Sherlock (BBC) Seasons 1-3 Blu-Ray $35.98 @ JB Hi-Fi in 20% off ABC/BBC Sale

120

JB Have a 20% off ABC and BBC titles at the moment. Did a quick look and to get the same set from Amazon UK is $45AUD after shipping.

EDIT: Also worth mentioning is that this release has been (I think) replaced by the Limited Edition Version Which might explain why it's cheaper. Limited Edition has an additional disc if you want to pay the extra $12 for it.

If you haven't watched it yet (and why not??), please note there are only 3 episodes per season. They are pretty much movie length though and are really good so this shouldn't stop you from purchasing at all.

  • Note that it's on Netflix, too.

    • Not AU?

      • Sorry, you're right:

It's on about 20 regions, but AU isn't one of them.

A yearly subscription to a region-unlocker like getflix will cost less than this set.

Netflix isn't blu-ray quality (at least for screens over 50 inches and decent home theatre sound) but still…

          It's on Stan in Australia

        • @durd0008: Now that I could get surround sound and HD for this, Stan's better than Blu-ray.

    • I haven't tried the streaming sites. How's the movie quality? Are they as good as blu-ray?

Are they as good as blu-ray?

If you're watching on a laptop, then "yes".

If you're on a brand name 1080p (or even 720p) projector, or a proper surround sound system, then "no".

Anything in between, like a high-end 60inch TV, is a "maybe". Depends on you.

I consider myself a snob when it comes to image quality, but have to admit Netflix looks OK on everything but the most visually spectacular films (like the newer Pixar/Disney animations).

Netflix is noticeably worse for those.

Stan's been pretty decent on my 50" plasma with the native Apple TV app and surround sound. I'm happy to use it for TV shows, but you might want to go Blu-ray for titles with superior uncompressed 5.1 or 7.1 surround.

        • Thanks guys. May be it's time to try these sites out!

First season was amazingly great. By the third season it had become a tumblr parody of itself. :(

You mean Sherlock gets to meet The Doctor?
