  • I was also offered HP Pavilion X2 but they mentioned 11in screen not 10 in. May be an error or a different model.
Initially they asked $349 and I refused. After complaint, HP agree to offer me at no extra cost, but no written confirmation yet.

  • I have finally received my refund.

  • Got my laptop from HP today. It is HP Pavilion x360. 11 inch laptop with touch screen. Similar model mentioned above by Roary, but with older specs. I cannot find same model on HP website.
Good - 11 in, touch screen, 4 GB RAM, Windows 8.
Average - Pentium processor (old verison), 500 GB Hard disk.
Bad - Average resolution, 2 cell battery.
Not sure a good outcome, but surely end of long purchase and discussions with HP.

    • I have also been offered this laptop and today I have accepted. How do you find it? I saw it at JB and it looks like a decent enough machine, only complaint might be it's battery life isn't the greatest with a Pentium and only 2 cells. Apart from that it looks all right, although it's not FHD and not Android. Having said that you might be able to sell it and get a slatebook shipped from the US for the same price.

All in all I think this is a good result. I hope others here have been able to be similarly satisfied.

      • Laptop is ok. Lot of crapware, difficult to find which might be useful or not e.g. HP cloud, HP **** manager, Photo and video editing software package and games package. I deleted the game package but not sure about others. I will open one and see if it is trial version.
No Microsoft Office. Lots of crap apps from Windows store. Wasted time to clean them.
Battery is average last 4 hrs first time during set up, deleting crap and updating to 8.1.
Touch sensitivity is ok, not as smooth as iPad or tablets. It might take time to get used to.
I will keep it and use it as laptop for basic stuff as I have few home databases on Access e.g. Expense manager, inventory manager etc.
I might replace 500 GB hard drive with SSD as performance seems slight lag not sure I am comparing to tablets or not used to laptops as I have always used desktops.
Overall satisfaction, at least look of Red laptop is good, a bit funky.

      • Did you receive the refund and then get offered the laptop? I might consider this laptop, but have already received the refund.

        • +1

No, I refused the refund and asked for a co parable replacement. Tbh it's still not that comparable a device but it's not a bad device and the nearest comparable device is hundreds more, so I think it's probably fair. I am thinking of selling it as mentioned and it should cover my costs for a slate book from the USA so in that way it's fair

    • Care to share the model cpu you got please.

      • The model number is HP Pavilion 11-n035TU x360 available at JbHiFi and CPU I believe is Intel® Pentium® N3530 Processor (2.XXGHz, 2M L2 Cache)

        • Thanks for the details. Not a bad cpu there, should get some money for that as it's a current design with only marginal cpu step, they still sell similar model with the slow Celeron N2830.

  • HP sent me a survey to do on my recent purchase of the Slatebook that I didn't receive. A perfect time to rant I guess. I might even be one of the lucky four to win a $25 gift voucher :P

  • Am still in dispute with HP and have referred the matter to NSW Fair Trading. The essence of their argument (written evidence) is that it was the online sharing on 22/5 that resulted in a rush on orders.

This is what I was told in an email

"The Slatebook 14 had been available on our online store for over 12 months and was about to be discontinued. In order to clear the remaining units we reduced the price to $199 back in April, well before your order for the product. The Slatebook was not part of any special promotion but was simply available as one of the many products on our online store. On Friday the 22nd May, a member of an online community unexpectedly shared a post of their purchase of a HP Slatebook 14. This online post resulted in an unforeseen amount of orders for the HP Slatebook 14. Your order on Saturday 23rd May came in after this timeframe. Unfortunately the product was out of stock at the time of your order over the weekend due to the unforeseen number of orders received immediately prior to your order. Due to a problem with our system exacerbated by the fact that the order was received on a weekend, your order went through our system. "

So essentially they're saying all was okay until it was shared on social media. Therefore, I'd argue anyone who ordered before this date who didn't receive their order, should ask why they didn't receive the product and probably approach your consumer body also. There's a total gap between what they've told people in written and oral forms.

Will report back when the matter is resolved.
