Once there was an elephant,
Who tried to use the telephant—
No! No! I mean an elephone
Who tried to use the telephone—
(Dear me! I am not certain quite
That even now I’ve got it right.)
Howe’er it was, he got his trunk
Entangled in the telephunk;
The more he tried to get it free,
The louder buzzed the telephee—
(I fear I’d better drop the song
Of elephop and telephong!)

  • Gotta say it's a good price

Unlocked for Worldwide use. Compatible with elephants.

    Thank you for confirming this.

  • Does it have dual SIM?

  • +1

Does it work with optus 4g?

    • I would like to know this also, if yes, I will bite….
      Found this on Optus site:
"Our 4G Plus network uses multiple frequencies (LTE 700 / 1800 / 2100 / 2300 / 2600 MHz) to provide coverage. Your coverage availability will vary depending on your device and location. Check coverage at optus.com.au/coverage based on your address and device".
So this phone is missing 700 and 2300 but should still work on 1800, 2100, 2600, just not sure if missing 700 is a big deal?
This article is pretty good at explaining The status of 4G LTE networks in Australia:
      http://www.computerworld.com.au/article/433391/updated_4g_au…

      • +1

700 is a pretty big deal here. Both Optus and Telstra are using it for their superfast networks.

      • +5

700 is the old television frequencies that they have flogged off to Telstra and Optus for a heap of cash (rather than giving you, say, HD Freeview TV and some more channels).

Basically it's a 'nice to have'. Most older 4G phones don't have it, but still work fine on the original frequencies.

    • Got these specs from the manufacturers website .
      Band
      2G
      GSM: Band 2/3/5/8 (850/900/1800/1900)

      4G LTE
      LTE-FDD: Band 1/3/7/20 (800/1800/2100/2600)

Copiy and pasted from whirlpool forums .
      Carrier Operators

      Optus (2G 900 / 3G: 900 & 2100 / 4G: 700, 1800, 2100

      • +1

The Whirlpool stuff helps, but the critical thing is the bands. Just because a network and a device has the same frequencies, doesn't mean they will work together.

If they have the same band and are the same technology type (ie FDD) they will work together.

As others have said, not having band 28 is a major disadvantage for a new phone. Also this will be crap on the Telstra 3G network.

      • So does this confirm it can handle Telstra 4G?

        • not so great with most of Telstra's 4G, as it is increasingly 700

  • +4

I'll plus this deal if you remove any trace of that poem from my memory

  • +15

    +vote for the elepoem

  • no 4G on 850?

  • +1

plus one for the deal, but not the poem sorry.

  • +2

How is firmware stability? Is it reliable? My Chinese THL phone kept on restarting randomly several times a day.

    • And I thought it was just mine only (if you're talking about the W8). Flashed different ROMS but random crashes and ultimately bootloop really put me off.

I guess with Chinese phones it's a hit or miss. Some gets lucky like Infinite below, but others are the other end of the statistics.

Build is quite on par with many Telstra branded phones, screen is amazing, but just a little hardward issue (maybe a bad RAM sector) could kill the experience.

      • My W8 is still running generally ok.

  • +4

    Doesn't support 850mhz 3g - so won't be any good for aldi/telechoice/boost customers.

  • That's a pretty good price. Does the dual sim feature support Data at the same time? (Able to receive multimedia messages etc. simultaneously). Also, is it good with Boost and TPG networks?

    Thank you :)

    • What networks does boost/TPG use?

I think your boost question was answered the post just above..

      • TPG use Optus

      • and Boost use Telstra :)

    • Anyone knows if both sims are 4G or 4g for one and 2G for the other? Thanks

  • AUD prices seem to be for display only, checkout is in USD (well when checked with PayPal checkout anyway. Is it the same through the site?)

    • Did you find a way around this? It went for $146 delivered to $159 when paying through paypal

      • Pay in $US with something that has a better exchange rate… like a 28degrees MC

        • Yer but then you dont have paypal protection and you are giving a Chinese shop your creditcard details.

To me I would rather pay the odd $10 for paypal

        • @Roary: Still use paypal, just pay in US$ with the 28deg MC

  • +12

    Compatible with elephants.

So trunk calling shouldn't be a problem?

  • +12

Phones like this, the MI brand, and also other Chinese made, really make Apple/Samsung phones look like they are 1st. class thieves,,,,,,,

NEVER again will I buy a rip off phone

    • +1

Are you for or against cheap Chinese phones?

    • +6

Well you pay extra for a better design, components, software stability and features, support, warranty, quality testing, marketing, branding & a lot more. I've had cheap Chinese phones before and they can be absolute crap with no support and random problems with hardware and software.
So you get what you pay for. For something you use everyday it's better to pay extra for a phone that you know you can rely on.

      • +3

This is true, just that Samsung/Apple have gone overboard with prices, but then again if the punters want to be raped they get that

NEVER buy a bottom feeder, the gold is in the middle somewhere

YES, I like Chinese electronics, they are the new Japan

        • +5

…but without the built in culturally ingrained attention to quality.

The product from China isn't anything like the quality of products from Japan.

        • +1

understandable, but your average joe wants some sort of support behind the product they purchase. I doubt the service here would be good enough for a typical user out there to feel confident in the purchase.

Which is where LG, Sam, HTC and of course Apple justify the costs of the phones. Apple you pay for the fact you can walk in with an issue and walk out with a replacement phone.. :) not sure if Sammy can match that yet but at the new prices i surely hope they do..hehehe

I for instance am happy to get one if i choose to because im into phones and have been since the stylus days of win 5/6 versions of smartphones :) IT background helps a lot to build the confidence in investing in tech with little or no support :)

        • -5

          Chinese electronics?

Sub par quality and support worldwide, and copies of Japanese, Korean and American electronics using stolen technology.

        • +1

I view it as: South Korea is the new Japan, whilst China is the rising future South Korea

    • +4

IMO Apple can be "thanked" for the prices. Their iStuff prices set the bar - why would Samsung et al price their stuff much lower when Apple already conditioned consumers to what's "normal?"

When Apple charge $100 for an extra 16GB of memory and people accept it then it's not surprising the other makers want to get on the bandwagon.

  • Is this pre-installed with Lollipop? Can anyone who has bought it recently confirm?
Apparently had a few issues on early models with Kit Kat installed.

    • id expect a phone at this price to have a few issue's regardless of the OS on it :)

    • clicking on the deal the site says its 5.0 :)

      • No, it actually says Android 5.0 (Lollipop) but I just wanted someone who has bought one to confirm:
        "Elephone P6000 Android 5.0 4G LTE Smartphone"

        • This is what it says on the site, so i assume someone has it with 5.0 :)

          Kindly Reminder:
Only 64bit smartphone will be able to upgrade to Android 5.0 OS, Firmware will be available in February, 2015 and Elephone P6000 will be updated to Android 5.0 OS then.

        • @scud70: If you click on the Product Discussion tab, you will see this, it is the second comment:

Reply : Hi, thanks for your inquiry.
This cellphone will comes with Android 5.0.

        • @billy_bob: sorry i screwed up my wording :) im saying a similar thing ..hehehe

Of all the names they could have used for their brand, they chose Elephone….can't decide if it's worse than one of my previous Chinaphone's, the Dodgy phone (or Doogee as they spell it).

I'm sure you've heard of Ainol?

I'd personally get P7000 just for the extra 850 3G, 1080P screen, 1 GB of extra RAM, 3400mah big battery, better MT6752 CPU and touch based fingerprint censor. Good for ~AU$200 if you can get it at that price like I did.

    • The question is:
Have you actually received your phone yet?

      • It's just been released like a few days ago.. so probably still a month till I get it.

        • +1

…& the US$159 price is long gone & unlikely to be repeated. Great buying, but not really a relevant comparison to this when the price is now double that of the P6000.

        • It's not long gone though, still going.

        • … accidental post

        • +3

@clse945111: Where is the deal still going at US$159

        • See elephone.hk

        • @clse945111: I gotta say that looks like an absolutely beautiful phone, especially for the price…

        • @clse945111: which of those stores are most reliable?

        • @teehee:
          Geekbuying
          Pandawill
          Focalprice
          Everbuying

I've bought from these and all seemed to be pretty ok. Just don't expect any warranty claims or doa claims though, they're all useless.

    • +3

where did you buy yours clse945111

      got a link?

      • +2

i ordered the elephone p7000 from geekbuying.com as there was another deal for it on ozbargain. (cost me $US199 shipped via DHL)

just received an email saying it's been shipped and should arrive tomorrow (fingers crossed!)

Latest video reviews on youtube look good.

        • Please let us know your opinion of the phone. I am interested in this phone and would rather rely on real people's review.

        • +4

          @ms:

          I received the P7000 today.

I haven't had a chance to play with it much but initial things i notice (comparing to my LG G2 and friend's Galaxy S6 edge):
          - Screen of P7000 is really dim on max brightness
          - Screen has a pink colour tinge. I assume it's just the colour profile rather than manufacturing defect
          - Antutu benchmark only got 27000 which is less than my LG G2!!! Other videos somehow show it get 42000
          - Performance actually seems fine. Not slow, not really much stutter during gaming
          - Build quality is fairly solid and good finish
          - It looks fairly thick but in reality it's the same thickness of my LG G2 at 8.9mm
          - Phone doesn't feel overly big and is still comfortable to hold
          - Battery is heavy which hopefully means it's a legitimate 3450mAH cell.
          - Camera quality was disappointing. For an f2.0 lens the low light pictures are not that clear. The noise reduction does funny things with sharpness so that sharp edges now look like fuzzy soft toys! I believe software updates should fix this
          - My OTA update function is broken. It detects and update but wont apply it because it says there's somethign wrong with my phone's system. This probably just means i'm running the wrong build so it's not compatible. My phone is 100% stock.
          - There is zero bloatware. The preinstalled software is so lacking it doesn't even have hte standard google apps. But that's ok because it has Play store installed.

Feel free to ask me any questions and i'll do my best to give you an honest opinion.

        • @edrift: Do you know how it compares to the P6000 and is it worth the extra money?

Did anyone get a P7000 on the elephone.hk sale for $159USD?

        • +2

          @onetwothree:

The P7000 is roughly $A100 more than the P6000 which percentage wise is a lot, but dollar wise not huge (maybe a day's wages if you're on minimum wage?)

I think it's worth the extra $100 because:
          - you get 3gb ram vs 2gb (this puts it into the flagship league)
          - octacore vs quad core (twice as better? probably not, but possibly better than worse)
          - 1080p screen would be much better than 720p
          - better selfie cam (if that's your thing. But it does seem significantly better than the 2MP crap on my LG G2)
          - big battery on the p7000
          - fingerprint scanner gimmick? though it's actually useful and the placement at the back makes a lot more sense than puttign it on the front button.

Assuming the phone doesn't break (well both P6000 and P7000 basically have zero warranty unless you trust these overseas resellers), then the P7000 is likely to last longer in terms of its usefulness given the upgraded specs.

        • @edrift: thank you, very helpful but I'm still on the fence. I don't use my current phone much - only really to text my wife during the day and play a few games. I currently have a Sony Xperia Sola and it's useless, it freezes all the time and I have to turn it off and on again often. Hmmm decisions decisions.

        • +2

          @onetwothree:

if you're not a heavy user of your phone then just get the p6000. It'll be much better than the Sola.

Elephone seem to have proven they know how to build phones. If the P7000 is a reflection of the quality of their other phones then i think the P6000 should be fine for most users.

        • @edrift:
          Thanks for the response.

There is a few things that are bit concerning…

Screen of P7000 is really dim on max brightness

How does it compare to your G2?

My OTA update function is broken. It detects and update but wont apply it because it says there's somethign wrong with my phone's system.

How do you intend to overcome this? Are there any custom rom's available for this phone?

Regarding the camera quality, that doesn't bother me too much.

So in your view, is it worth spending money or not?

        • @ms:

Screen brightness is a personal preference I guess. So far I've only used the phone indoors and not in direct sunlight. For this, it's perfectly fine and plenty bright enough.
Outdoors I will wait and see if it's good enough. Having said that, even my old Samsung galaxy s3 was not great in sunlight.

The OTA update was fixed by a manual flash

  • Have been really stunned in the last year or two at the quality and build of the THL and Elephone china droids. They absolutely make anything sold commercially here in Oz at anything even close to under $200 look like a Cleveland Steamer in comparison, feature & value-wise.

I've brought in the THL L969 ($110), THL 4000 ($130), Elephone P6000 ($130) and the THL 5000 ($300) for myself & work mates. I recharge the THL 5000 that I use heavily for work only once in almost every two weeks - the batteries in these phones are just godly. Have had the L969 and 5000 for about a year now & no complaints or bugs at all. Workmates have been very pleased with the other phones I mentioned, especially the Elephone.

    • +1

Totally agreed, for the cost of an overpriced top of the range Samsung or iPhone phones, I can keep spoiling myself with the latest China droids phones and passing on my not too old but still perfectly working phones to family or friends for at least the next 2 years. I am currently using Xiaomi and Meizu phones and is waiting for my new Elephone P7000 from Allbuy to arrive soon.

      • +1

        @ntongeng How much u paid for P7000??

        • My bro picked up the phone via the last Ozbargain sale listing for it, for about $220 (AU) including postage - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/193888

        • +1

Was lucky to get it @ USD159.99 with Allbuy conversion rate to AUD199.84 (very good exchange rate) during the first flash sales on 13th May. Paid with PayPal and has organised with Allbuy to ship via DHL. Just been informed by Allbuy that the phone is now with DHL so should get it hopefully by Friday or Monday.

        • +1

          @infinite:
@ AUD220 delivered was a very good deal. A relative overseas has asked me to get him one but has not been too lucky at those weekly flash sales since my lucky break on 13th May. Might just grab one when this same deal comes back. So, thanks for the info.

      • Yea, Xiaomi and Meizu are also both great examples of really good China Droids, as well. They both offer some unreal value & quality handsets for $100-$300.

        • +1

Bought the Xiaomi Redmi 2 for my daughter when she lost her old phone (my old iphone 4). She absolutely loves it (had been complaining about the performance of the old iphone) and I'm very impressed at how good it is for the $190 I paid. Only 8GB internal memory but I got a 32GB SD card for it thanks to Ozbargain.

  • Woah this phone can run World of Warcraft?
    Im so in.

  • Elephone? sounds much better than Ainol!

NO 3G 850mhz is the big killer for me. Otherwise a good cheap phone.

  • -3

  • +1

Great phone, had mine for a month now. No problems with 4g and 3g service on Optus with Amaysim. Came with lollipop installed.
Fantastic value, wish I had the chance to buy it at this price.

  • +1

Great phone. Bought it for my wife a month ago from http://www.vickmall.com/ for about $200 delivered (with 16gb card and cheap cover).

The only thing she's complained about is she wants more battery life. It gets to about 30% in the evening with only normal/light use during the day (with battery saving turned on). It came with Lollipop.

    • These are pretty standard suggestions but turning the screen brightness to low, turning off WiFi when not needed and using a power bank can really help.

      • +1

The power bank suggestion is really a remedy and not a prevention, but your other suggestions are good (although standard like you said).
Although I think turning data off when not needed is probably more effective than turning Wi-Fi off.

Other tips: Turn off GPS, Bluetooth. Consider using battery saving apps (my experience so far with them has been erratic)
