I would strongly suggest that you do a search on Vaya and read the comments posted previously on OzBargain. In my view they have very unethical business practices and ways to squeeze money out of customers in anyway they can.

CS is poor at best! but if you dont go over your cap, and don't need them for anything, they're great, for the price…

You neg a valid deal because you dont like the company?
      Poor form.

I don't think that's true. They have a lot of "errors" in their bills which funnily enough always favour them.

They also changed plans on me without warning twice and only reversed this after I got the TIO involved.

I'll give it a negative vote because you'll almost certainly end up paying more than the advertised rate.

Sounds like a valid reason to neg from a personal experience.

i agree that you shouldn't neg Vaya for being a questionably ethical company. However, it's not just the 2 days lag on data usage reporting or them rounding kilobytes to megabytes or the magical $10 extra a month "bullshit we made up" fee. Its the way they do business on top of all those things that makes Vaya what it is.

Vaya are a lousy provider. I hate to say it, Vaya aren't the worst internet based business I've dealt with (* cough ) Groupon ( cough *). But I don't neg those jerk's deals either. Just warn the users.

    24 month contract.
Source: top of the page in Your Link

    • I don't think it is, delivery is normally free on 24month deals or $20 if taking a month by month deal. That is what is free for the month of June

      • I think your right, looking at more details section;
        Term, 1-24months.
But I was with with them before, scorched like others in bills, and poor customer service…
It maybe a free month, but i'll pass on trying.

    • Incorrct. Month to month. Read it carefully. It says it's free for JUNE. It's free anytime if u choose 24 month contract

Vaya are a nightmare to deal with.
Just not worth it in terms of stress and wasted time.
Sorry OP appreciate you writing it up, but this is an honest call about the company itself.
    Avoid avoid avoid.

    • Sorry I agree, I have been burned too - too many strings for the 1 "free" month. you can do a lot better with another MVNO.

I have just begun the process of porting out of Vaya. Sure, they seem cheaper in their prices, but the overcharge you all the time, and you would end up paying more than competitors. The last three bills they overcharged me, and the process to get them to fix it is so frustrating. I could probably list about 10 experiences in the past 5 months that have shown how poor their customer service is.

    • Its strange because in my experience, I've had a couple of years totally hassle free. Never been overcharged and never had issues with the network. As mentioned above, if you dont have the need to call them you'll most likely be fine.

      • +2

I was the same for years, and one day I had a $40 charge for no apparent reason.
Took 4 months to get the refund and hours and hours on the phone to get it back!

That said, i'm with telechoice, and have yet to have one bill that matches my cap.
        Mms not included is BS!

Not worth it. Absolutely woeful company.

  • I've been with vaya for 2 years. Hardly had a bad experience. Got overcharged when they changed their plans but it all got refunded the next month with one email. I think their issues sometimes derived from the fact they don't have a lot of staff on board so they struggle with dealing with many issues. But end of the day it's the trade off for having dirt cheap 4g service. Otherwise pay a Telstra or an Optus or voda for their overheads and have no issues. Hrmmm wait a min…

If anybody gets a free month I will be amazed… At best you might not get charged an extra month for no reason.

Check Whirlpool or previous OzBargain comments to make an informed decision before you go anywhere near this company. Last I read the ACCC is launching an investigation against them for systemic overcharging. I personally had to involve the TIO twice just to leave this woeful company and get my money back.

Your sanity is not worth a $20 saving.

Vaya is probably the worst telcom to deal with at the moment, avoid like Plague!!

      avoid like Plague!!

      :D

  • I know ozbargain has a lot of reason to dislike vaya but I've personally had a pretty good experience dealing with them. I had my account overcharged once at their fault. I emailed them to find out why and how my bill doubled. They got back to me within 10 mins, and refunded the charge. Super simple stuff.
But maybe I'm a minority here

If only they were that competent. All I did was ask to change plan when the introduced the plan freeze fee from the old $17 plan to the new $18 plan. Started billing me twice every month, plus charging me the freeze fee on top of that. Took 6 months and three complaints to the TIO for them to sort it out.

I have always been an advocate of Vaya and always fought off the negative voters by saying that value-wise they are still the best (and I still believe this is the case). It's also because I never had any major issues with them (similar experience to cpho I guess - i.e. one or two issues here or there, I would email/call and get it resolved very quickly)

However, I am personally going through a bit of a battle with them at the moment. I must say that their practices are a bit suspicious. I feel they have deliberately overcharged in the hope that customers don't pick up on it, and they just pocket it as profit.

How difficult it is at the moment to get back the money, I'm not sure as yet because I myself am still trying to get a clearer picture of what's been charged.

Having said all this, like I said in paragraph one, they are still probably the best value for money. You can't get $18/month, $650 credit and 1.5GB data from anyone else.

    • If in doubt get the TIO complaint started… I got nowhere with them until I started that … Even then they left it until the very last minute and then cancelled all extra charges off my account.

      • Just to confirm, the "overcharging" was me misreading the bill.
        It was my mistake.. LOL

  • Vaya is cancer, don't do it..

  • I can see that the Vaya page says that "$20 Delivery - Free for June!", but where does it say the first month is free? Or how do I get that month free? Thanks.

Doesn't seem to be any mention of it on the actual sign up page either.

    • Ignore that. Found it.

      As you were.
