc). Taking my 50,000 QFF points, and $250 in Myer vouchers, paying $0 in fees and closing both accounts within 6 months of opening, was very rewarding.

    • I think you would struggle to find an inner-city bank that isn't busy around lunch time. I got the FF Platinum card with this deal last year and it was all done online. If you're new to the bank you would need to do the ID check in branch but the rest should be fine over the phone or online. For the record; I'm not saying ANZ is/isn't a horrible bank, just that my experience was different.

    • I had a bad experience with the ID check in branch too

  • +1

    /.

  • +1

Does this card have an international currency transaction fee?

    • I believe they do, i know my current anz ff platinum does.

  • out of curiosity, can you cancel these cards online, or do you have to go in?

    • +1

I found they were the most straightforward of any banks when calling to cancel. No third degree. Having said that, if you can send messages in your online banking login, they'll usually take that as sufficient instruction to close an account.

      • +5

NAB offered me another 2500 points to not cancel, so I took them up on the offer, well at least until my 2500 points are received! =) YMMV

    • +1

      Gave them a call:

      Option 1

  • I have an ANZ QFF Black. My wife has an ANZ QFF Platinum.

She just got a letter saying that the amount of points per month is now capped at a maximum of 6000 (we got our bonus points last year). I haven't got the same letter yet that I know of. Some months we do get over 6k points, like when we pay for my sister in law's uni fees (international student).

Anyone know any more about this?

  • +1

has anyone who secured this deal last year had to renew their card yet?

if so any tips for getting annual fee waived?

    • I'm going to be in the same boat. One month left before my first year is up. Wouldn't mind keeping the card but not for the annual fee though!

    • Just ask. That said, I've only ever had one bank say yes (Westpac Earth in like 2010ish.)

QSCU responded indignantly to the suggestion, lol.

  • Nooooo. I foolishly was lured by the bonus points WITH a fee! only applied and approved yesterday! Any advice on how to switch to this offer? or am I too late!

    • same boat as u …

i'll ask them when i do my id check at a branch.

    • With that offer you pay the fee ($89?) but you do not have to spend $3000. Only 1 purchase…no minimum spend

    • Use cooling off period to cancel or to have them modify the terms under which you signed up. In the worst case cancel and re apply a month later.

    • I am in the same boat as you all! Stupidly applied and approved right before the deal finished up thinking I got a good deal only to wake up to this new deal and bang my head against the wall… Anyone had any luck with ANZ in getting the new deal?

  • Doesn't seem to list any lounges in Australia
    http://www.anz.com/resources/2/5/257c91e2-1f9f-4efb-bf2d-b9a…

  • i applied for a qantas platinum about 8 months ago. If I apply for the black qantas do you think i'm eligible?

    • Highly unlikely. It's worded to cover the whole range for a reason.

    • When the same deal was offered last year people were able to successfully apply for all six cards (FF Std, FF Plat, FF Black, Rewards Std, Rewards Plat & Rewards Black). Each of the cards were considered a separate offer. Although applying for all six in the short period of time will likely affect your credit rating.

    • i can confirm i was able to get the black card and have been approved. so as long as its a different product its ok!

      • +2

Have you confirmed with ANZ that you'll be eligible for the bonus points a second time in 12 months?

  • your application has been refered… Hmmmn too many cards maybe..

    • But in my email you have been approved instant email…

  • I currently have a Black Rewards card from last year still active. From what I gather from the T&C is that I should be able to apply for a Black Frequent flyer and get the 50,000 bonus points?

    • That's the way I read it as well. The eligibility in the T&C's seem to be exclusive to the same card type (rewards or frequent flyer). If anyone is able to confirm please let us know.

      • As I just posted above:

When the same deal was offered last year people were able to successfully apply for all six cards (FF Std, FF Plat, FF Black, Rewards Std, Rewards Plat & Rewards Black). Each of the cards were considered a separate offer. Although applying for all six in the short period of time will likely affect your credit rating.

  • Does anyone know when this offer ends?

  • Great stuff guys!
Do you know whether paying off the balance of another credit card with this credit card counts as a purchase?
Don't want to change all those credit card details for my automatic monthly payments just for this deal :)
    Thanks.

    • I don't believe you can pay credit with credit, unless you do a balance transfer.

      • Makes sense. They likely figure it out. Thanks.

  • Wow approved! 15 000 limit.
Have got approved another two cards)
    QF miles are good.
Sometimes i use them for Business class upgrade.
Didn't know about the Wollies gift cards, Etc.

Thanks guys! such a good community))
    cheers

    • +1

      Congrats. You sound surprised?

I was wondering as well to just go for the $15000 credit limit black card although I already got another $8000 credit limit credit card.

  • We got 2 cards in the mail both Visa and Amex. So the $3000 purchase is calculated based on both the cards total?

    • Yes, they both link to the same account.

  • Maybe a noob question here, but if I pay a $100 bill for example, and there is a 5% surcharge for paying on AMEX, does that mean $105 goes towards the $3k?

    • +1

Yes. Merchant surcharges are just additional costs of the given purchase. Foreign currency fees charged by the bank, however, may not be counted toward your spend.
