        • @empty456:

Quite possible that they have not been activated yet? Or does it show transactions? Defo give them a ring asap.

  • I will contact Woolworths to clarify I didn't use any of the cards!

  • I checked balance online- https://manage.everydaygiftcards.com.au/

  • So I'm in the category of those who haven't received anything at all yet.

I just spoke to Groupon and I could not get a straight answer from them as to whether they had ever ordered my cards or not. Also the customer service lady didn't have very good English which didn't help so I got a rather garbled and confused explanation.

Anyway she says (I think) that they are now requesting for my cards to be re-sent and I got a ticket/incident number from her.

Anyone else in the same boat may want to call them too. Good luck!

    • Finally got my email and spreadsheet after chasing them today.

    Just got this!!!

Thank you for contacting Woolworths to raise your concerns regarding the recent incident involving Woolworths Group eVouchers.

Woolworths was alerted to a technical fault with the eVouchers purchased by customers via the Groupon website.

Customers who purchased six or more eVouchers (or specified recipients of those eVouchers) were sent a confirmation email containing a link to their own eVoucher, plus the first names, email addresses and links to the eVouchers of other customers who had also purchased (or were the specified recipients of) the eVouchers through Groupon.

No street or postal addresses, phone numbers or any financial details were released.

All eVouchers which formed part of the Groupon offer were cancelled on Saturday 30 May 2015 and new eVouchers were re-issued to affected customers.

Woolworths has notified the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (previously known as the Office of the Australian Privacy Commissioner) about the details of the incident.

Set out below are answers to some of the questions that you may have:

    Which customers are affected?

Customers who purchased Woolworths Group eVouchers via the Groupon website from Saturday 23 May to Tuesday 26 May 2015.

Have my personal details been shared with other customers?

The first names, email addresses and links to eVouchers of affected customers were shared with customers who had purchased six or more eVouchers (or who were specified recipients of those eVouchers). No financial details, street or postal addresses or phone numbers were released.

Can I use the eVoucher I purchased?

All eVouchers which formed part of the Groupon offer have been cancelled and will not work in any store or online. Replacement eVouchers have been re-issued to all affected customers for use in-store or online.

What if I have already spent all or a proportion of my original eVoucher? Can I use the new eVoucher as well?

In the spirit of doing the right thing by our customers, even if you have already spent all or a proportion of your original eVoucher(s), we have not deducted this amount from the replacement eVoucher sent to you. You can therefore spend to the full value of the original eVoucher.

How did this happen and what has been done about it?

A technical systems fault occurred. Woolworths took immediate steps to investigate and resolve the incident and the fault has been rectified.
All original eVouchers have been cancelled and re-issued to their full value.

Woolworths has also notified the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner of the incident.

Who can I contact for more information?

If you have further queries or complaints, you may contact a Woolworths representative by calling 1300 908 631.

If you would like to raise your concerns with someone outside Woolworths or are not satisfied with the response you receive from Woolworths’ representatives, you may like to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

For further information about the OAIC, please visit www.oaic.gov.au

Not using my gift cards before they got cancelled is now my biggest life reget….

      • -1

Could have got a free PS4 package plus more yesterday with my vouchers dammit.

      • +1

The thought had crossed my mind to rush out and spend all my coupons at BigW before they got cancelled or used by someone else (I'm not breaking any laws by using only my coupons) and IF they happened to only re-issue gift cards to those who hadn't spent theirs, I would have simply returned the goods I purchased to BigW for a full refund.

Had I known this would be the outcome, I would have published ALL the coupons online for everybody to cash in before they started cancelling them. It doesn't always pay to be honest.

        • I hope they have at least tried to investigate the scum who used other people's vouchers

        • +1

          @glengood:

Nah that reads to me that they are writing it all off.

        • +1

@glengood: woolworths would rather recoup the loss from the stolen vouchers easily through increase in our grocery bills.

    • +1

Ok, does this actually make sense, see last para bolded.
……In the spirit of doing the right thing by our customers, even if you have already spent all or a proportion of your original eVoucher(s), we have not deducted this amount from the replacement eVoucher sent to you. You can therefore spend to the full value of the original eVoucher.

I got and spent $400, can I now spend the replacement $400….? It's as if I can only spend the original $400….I understand what they are trying to say, I just think that last sentence clarifies nothing????

Note: I was holding the high moral ground and not going to use the new evouchers, as I did cash out the original for cards on Saturday morning,….as I normally do, as if emails ever get hacked etc it's all gone, as has happened in reality.

      • +1

It means if you were able to spend any of the original vouchers before they cancelled them then they won't ask for it back AND you get the full voucher amount reissued.

But this includes those who stole other people's vouchers unfortunately.

        • As I said before, double spend. No way they identify legitimate vs crook spenders.

        • @Nutrino: Wow. That makes it even worse.

        • @Nutrino:

Unless they were dumb enough to scan their Everyday Rewards cards while doing their dodgy purchases… :-)

    • So I had legitimately spent my original ones before they were cancelled. Morally and ethically, I was just going to leave them alone for a few months incase Woolworths decided to audit them and ask for them back, but if they plan on just writing them off, maybe not now.

      • +1

I'm in the same boat. I am awaiting something official that comes out on this direct from Woolworths. eg not just a Q&A posted on a forum

Just to note, apart from the email to those affected which was generic and some news coverage, Woolworths has made no general DIRECT statement to affected customers that their name and email address has been "shared"/"leaked" to other people. There would be some affected that would have no idea yet (they got replacement cards and all is good!). I would be hoping that they will issue another statement soon!

        • +1

I just received the same email as @whodidthis received above. From what I can see, it looks like they are just writing it all off now.

        • @dennis.s.s: Groupon have the same one from Woolworths

  • Still waiting for the second order. Received the first one Sunday night. Anyone? I have logged to groupon and no response either.

  • Apologies if this has already been answered, but has anyone worked out a way to use the BIGW cards online?

    • -1

      You can't.

      • Thanks. Novice question, but can you use the cards to buy eGift cards in-store?

        • You mean buy physical gift cards? If so yes (done it before at Woolworths)

      • Of course you can. Use the code and pin in the voucher.

        • Really?

Online - Not available at BIG W online

        • +1

@StevenC96: I just did this the other day when I got my reissued cards. Mainly to have a physical card. Put them all on 1 Wish Card.

        • @4892:
I know you can convert eGift Card to Physical - I even said I done it before at Woolworths.

    • To answer my own question, you can use the BigW cards with Woolworths Online.

My wife tried using them to buy eGift cards at the local Woolworths: no dice.

  • Rule to remember here is….in the future when you receive groupon egift cards, go straight down and convert them all to physical plastic giftcards!!
Converted all 5 of mine yesterday only because I get tired of having to input the voucher code each time I make a purchase…!

    • I tried at 3 different establishments.. Big W, Masters and Woolies.. they all refuse to do it

On better news, the store manager at Big W indicated to me that an apology gift card is on its way to all affected. An employee at Masters made reference to the same thing.

      • Refused to let you buy a Wish card?

Never had any issues. Just take the card to checkout and when it comes to pay you tell them you are using an eGift. Is this what you did? Or did you ask them to "convert" your eGift card?

        • yeh I did as you say.. no deal

I have done it in the past successfully thou…

        • @knackers:

Just converted $1000 in my local Woollies. No issues whatsoever.

Reckon you are unlucky or just look dodgy. Lol

      • Really? That's really good news.

      • Another e gift card? Not sure if they have our mailing address?

        • Quite possibly.. I did see a 2 page memo outlining how best to deal with customer complaints in relation to the breach. I'm guessing this same memo went out to all Masters, Woolies and Big W stores.

        • @knackers: so do I have to complain again to get it? I've complained twice so far, and already got email responses towing the party line… Only leaked email addresses and first names, take the glitch very seriously, already reported to some regulatory type body, if you have more complaints, contact so and so…

        • @amelyn: I only made 1 complaint on Saturday night (day of the breach)

      • An apology gift card? thats good news.

Yes, no problem to have the plastic card with the e gift card. You can tell the staff you are worried about the account safety in not converting to plastic card because of this incident.

  • I've got a complaint number and they are following up and it has been escalated to a senior complaints officer, I called back today to follow up and they said they are still getting around to it due to a high number of complaints it may take awhile but she emailed the officer directly to contact me asap.

  • I rang Woolworths today because I didn't get my second order. A lady rang me back and took some more details but still not solved.

  • Thank you for your feedback, and again I do apologise for the inconvenience this matter has caused. Woolworths has notified the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (previously known as the Office of the Australian Privacy Commissioner) about the details of the incident, and have provided them with all the details of the matter for their review.

As a gesture of goodwill, I will be sending you a $40 BIG W eVoucher, which you should receive within the next hour via email.

    • true to form it didn't come within an hour

      • +1

        it arrived overnight.. it's a $40 eGiftcard

        • Did you email them or something mate? Not happy at all with this. Especially given that they don't seem to be even going after the crooks. They still have all our details.

        • +1

@dins: Yes, emailed them on the day of the breach

        • @knackers: Cheers mate :)

    • How big was your order?

      • I didn't mention the order value in my complaint

  • I just got a call from the complaints officer just saying he is touching base and they are still dealing with the privacy commissioner and that my case will remain open for now, I also asked for some compensation to this matter and was told he can't help me with that but if I have something specific in mind to tell him and he will put through a request. I asked for $200 and he said he will request it and I will hear within 1-5 working days. Maybe I should of asked for more lol who knows. Anyway will update once I hear something.

    • Any email or contact number to make a complaint?

    • +2

Wow… Why not ask for $1000, or even $10k?

  • One of the cards they sent me in invalid!!!

  • I really wish I took this offer. I'm down to my last $300 from the last 7.5% off BigW gift card deal via Entertainment Book, and with this debacle it doesn't seem like Groupon or Woolworths will be doing another one of these until they sort out the serious privacy issues they have.

  • One of the ozbargin member Gemma Jones <[email protected]> took advantage of the almost 8000 leaked emails by sending all of us an email below,

I am conducting research into workplace behaviours as part of my Psychology Honours Year at the University of New England in Armidale, NSW.
I am seeking research participants who are 18 or over and have worked for 12 months or more to complete a survey that will take approximately 15 minutes.
If you are interested in participating please click on the link below to access more information about the survey.

    • Totally wondered where that came from out of the blue. ffs!

    • +1

      Got it too, not happy.

    • Was wondering who this Gemma Jones was. Got the email on Sunday too.
      She's on facebook https://www.facebook.com/gemma.jones.71697092?fref=ts

    • yes, i received too. On both my registered email with e gift card.

      Serious leak….

    • Does Gemma Jones in the e gift card spreadsheet list?

      • yes

        • Is it in the spreadsheet 6 or more times?

        • +1

          @Coops1:
No, only the once but that doesn't mean much. We all know most true OzBargainers have many different aliases and many different email addresses at their disposal

        • But, @Tight-ass
if she's only in the spreadsheet once as buying one gift card then that pokes massive holes in Woolworths claim that only people who bought more than 5/6 gift cards were sent the spreadsheet….

    • +3

Should be banned from the ozbargain community 😈

    • How do you know she is an ozbargainer?

      • Read above comments.

        • +1

I did. It's mentioned by "Bargainer" but it doesn't mean that, that is true? What I'm saying is, she clearly is in the same mailing list, means she is a Groupon user, not necessarily an ozbargain member.

    • Has anybody contacted her yet to ask what right she thinks she has to send an email out to everyone courtesy of the details on the spreadsheet?

    • -4

On the 7th June 2015 I unknowingly received a number of contacts from a Woolworths Groupon email of 1st June 2016 and some of the contacts were automatically and inadvertently added to the contact list I was using to recruit participants for my research project on workplace behaviour. There was no deliberate intention on my part to use the Woolworths contact list. If you received such a request to participate in the research, could you please delete this email and accept my sincerest apologies for the mix up and any distress or inconvenience this may have caused you. I can assure you that your details have been removed from any and all contact lists and that you do not need to be concerned about receiving any further correspondence as a result of this error.
      Gemma Jones

      • +4

"automatically and inadvertently" - LOL likely story. They just magically "jumped" from an Excel spreadsheet into your e-mail client's addressbook. Uh-huh.

      • +1

What is your real OzBargain ID? This one was created on 24/06/2015
I thought you could only have one ID?

  • +6

For those of you who received an email from Gemma Jones courtesy of the WW spreadsheet, make sure you lodge a complaint to her supervisor Dr Ian Price [email protected] or 02 6773 2653 to voice your concerns about her using this data for her own benefit without any authorisation to do so.

You can also put a complaint through to the University's 'Research Ethics Officer' at the same time via email [email protected] or 02 6773 3449

    • Thanks Tight-Ass, I only received the email off her tonight so clearly she's going through the whole list sending it out…

      Complaints sent!

      • There is a limit to how many recipients you can send to in the one email…..with Telstra Bigpond I believe its a few hundred. There's also a limit on the total number of emails you can send out in a single day with ISP's……..the reason for which is to stop people (like Gemma) from sending out unsolicited emails (SPAM) en masse.

So therefore she can't send an email to all those on the spreadsheet in one hit/day thankfully. Which probably explains why you've only just received it.

  • received the email too. Does woollies say anything regarding to this ?

  • I received the survey email too :(

    • Yeah, it appeared in my junk mail folder yesterday. However, I'm pretty sure I wasn't one of the people listed in the original Woolworths Excel… I only ordered a $200 gift card. Thought the spreadsheet only contained a list of people who had high value orders?

      • Spreadsheet had everyone's orders. Only people who ordered big received the spreadsheet.

        • Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification.

    • +4

Because if nobody cared enough to call out individuals for doing it, next thing you know every Tom, Dick or Harry with a supposedly "legitimate" purpose (be it academic or activist or whatever) will think that it's OK to spam every mailing list they get their hands on, and before long you're not just deleting one email but hundreds.

  • Lily's florist… Anyone get an email from them?

  • CashRewards cashback denied! Anyone else?

    • same

      • are you going to contact them or just let it slide..?

  • My cashRewards for this transaction x2 is showing Declined without comment

  • +1

Lately I've experienced a great deal of good luck, I've had several lottery wins for lotteries I never entered and inherited money from people I never heard of. Of course I cannot prove that Woolies is my lucky charm but I was never lucky before the spreadsheet was sent out.

    • I agree. What I am doing is saving the email addresses of these junk emails, and I am going to input those email addresses in and apply for 'crap'. That way they will get bombarded with junk. Sweet Revenge!!
