      • I had my cashback cancelled from DWI for no reason…

*Note: Any manufacturing fault related to cracking issue will not be covered by DWI Warranty Policy.

    Are they exempt from ACL?

    • Nope. Where does it say that?

        • Well exclusion clauses regarding warranty are void under ACL, so that's that.

"Conditions and warranties implied and the rights and remedies created by the Australian Consumer Law cannot be excluded – see Schedule 2 Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), s 64A. Any attempt to do so is made void by the terms of the Act, and makes the company liable to prosecution under the Act."

        • +2

          @spaghettiman:

How does ACL apply to a non-Australian entity?

As far as I can tell, DWI are a HK company that sells goods online to individuals who then (technically) become the importers of the goods (this is how the GST is avoided).

So if they dudded someone in violation of ACL, then who would prosecute them and where would they do it?

        • @GordonR: The ACL applies to anyone selling into Australia. The catch is nobody is going to enforce it - too expensive, too much hassle and not really any point. Ditto with trying to claim your own rights through a consumer tribunal - even if you win (and you will because they're just not gonna front), they're just going to ignore it.

Get Craig Reucassel from 'The Checkout' to chase DWI up. He ignored their referral to Sony's dodgy practice as an excuse and sorted out a leaky Xperia Z3 for a bloke just last night! ;-)

        • +1

@GordonR: Not true - they are an Australian company with an Australian ABN.

See TRUDARK PTY. LIMITED ABN 58 003 759 662, specifically to Digital World International ABN 58 003 759 662 of which, Trudark Pty Ltd is a holder.

Interesting. The only thing on their website (that I could find) was this sentence at the bottom of the T&Cs.

DWI and dwidigitalcameras.com.au are the trading names for Digital World International incorporated in Hong Kong.

The Checkout already ran a piece about DWI trying to shirk away from their consumer duties last night on FUtube. It's not uploaded yet onto their youtube channel but you can watch it here:
      http://iview.abc.net.au/programs/checkout/

    • +1

If you ask me you should just ignore any wording related to warranty as it's there to mislead you only in order to steer you away from the ACL process (where the business does not control the options they must take by law) and lull you into thinking your only option is to exercise a warranty that grants you less protection (which is clearly not in the consumers interest)

      • +4

Unfortunately, DWI didn't listen to either the ACCC or the NSW Department of Fair Trading.. so the only option left after going to The Checkout was to take them to tribunal - which is expensive and you can't recover the costs of making an application/attending a hearing.

The Telecommunications Ombudsman can't help because it's not a phone that you purchased as part of a service.

    • eglobal says the same. first issues of the G3 had problems with a crack happening there, dont think it was major though.

The LG Virtual Reality Headset is only worth $15 so not a big deal really….

      Just looks like Google Cardboard.

      • yeah not the fancy ones like the Gear VR or the Zeiss

    • See my comment above, $15 at DWI….

    Don't buy from dwi
Ordered a samsung from them recently
A day later sent me email saying it was out of stock and that it would be in stock in 2-4 days later. So total shipping time to au would be nearly 2 weeks I predict.
Funny when I ordered it said the phone was in stock ready to ship.
    Tricksters

    • +4

Thanks you just helped me make a decision!

      • +3

No problems, glad I can warn some buyers about them.
So dodgy how they listed the phone as in stock ready to ship when I ordered
But in fact its out of stock !

If you need more help, watch tonight's episode of "The Checkout" (at 22:18) with the Sony Z3 customer.

        Series 3 Episode 8

    • Had the worst experience a few years ago buying a DSLR from these guys. Highly recommend you avoid.

As for this deal, the D858 is a G3, just dual SIM….absolutely no deal for it….on top of that, it's among the worst listed price for a grey import AND i haven't even added shipping yet? Terrible effort DWI. Not half bad price, but I wouldn't stake any quality service claims with these people.

      http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/LG-G3-D858-3GB-RA…

    • Sadly had a similar experience trying to buy a g3 & zenfone… Paid for express shipping, didn't expect to get it til over a week later(excluding a weekend too)

  • This phone better than the Asus ZenFone 2 posted not long ago?

    • +2

Yes, this has flagship specs - 1440p, 4k rec

      • -1

Less ram, older Android, etc etc….

        It's not totally better

        • +1

Last time I looked, Lollipop on a G3 is just as recent as Lollipop on a ZenFone…

  • The 128GB Card is $132 alone on their site

    The watch is $409

  • good deal.. wonder how slow the micro SD card is? 30 or 48?

    • 48mb/s

    • It says it's 48. SanDisk would be the best brand you could ask for

  • +5

Keep clear of these guy's…… They are dodgy

    • Did u get stun with the out of stock trick as well?

      • Yeah I did.

        • How long did it take for your order to arrive ?

  • +2

For the record I've bought several expensive items from DWI and haven't had a problem, actually was impressed they use free express shipping as standard (~3 day delivery).

  • +1

Was going to buy a $1500 camera from these guys.. but reviewing their feedback, there was just too many people saying to avoid so I pulled the pin

    • +1

Their camera sales were perfectly fine. Bought from them for the past 3 years, everytime arrive ion 3 business days with FedEx.
Not sure why but they always screwed up the mobile sales.

    • Yep. Bought Canon DSLR from these guys a few years back, worst experience/deal ever.

    • Thats the lower specced "Beat" version the G3.

Was going to post this deal but it has been cheaper in the past and DWI has been known to have poor feedback.

    • This is G3 Beat which is vastly different from normal G3.

    • Thats the LG G3 beat seems everyone gets tricked by that haha

  • +1

The LG beat is a crap. (we sell these for $329 at my work, and have for last 5 months but the g3 16gb /2gb ram aka Australian g3 is mediocre, but mine had minor issues and I preferred my LG g2, but I picked up a lg g3 32gb/3g aka grey import (same one as DWI is selling here) and it was little better then last g3 I own, all in all I recommend this phone for the price. But be wary of DWI and receiving faulty stock and trying to get your money back as happened with me once.

    • Thats the risk you take getting grey stock. Risk vs Return at the end of the day. I don't understand why the 16gb/2gb ram is mediocre compared the 32gb/3 gb ram. 1gb ram can't possibly make that much difference in the scheme of things on Android.

      • That 1gb ram does make allot of difference. People reported lagging on the 2gb and fixed on the 3 gb. People suspect it is due to the high res screen which makes it better with more ram.

        • People are guenuinely hopeless at assessing performance differences in computers: it's common to see speed increases (where there are none measured), slowdowns (again, non-existent when measured), increases or slowdowns in boot speeds (where there are none).

In short that's why we use benchmarks: we cannot reliably assess machine performance not least because we manufacture what we expect to see and that's what we percieve even if there's no change or an opposite change to what we're expecting.

      • I didn't want to believe it either. I looked at benchmarks and 2gb/3gb comparison reviews, all of which were mixed.

So, I have a gold 2gb G3, and my girlfriends pink 3Gb completely trumps it. There are just so many unexplaiable lags on the 2Gb. I have a custom ROM, I use Nova, and I run things pretty lean, but it just lags.

Go the 3Gb and ditch the standard LG launcher (it varies from smooth to rough depending on which software version is installed).

The difference is definitely 'human noticable'.

  • Guys need to realise that even the LG G2 is still a beast (running Android L), and still operates like a champ compared to current-day top-spec phones. On that note, the LG G3 is a bigger beast, and you can only imagine what the G4 is like (on par with S6 minus the camera).

  • -1

Probably the Qhd screen using extra ram.

The g2 should offer better performance than the g3.

  • +1
    • G3 is a way better phone, and cheaper.

    • To put it bluntly, tge One Plus is a cheaper alternative to the more expensive high end phones (last year's).

It's essentially like the Nexus 4 among the Galaxy s4s, HTC One m7s and iPhone 4s'.

    • Take the G3, I have the Oneplus and I'm scared to update it because of so many issues.

  • Can't seem to get it in black..

  • Stock in black if you buy it with the urbane.

  • Would have jumped on it if it had the rose gold urbane

  • Purchased!

  • +3

DWI is NOT a trustworthy seller. They sell a lot of faulty products. Negging this.

Their previous sale were all defective S5s.

    • The s5's aren't faulty… they were just rooted to avoid all the bloatware from the stock au phone.

I unrooted mine and wow, so so so much crap

If u unroot urs, u will understand why they had no choice.

Think its like 20 or 30 extra useless apps

  • I had a bad experience ordering my LG G3 from DWI (they didn't ship the product for 4 days), but was able to cancel successfully. Ordered elsewhere with no issue

  • +3

I'm hovering on the trigger. If there's another deal soon from anyone other than DWI and without extras and the phone is about $380 delivered. BANG!! :)

  • Ordered nearly midnight Thursday.
Just received the phone and watch now. Regular post too.
No complaints on speed of delivery!

  • +1

Bought it on Friday morning from DWI and got my LG G3 this morning. Only took two days ship from Hong Kong to Brisbane, thumbs up for DWI.

  • Ordered mine last Thursday, didn't receive until yesterday (Thursday). The parcel got transferred to Australia Post from DHL, got stuck in airport for an entire day…could have picked up myself…
The phone is great! Works perfectly! The only tiny thing is that the back cover is a bit dirty out of box, but everything is gone after a simple wipe. Thumbs up for DWI!
