Got the decline email also. No card received but Gold membership is active on website.

Seems to be an awful company according to the reviews : https://au.trustpilot.com/review/www.regus.co.uk

Simon can enjoy my not so nice email… now time to hit up the ACCC lol?

    • I reckon they would just hit "Delete"

      • That email is probably their spam email. No point in using my emails with fancy domains I guess :P

    • +2

      Like many clubs, their
T&C allow membership to be revoked at any time. You did read the t&c before complaining I hope.

      Same happened last deal.
I issued warnings this was likely outcome in this deal.

Regus can claim as most applying are not DinersClub members, using a code issued to DinersClub members for their exclusive use in a Regus-DinersClub promotion is … potentially fraudulent.

And ACCC is definitely the wrong body to complain to.

Would you take a nightclub to the ACCC if the person on the door refused your entry because you were wearing thongs, against their dress code for entry?

Noticed your Taswegian location. I've been asked to leave the Men's Gallery, "Australia's premier gentleman's club" in Hobart! No ACCC complaint from me. How was I to know their club rules forbade drunken fondling of the stripper. My shouting at the bouncer told them who was boss. I've never returned. That will teach them ;-)

      • +2

I added the lol? at the end for a reason. Everytime something like this is pulled, everyone complains and says how they're going to get the ACCC involved (e.g. HP Slatebook).

        • It's OzBargain. People always appeal to the authorities, then tell them to butt out of their lives. Lol ;-)

I added the stripper incident to show I was not really that serious ;-)

Have a +, you stirrer from the South.

@brucefromaustralia: My apologies, that was my other head doing the talking then.

        • @Clear:
No, on my phone's screen, your comment looked deadly serious. It's lol filter was on.

I only have 1 head to blame ;-)
          My apologies.

I was at "10 days on the Island" one time. A politician with a good sense of humour said,
"You know why we've got 2 heads - so we'll have someone intelligent to talk with on the mainland."
          Makes sense to me.

gave real name/details, also got declined. but i'm not mad since i'm not a diners club member and didn't really intend on making use of the membership. sucks if it's your second home though lol

  • Application Rejected

  • Same email received but still shows as gold card on Web and android app. Never used it yet tho and really had no need for it but still bad for others.

  • received the same decline email despite the earlier membership confirmation

  • Declined :(

    Application declined (like everyone else).

How can this have 675+ votes?

    • +1

This was a great deal that was killed off purely by it's popularity.

I withdrew my very early + (15/05 - 21:57) when I realised the overwhelming number of applications far exceeded the number of DinersClub members who would be legitimately able to claim this deal.

Seems only the OP noticed & asked me for an explanation ;-)

      tonester on Tue, 19/05/2015 - 13:18
huh? you revoked your vote? :)

    • +10

I've read all the comments in this thread and you've come across as extremely pretentious, pompous and selfish.

First you brag about how you've got your Gold membership in the last deal through the same means (without DinersClub membership) and applied for another one this time for "guests".

Then you teased others about the amazing view of your "private office".

When the deal got hot you started getting worried about your "private office" taken away by others so you actively discouraged others to apply.

Now that people's memberships got revoked you rub it in people's face with condescending remarks.

      • I've read all the comments in this thread and you've come across as extremely pretentious, pompous and selfish.

I can see how he can come across that way, but the impression I got wasn't that at all. A little bit eccentric maybe? :)

        • Same.

I felt he promoted the deal (almost like a salesman) as opposed to being all "gtfo ozbargainers stop applying". All the "my private office will be ruined" was said as a joke and wasn't serious.

  • -7

The overwhelming number of applications meant the only likely outcome would be mass refusal as I posted on 17/5 etc, so people would be prepared.

Hope people took the advice to enjoy it while it lasts. 4 weeks of available business lounge use is better than nothing.

  • -2

And for the record, I applied within minutes of this deal posting. Received the application declined email tonight. Disappointing for my friends who could have borrowed the card I hoped to offer them. Regus Gold Membership is worth having.

Looks like all applications will be cancelled. Easy enough to see the source of the massive number of applications, nearly 18,000 clicks all directed from 1 site - OzBargain. I'm surprised Regus's web administrator didn't suspect their site was under attack long ago.

  • +6

Return email: "I'd love to take up your offer of 10% off on a gold membership, however I fear you'll tell me that offer is no longer valid and instead offer me 10% off a platinum membership."

    • Wow, that's telling them.

Got the same declined offer email, but didn't give any personal details out.

    • You told a business you'd love to take up their offer… they probably won't read past that ;-)

They're used to business people who would love to join. They may not see the sarcasm for the potential money.

Maybe expect a better offer :-)

  • declined, and i took the offer within an hour of posting….

    • And yet some people claim to have received their membership pack within 14 days, even though they probably applied later. I'd say their membership will still be declined.

      • That is unless they were valid DinersClub members, applying before this deal was posted.

        • How would Regus know? There's no cross-check database.

        • +1

          @twocsies:
See deal description last deal, Regus required some to provide DC membership number to get the deal. There are no details of how they used the numbers provided. It closed down the deal temporarily, but that was the end of the deal. I applied early & snuck through. Others were not so lucky.

That did make the success of this deal questionable. I posted about that problem this deal.

      • Membership gained through this deal, with gold card issued was declined below :-(

  • Received the same declined email. Absolute bullsh!t.

  • Application declined :(

  • +2

Received my membership pack a couple of days ago and got the email earlier saying the same Declined application. Still shows Gold on my account page though.

Anyone tried using it as Gold after the email but with the card?

  • Declined @@@@

  • Same here, declined :(

  • Application declined (like everyone else).

How can this have 675+ votes?

    • -6

Unfortunately, this deal was too popular for its own good. Those 18k clicks tipped Regus off.

There were only 3.7 + votes per 100 clicks through to membership form. That's a low rate of + votes in a popular freebie deal.

It was a good deal. I got 2 previous deals over 2 years & can tell you how good these deals are.

That's why I posted over 150 comments mainly in response to people's questions or to help others understand the deal. Posting on a $40 phone screen, that's a bit of effort, considering ultimately no one benefited :-(

I see you thought it was not worthy of a vote at the time you applied for membership, received 4 weeks free access to Regus Business Lounges, & now neg!

Of course missing out on a deal is disappointing. But that tells you this deal was good enough to want. (Even if many would rarely use the deal.)

By 17/5 I warned the deal was unlikely to succeed as it became ridiculously popular & enjoy it while it lasts. At that point I withdrew my +.

Even 4 weeks access to free coffee & use of a lounge in great CBD locations would normally be worth a + vote!

      • Well I didn't use it once in the 4 weeks as I had no need…So I missed out :-/

        • +1

Pity, but at least you don't know what you missed out on. Best to get in early to use popular deals, in case you miss out.

But like some OzBargain deals, we grab them, but may rarely or never use them. I rarely use my membership. My first membership was only used twice in 1 year, before it expired. My current membership has been used enough for staff at my usual office to not bother asking for my card.

These free membership deals have become progressively more popular, & harder to get :-(

Regus has learnt from previous OzBargainering experiences.

At the start, few could be bothered with 8 + votes, 600 clicks but only 30days membership.

Last deal got 145 + votes, 6000 clicks for 3year membership - some apparently missed out.

Now nearly 18000 clicks to apply for membership but no one gets in!

      • +1

A message from a disappointed OzBargainer this morning included
"But anyway, I learnt something new from this deal and visited the Chatswood Regus office and it was good experience".

Not everyone is as outraged they didn't get a deal they were never eligible for.

  • application denied.

  • -5

I'd encourage all of you to email Simon Randell. I received an email on 15/05/15 stating "Your membership is set up and ready to go". There were no conditions contained in the email. Mr Randell should have found a better response to being Ozbargained :) Tosser.

    • -4

You do realise applying with a code you had no right to use, through a DinersClub promotion application form (which I take it you are not a member of & so are not eligible for this promotion), your complaint that they refused your application is a brave move.

      Regus t&c (link in this
deal) covers their right to terminate membership.

      • +4

which side are you on OzBargain or Regus? Stop acting like a tosser

        • -1

Just stating the facts. That often gets lost in the anger.

Sometimes it is better to let things slide, in the hope we have a better chance next time. I know I'm being optimistic.

But if the only benefit in venting is so you feel better, it won't likely achieve the level of OzBargainer vengeance hoped for. Staff will be expecting criticism. It's just pointless. There are new deals to get. This one died some time ago.

Potentially obtaining benefit by fraudulent means can be serious. I'm currently dealing with a much more serious fraud case that just came in on Friday. It's not nice. No I'm not the one being charged.

I applied for & was refused membership for a family member (to also be used by friends), but did not give the actual details. It was worth a try.

Oh, that's going to be a whole stack of negs ;-)

        • +14

I'm amazed so many people here feel so entitled to a deal that they inappropriately tried to claim.

We all knew very well that we were not entitled to this deal. It was not targeted at us, and Regus is not a charity catering to relatively well-off people who want a freebie office. They are completely within their rights to cancel fraudulently-obtained memberships.

OzBargain is about bargains, not about inappropriate use of codes.

If the business ends up honouring the deal even though they know the codes were inappropriately used, then all's great. But if they exercise their right and cancel the memberships that we knew we inappropriately signed up for, we shouldn't be screaming murder.

We need to stop thinking about ourselves all the time.

        • -3

          @eug:
Shhh eug, you'll attract the negs.

Ethics & bargains are never a good combination. The phrase "this is OzBargain, not OzCare" appears occasionally & sums up the attitude of some people.

I've been off discussing providing food to those who really need it as the weather gets cooler. Not personally doing it these days, but providing resources, know-how & training where appropriate.

As a volunteer, I've trained poor Buddhists in Myanmar in ethical customer service. That's challenging at an expensive hotel for Foreigners, when the staff member goes home to a house of woven bamboo & 1 light bulb.

I've held people as they died, reassuring them. And I am haunted by the memories of bodies floating down a river or piled in the street.

But sometimes the sheer joy on a person's face when I give them a simple piece of fruit is worth all the meaningless bargains here.

These are all off the radar for those demanding what they want. It's another world beyond mere things. But it's not my role to change others.

          But I still like a bargain ;-)

Everything is just shit, it's the size of the shit that differs, to misquote Fritz Pearls.

        • @eug: Can't agree with this more.

It's deals like this + when Delivery Hero started dropping the value in their codes where you really see the two sides to Ozbargain.

Delivery Hero could've not offered any discount code at all, offered a $10 discount code once and attracted maybe ~100 pos votes, and then be considered a "good company" (or good bargain) by ozbargainers.
However, if you do it the other way round (i.e. offer $20 then drop it to $10) all of a sudden it becomes a bad deal. Where the !$*% is the logic in that?

How good a deal is should be determined in isolation. i.e. can you get a better alternative at that point in time? If the answer is no, then yes, good deal. Yes. I understand we are human and sometimes we get used to $20 coupons so $10 seems crappy, but we need to all understand that the primary goal of a business is to make money. The secondary goal is to satisfy good customers. The tertiary? goal is to satisfy bad customers. A business would not be a business if their primary goal was to satisfy people/customers - that's a charity.

In relation to this, this could've never been offered at all, but offered as a one-off to the first 50 applicants who supply an ABN.

I don't think of this as a bait & switch at all. It wasn't even a rep that posted it on Ozbargain.

Interestingly I AM a Dinersclub member ( I even have two diners cards! - which almost no one accepts)…. so I would have "legitimately" used the code?

Would it in this case be worth sending an email?…. I am thinking just let it go… I'll keep the cold card as a souvenir…. next to all the chocolate eneloops.

    • i'm a diners club member as well - best benefit is free airport lounges :)

officially regus preferred is now offered free with diners - not gold :(

  • Yup, also got the denied email and offered me their free version. Thanks but no thanks!

Everyone should try logging in online and downloading the Regus app. Some people still have Gold like myself. Worth a try.
