    WORST DEAL POSTED

Thanks. I'm sure it will be of use for someone looking for more batteries (like i am)

      • -1

but the sale is on every 2nd day….

        • +1

8 x Rouge at $22 are Japanese… Id prefer them to the Chinese versions for $9. As a comparison, the UOMO on P2 are $40 for the same 8 x battery just different colours.
$15 for Pro versions is also not too bad.

        • @Tuba: Hmm looks like the Rouge ones are the only AA packs (apart from Pro) available in SA for click and collect. Are they really worth paying the extra $7 for over the tropical/chocolate?

        • +4

          @Chickenleg:
Yes. They start out the same, but testing has shown they dont hold up over time anywhere near as well as the Japanese versions. Moreover, you wont be able to get Japanese for long. At $22 the price is decent. WHile loops have been as low as $9, the were always the Chinese ones, the Japanese ones havent been much lower than the $22 now.

They are Gen 3, not Gen 4, but Gen 3 Japanese are much superior to Chinese Gen 4. Japanese Gen 4 is good though, but we dont get them.

If you want to use themin remotes, it wont really matter though. If youre going to use them in something with reasonable drain on it, then you will reap benefits of the Jap cells.

        • @Tuba: Interesting, thanks

        • @Chickenleg:
As an aside, and it may seem pointless to some, but the packaging of the Rouge and UOMO packs also works well as a case to store them in even after opening. Its a pity Panasonic changed from Sanyos packaging method.

        • +1

          @Tuba:

I've been very vocal about Japanese Eneloops in the past, but are you sure the Rouge are indeed Japanese? Chinaloops have essentially taken over all previous packaging and DSE have been slow to update their online images/description to reflect the new Chinaloops.

Only way to be sure is to check in store, if you've done that I'll get some more too. Eneloop Pros are the only one I'm certain are still Japanese right now.

Happy to be wrong on the Rouge though.

        • +1

          @Click_It:

UPDATE: D6C1 confirmed below over the phone the Rouge's are MIJ. We can trust a DSE rep to accurately represent their product line, right?

Good find Tuba, sorry for ever questioning you ;)

        • +2

@Click_It: Just to reassure you further, I don't think the Rouge, Uomo, Glamorous or Forest Tone eneloops have ever been made outside of Japan. I can also confirm that as of 3-4 weeks ago, a pack of Rouge I bought from DSE were Made in Japan. And it looks like the second listing for the Tropical batteries has been dropped, as I realised that there were two listings a few weeks ago - one for the 4th Gen Tropicals (Made in China) and another for the 3rd Gen Tropical (Made in Japan) - so I now have Chinese AND Japanese Tropicals :)

        • @pfeerick:

Awesome, thanks for that. I figured Uomo was discontinued as it hasn't shown up since the MIC era begun. I didn't know Glamorous & Forest Tones were ever locally available, so I must have missed that one altogether! There are a few other cool looking ones in Japan that never made it to our shores, a Mickey Mouse range, a Disney characters range, and some straight colour ones I don't know the name of.

So for now it would seem Rouge and Eneloop Pro continue to be MIJ, though Rouge are still Sanyo branded, right?

        • @Click_It: It would appear so, the ones I bought a few weeks ago are still Sanyo branded. The Pros are Japanese (Sanyo branding was XX). I bought some Forest Tone Batteries from Japan via a seller on the forums to make sure I had some 'proper' eneloops, before I realised I could still get them via DSE with some careful shopping :)

        • @pfeerick:

If it makes you feel any better, I was talking to an eBay seller (possibly the same one as you) and almost ordered a bunch of Eneloops for the same reason. Lucky I didn't, the following day I bought Eneloop Pros from DSE (eBay 20% off) for $12ea. Was going to cost almost double from Japan :)

        • They (DSE) have a glitter pack with the nice Rouge packaging for under $15, but these are made in China (not rouge packs, they were still $39). Spotted them yesterday, oddly I cant for the life of me remember what colour range they were. It was less than 24 hrs ago.

Cant find them on the web.

The Rouge are likely to be older stock. I doubt they are still being manufactured.

  • +6

WOW DICKSMITH ARE HAVING A SALE. No offence OP.

  • +1

    Haha love the compliments :)

    Thanks wogboy315

  • For example…?

  • Just to confirm just ordered online for click and collect at the same price! Dont pay for shipping :) Enjoy :D

    • How did you do that? I only have the "Online Only" option

      • -1

        1- Check store stock
        2- Enter your postcode
        3- Choose your store
        4- Pay
        5- Pick it up
        6- Enjoy :)

        • Could you be specific? I didn't see 'Check Store Stock' option either.

        • @JPic: Should be next to "Buy now" option.

        • Doesn't seem to work for the aaa's?

        • could not work on Fujitsu AA Alkaline ;(

  • +2

    Thanks D6C1!

I've been on ozb for a while and still don't own Eneloops! I'm behind on my game, clearly.

I am looking for rechargeable CR2 batteries x 2 for an Instax Share printer, does anyone know where I can get these or whether I can buy an Eneloop charger to recharge them?

    • I've been on ozb for a while and still don't own Eneloops!

Shame on you ;) that's so un Australian

      • Better buy some quick so I can get citizenship

  • +1

    Tell 'em the price, son.

  • +4

Why would anyone buy Eneloops at these prices, when for the hot price of $7.49, you can buy 8 x premium disposable Dick Smith Glitter batteries?

  • +1
  • +1

C&C works for me when I added to the cart. Don't really need them… must resist…

  • +1

The Fujitsu rechargeable batteries(Pack of 2) are available at a good price as well.Remember these are made in the same factory as the japanese eneloops.

    • Yes they are… The FDKs. I can't believe that no one else had commented on them!!!

      • Been mentioned a couple of times. One explaining the Fujitsu page links were not working right at the time.

        • They may have mentioned the deal, but hadn't mentioned till some time after that these are indeed the SAME battery as the eneloop!
All the comments above are eneloop this, eneloop that. People have become so blinded by the name that I bet they'd rather buy the Chinese eneloop over some weird green FDK branded battery!

        • @Snoop:
Its a tad difficult to mention a deal you can not see, how is it you expect anyone to notice they are on offer? The page was playing up. If you look at the revisions it was added to the title at 9:38am. 4 minutes after the post we're playing about in. At that point it had been said.

Deal is posted at 8:56am, 38 mins later the Fujitsus are added to the original post.

  • +1

Can anyone explain why these batteries are so special? I see this deal almost every second day and I don't understand why these batteries are so great other than being rechargeable.

    • +1

      Low self-discharge and rechargable

      • Oh really. Three could be good for my camera flash. Thanks.

        • Yeah, that's what I use mine for… keep 8 in my camera bag incase I need them…

        • @ProjectZero:

Something to consider if using primarily for camera flash is the Eneloop Pro range! That's their strength at the cost of less charge cycles of course. I think the pros outweigh the cons personally.

  • Given all the recent criticism (some justified) of DSE, I still can't work out if this is a good price for eneloop?

Not looking for a deal breaker price and the JAP/CHN isn't too much of a factor. Seems like a good price compared with the recent Masters $19.95 price

  • Shipping is too expensive :(

  • What is the difference between Tropical and Chocolate?

I asked in a previous thread, and it was recommended I get the Chocolate ones for my wireless mouse. However, for some reason, I can only do C&C for the Tropical ones.

    • The colour. That's about it.

There used to be slight differences (shelf life & life cycles) back in the Sanyo days between models but I'm pretty sure they're all the same now. I haven't kept on top of it since Panasonic took over. Eneloop Pros / Lites are the obvious exception.

Edit: did some googling and they appear to be identical - 65% after 5 years and 2100 cycles. So your answer is in the first 2 words of this reply.

  • Can someone please explain how to identify Chinese/Japanese made?

Which is good among Chinese & Japanese version?

Also, I see eneloops from Panasonic & Sanyo brands. How are they different and which is good?

    Thanks in advance.

    • +2

According to the item number on dse website, the tropical are japanese made and chocklates are chinese made. I will get mine delivered today from the last deal, so will know for sure the model number then.
sanyo brands are gen 1/gen 2 i guess and they are surely made in japan, then panasonic bought the eneloops from sanyo and split the production in japan and chinese, US mainly gets japanese made and AU gets chinese made, as with all the chinese vs japanese made people are claiming that japanese made are superior than chinese ones.

    • +4

Some answers (and hints) are here in this PDF I've posted before: (hope this works from phone)

      https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&ei=wKFSV…

70% and 65% claim over 5 years is the first give away (the former being Japanese), from memory the Chinaloops change the cycle claim and increase the mAh.

Above it was suggested the Rouge is still Japanese, I can't confirm nor deny that yet but be aware DSE uses out-dated marketing on some eneloops. The only reason I have ANY Chinaloops is due to their misleading descriptions. I didn't buy them by choice.

      Lightbulb moment
This question comes up a lot, anyone with questions unanswered thus far please pm me with them, I think I might design my own improved PDF answering everything in one place to link to in future deals. It will also address DSE's misleading advertising if they haven't fixed it yet.

      • love your work posting this, thanks.

        • +1

No problem, its a bit difficult accurately answering from my phone blind but I think I got my statements right. I'll get onto the Q&A PDF later.

I've just checked the DSE links and they appear to have updated all the descriptions, no more mention of Japan origin, no more images from old packaging. The only one left to clarify is the Rouge packaging, their website shows Sanyo which are certainly Japanese Eneloops. Won't know until I see instore.

UPDATE: D6C1 got confirmation on the phone, Rouge's are indeed the MIJ Sanyo version still.

      • +1

"Above it was suggested the Rouge is still Japanese"

I called DSE in Burwood NSW. The Rouge ones are made in Japan :)

        • +2

Thank you. I'm going to put together an info sheet on Eneloops, certainly DSE cleaning up their descriptions removes much of the confusion.

So for those wanting true MIJ Eneloops, your DSE options are as follows:

Rouge (now confirmed, we can trust a DSE rep right?)

          Eneloop Pro AA $14.80
          http://www.dicksmith.com.au/batteries/eneloop-pro-rechargabl…

          Eneloop Pro AAA $14.80
          http://www.dicksmith.com.au/batteries/enelooppro-rechargable…

And of course the Fujitsu 2pk Rechargeable AA/AAA's but their page links aren't working right now (works out to be about the same price as the Rouge, if you don't want 8, or want to mix AA/AAA that's another way to go)

For some, the Eneloop Pros are the highlight of the present sale (usually excluded from these sales) so you might want to put it in the OP.
Second cheapest they've been (best price was $12.59 during the last eBay 20% March promotion - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/188260).

  • Couple of quick questions - are any Sanyo Eneloops made in Japan? Also, I see standard eneloops have up to 1800 recharges or somesuch, yet the eneloop pro/XX ones only have 500 recharge? Only really want them for Noise cancelling headphones/low drain stuff but still want Japanese batteries. Suggestions?

    • +1

pro/xx series is for flash photographers which have a higher recycling time, you can get either panasonic or sanyo, panasonic being the new gen which might be from china, sanyo is old gen which is from japan

      • +1

Currently the Panasonic Eneloop Pros are still Japanese. Don't count on this remaining so in the long term.

    • +3

You do not need pros for that application. Pros deliver more amps, and as such suffer in other aspects of LSD tech, its a trade off. If you dont need 8, just get the pair of Fujitsu for under $7 I think, its the same thing and guaranteed Japanese.

If it says it retains upto 65% charge, its Chinese. If it says 70%, its Japanese.

There are 4 Gens of Japanese Eneloops.
      Gen 1 ?1200? cycles
      Gen 2 1500 cycles
      Gen 3 1800 cycles
      Gen 4 2100 cycles

IIRC, with each Gen capacity never changed much, it was shelf life that improved (retention), and number of possible cycles. These improvements along with good current delivery properties are what makes an Eneloop a superior battery.

But ther is also a Chinese version of the Gen 4.
      Gen 4 Chinese 2100 cycles 65% retention

Chinese versions effectively die after 400 cycles. Note, the Japanese ones under the same testing were still going reasonably well after 800 cycles, but it was unlikely any would make the claimed 2100. But also note, the 2100 is ideal circumstances, ideal charging routines, ideal usage, ideal storage etc. The key is not the number of cycles, but the ability to delivery current after many cycles. Its here that the Chinese cell will truly show how poor it is. This is why I wont buy them, not 5% retention difference, or some anti China thing.

EDIT: Well there ya go stolen from a link found from the wiki linked below.
      HISTORY
      2001
Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd. acquires Toshiba Battery Co., Ltd.'s "nickel-metal hydride battery business" and forms Sanyo Energy Twicell Co., Ltd.

      2010
FDK acquired Sanyo Energy Twicell Co., Ltd. and formed FDK Twicell Co., Ltd. (Although Panasonic acquired Sanyo, they could not acquire this particular Sanyo manufacturing facility due to antitrust issues.)

      2014
FDK Twicell Co., Ltd. to merge with FDK CORPORATION

Sanyo and Panasonic have been involved with not only each other, but Eneloop for years, its not recent. The recent change is simply the removal of other brand names, and replacing them with Panasonic. And the detrimental aspect of trying to shift production to China, and using Oceania (where we live) as part of the testing of that new production facility. The results are sub par products.

      • Thats exactly right, Tuba.
        This post is spot on!

So in addition those that still want the original MIJ quality have two options.
1/ Hunt down remaining MIJ Eneloop stock , its still out there.
2/ Buy Fujitsu branded LSD MiMh batteries which are made in the original Eneloop factory to the original "recipe" and most probably on the original equipment. DSE sell these but rarely discounted.
        http://www.dicksmith.com.au/batteries/fujitsu-ready-to-use-r…
        NOTE: 1800 cycles/70% retention/5 years.

    • Just picked up Sanyo from the last deal and can confirm they are Japanese made.

The packaging looked a bit faded, must have been sitting on the shelf for too long

  • +1

Dick Smith used to have the Sanyo (Japanese)tropical eneloops using their stock codes s4475 (http://www.dicksmith.com.au/camera-accessories/eneloop-aa-re…) and s4478 (http://www.dicksmith.com.au/batteries/eneloop-aa-rechargeabl…). Our local store has these in stock (labelled "online only"!) but at $49.95.

Currently the website only has the Panasonic (Chinese) tropicals using their stock code s4492 (http://www.dicksmith.com.au/batteries/eneloop-aa-tropical-8-…). While they are notionally available for $14.98 click-and-collect, our local store is "out of stock" and presumably won't get any stock until they sell all of the $49.95 old tropical eneloops.

Dear Dick Smith rep, if you are here, could you please put the s4475/s4478 tropical eneloops on sale for $14.98 in the same way as the s4492 model, with click-and-collect, so that all tropical eneloops are sold at the same price.

  • Eneloop Pro out of stock but still showing in stock for C&C in Melb CBD (Emporium and Bourke St). Offered refund but i'll pick mine up from Prahran instead.

  • Should I only buy what I need and is there any downside of buying bulk for future use?

    • If you never use them, then yep, waste of money. But they will still work fine 5 yrs from now, and should still be 70% charged straight from the package. 5yrs from now, you recharge them they should work fine for 1000 realistic usage cycles.

  • How does the Eneloop Pro compare to then Eneloop Sanyo XX below

    http://www.dicksmith.com.au/batteries/eneloop-xx-lsd-1-2v-95…

    • Same IMO. Im not aware of any change to these. The recipe is exactly the same as it has been, they are made in the same factory, its just the label is changed to rebrand as Panasonic.

      • Slightly cheaper :)

        • +1

Or slightly dearer, depending if youre a glass half full or …

        • @Tuba:

Yeah exactly the same just aesthetic differences. Still made in Japan (for now).

That's a great find williamfslee, I didn't realise DSE stocked XX anymore, and it's cheaper to boot. Identical batteries to my knowledge, only those are $0.80 cheaper. Nice!

  • Dicky delivered, all chinese

  • Next time please tick box saying 'I am associated with Dick Smith Electronics (DSE)'

    • +1

If your referring to his ad-like looking deal, the details came together over hours from user contribution (myself included). It looks like an ad but it's not.

I'm no fan of DSE, burnt from their misleading descriptions (Eneloops) in the past.

Unless I completely misread your post?
