One hundred and fifty-four dollars for a pillow…? Dreamin'

    • you get what you pay for.

I bought temper pillows 2 months ago along with bed mattress etc.

      i paid $175ea discounted from $220ea

      • It's a pillow, for goodness' sake!

(also, downvote for "this guy failed to help me justify my questionable purchase" isn't how voting works on ozbargain)

        • -4

take it easy, ill buy you a box of tissues to wipe your tears.

I know your struggling, i don't mind helping out an ozbargainer with some spare change ;)

    • It is actually $220 for a pillow :)
I know what you are saying though; even I didn't know pillows were that expensive till yesterday

      • +3

In fairness, mate, I was walking down the street at about 4:30pm a couple of days ago. I found a Telstra bill that someone had dropped. The bill was for nearly a thousand bucks, but it had a note on it that said "20% off if paid before 5pm Friday". I only just made it to the nearest Telstra shop in time, but I did manage to get a $199 discount! Pretty amazing, eh?!

        • -1

Pity you didn't take a photo or scan the note/coupon

        • +12

          Your comment confuses me

        • +4

          @Jesmond:
It wasn't his bill but he paid it to get 20% off…. If you explain the joke it's not funny anymore.

Made from memory foam developed for Nasa though. Tempur has a unique product. I get your scepticism, but the properties in terms of support and temperature are unique to their product. I personally don't like their pillow as it's too high for me, but the mattress is incredible. Unfortunately this is what good mattresses and pillows cost. They remain comfortable for many years though, so think about long term costs too.

    • I bought a soft pillow from IKEA last week for $1.99. It's great.

    • +1

Ah yes, the usual stupid Ozbargain "A Hyundai is better than an Audi #becauselessmoney" argument.

      • <poke> There are other reasons a Hyundai is better than an Audi, not just the price. Reliability for one. </poke>

$154 for a pillow? Im really sorry to accuse Target for scamming me over $20 pillow.

      • +1

Im going to write a formal letter to Target CEO to defend my past bad behavior.

      • +6

Some people need a $1000 chair for work to avoid chronic pain. Some need a good pillow or mattress to be able to get any sleep. Have you ever tried Tempur? Do you know the product? They are at the top of the CHOICE satisfaction survey for mattresses

        • +4

All sounds great, but seriously, at these prices, where's the voucher for the happy ending?

    • +2

they scammed you not for the 20, but the crap pillow you bought.

I bought about 4 different pillows from target all on special. I can say the all crap and a waste of money. (side sleeper, memory foam bla bla bla)

Waking up everyday because of the quality of my pillow. I decided to spend and see what the difference is, now i know why these pillows are expensive and why target is cheap.

If your that much of a tight arse to compromise sleep over it, thats yours choice.

      • "Waking up everyday because of the quality of my pillow."

A good pillow means I don't have to wake up everyday? I'm convinced, I'm in!!!

  • +2

A pillow that costs as much as a cheap bed… Sounds legit.

    • +2

Physiotherapy and medical support for chronic back pain isn't cheap either

  • +1

I still can't believe I bought this pillow at RRP.

But seriously, this is best pillow I've ever slept on by far.

They have these on display at some bed/mattress shops. Try it out for yourself.

    • Can you elaborate what's so good about it?

      • Apologies. After checking the label on my pillow, it seems what i have is not the Symphony pillow, but the Comfort Pillow Cloud.

Different pillow, so I will refrain from describing it here (feel free to PM me if you want more info though).

A cheaper alternative with good reviews (I have not tried this myself):
        http://www.amazon.com/Shredded-Memory-Pillow-Bamboo-Cover/dp…

Unfortunately you will need a freight forwarder service to get it to you. Take into account that shipping costs are not based purely on weight, but on the dimensions of the product you're shipping too - so it can be more costly than you think to get it here.

"Account needs to be at least 30 days old to cast negative votes" I HATE YOU!!

    • +4

I don't care about you down voting this deal. However, 'I don't like this deal' is not a reason to neg a deal

      • -7

No, but "This is not a deal" is specifically the point of a downvote.

        • +1

Not a deal is decided if you can find the same product cheaper somewhere else or if it is no different to RRP. If someone else has need for this particular brand and its cheaper than rrp, its a deal. Even if you don't like it

      • -6

You care or you don't care this is not my problem. I didn't receive my previous purchase from HR which give me the right to down vote this deal.

        • I you sure your purchase something from HR?

  • +3

$154 could buy alot of temazepam. which would really get you dreamin

  • +3

A good pillow might be worth it. I have the Kat pillow I bought for 7 years and it's still as good as day I bougt. Quality pillows can be worth it.

  • +3

I do like Tempur, and having neck and back problems I bought one of these recently at a higher price than $154- so this is a deal, even if you don't "go for it" or like the product.

However, the pillow isn't working for me for the reason Make it so said https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/194505#comment-2756029

  • +2

Lol I sleep with no pillow. Never had any neck or back problems. Most of this stuff is marketing BS

    • Depends on the bed/mattress that you have. Some beds are supposed to be used without a pillow.

  • +17

Before all of the keyboard warriors get on here screaming about how its too expensive.

Have any of you COMPARED pillows?

You sleep for 8 hours a day. This is one third of your life. $200 is chump change when divided by the number of hours of use that it will recieve.

    • -2

I suspect the pivotal word here is 'chump'

    • +2

Before all of the keyboard warriors ……

Might be too busy playing on multi hundred $$ phones because they are just soooooooo much better than some cheap tacky $19 phone which we all know does the same thing right?!

Hmmmm, such irony …… such differing opinions …. such amusement :)

For the record; this is a + vote saving and I have a range of pillows from $10 - $100 which constantly get swapped every few weeks depending on what 'feels' right at the time.

    • -3

You sound like a "keyboard warrior". Yuck.

    • +3

Finally someone with brains, its ozB.

Tight arses here hear 50 for a pillow and have a heart attack

    • So, I wonder how long a Tempur pillow will last?

I bought my wife a Dunlopillo Theropillo memory foam pillow for around $150 five years ago - it lasted about 6 months before it stopped giving correct support. Same goes for those expensive Denton's pillows.

I'd love to find something that is cool and supportive and lasts at least a couple of years.

      • Tempur provides good warranty in general.

    • It's just like buying a computer chair. I'd rather spend hundreds of dollars on something that I will sit on for the whole day. Sure, a $20 chair will do, but then your spine, bump, and what else will thank you when you get old :)

    • +2

You sleep for 8 hours a day. This is one third of your life. $200 is chump change

Actually I sleep 12 hours a day because I'm unemployed, which means I can't afford this pillow even though I need it more than anyone else due to me sleeping 50% more.

  • +2

Gonna replace a pair of cotton pillows that cost me $8 at Kmart last year. This deal comes just in time. ;)

  • +2

Is this like a foam pillow?

I use a Soren Pillow bought from Harris Scarfe. Mine is foam and retails at $80. But every now and then it drops to $25 thats when I bought mine. I could never go back to a common pillow.

So what justifies the hefty price tag for this tempur pillow?

EDIT: I see someone mentioned its made with foam :)

    • +2

We use the Soren too. Good pillow, only downside is that its not machine washable.

      • So our pillow is the same as this one. Difference is that those that buy Tenpur are being seriously ripped off.

  • After much research I decided to get this instead.

    http://m.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/art/20269808/

  • How is this deal better than this or my pillow ?

    • DO NOT BUY anything that has the word 'Eco' in the title PERIOD.

      • +1

        How about EVO?

      • The eco thingy does not really bother me, however the price is right for the same material

  • +1

Has anyone used the hn Newsletter $25 signup voucher with this?

Just waiting for a moderator to come sort out the comments that people post to justify their ability to down vote based on what they think should be right…

Although its a niche market, if this product appeals to an audience on ozbargain, and if its cheaper than other retailers by what they believe is a noticeable amount, its considered a deal (from my 5+ years of surfing ozbargain)

Now I can see there are people comparing these pillows to $20 ones you buy from IKEA or target. These are NOT the same (not even made of the same thing). There are cheaper memory pillows that can be bought from Harris scarfe if you want to try them, and I'd encourage you to try (Denton's is a good choice). But a good memory foam pillow retains its shape and maintains support to head and neck for long term use, and a $50 memory foam pillow will do that for 2 or 3 times longer or more than a polyester or wool fiber pillow.

If I had some extra cash I'd definitely try one of these tempur. The were one of the first to work on memory foam, and some cheaper brands have this synthetic smell that doesn't go away quickly

TLDR: just because you don't find it appropriate for you doesn't make it not a bargain. Don't be a critic of something you haven't tried or can't see the application for

    • +2

Agreed. There are some people on here with rather amusingly ignorant views.

You spend 1/3 of your life sleeping. People often spend thousands on bed frames and thousands again on the mattress. Why cheap out at the final hurdle?

      • -2

That's because spending $$$$$ on a pillow DOES NOT equal to getting BETTER Sleep.

        • And you make that wide ranging statement of fact based on what evidence?

        • @atlas:

          Marketing 101

        • In the same way that wearing proper trainers that cost over $100 does not equal to better running than a $5 pair of shoes from kmart.

          Wait what?

        • @nairdajun
Real runners don't even wear shoes.
