Infrared control, so only good indoors. But still what a price, maybe…

    • +6

I'm getting negged for saying infrared does not work in the sun! What's up with that? If it was 2.4Ghz it would be great outdoors, but it's not. It will still be fun indoors.

      • +4

Because you are trying to spoil their fun. Let them try it and wonder why it doesnt respond as it flys into the stratosphere and then crashes. Hey it's only $10 bucks and it makes a BIG bang.

I used to think I couldn't fly mine until I discovered this little "bug" now I enjoy it but only indoors

My first RC helicopter was the one I purchased from DSE back in 2008, thanks to OZBargain. Was very fiddly back then, constantly had to make adjustments. When I got it calibrated perfectly, I ran outside all excited, only to realise I had to follow the helicopter in order to control it. I had to be right under the helicopter for the control to work. IR = Indoors, unless you feel like running with your helicopter.

      • +1

You didn't say it doesn't work in the sun. You said it's only good for indoors use. There is no problem using this outside at night.

        • +1

Ha ha just that you cant see what you are doing -but that shouldn't bother many.

        • You can have just as much flying indoors with the lights off.

You have not spent $10 until you've crashed one of these …

    • Yep… So tempted when it came up last night, and so tempted again now.
Think I'll stick to playing with my old (recently found) RC Big Bear!

  • Meant to be a reply

  • Thanks MM.

  • This Visa Checkout thing is new to me. Anyone signing up for it for anything besides the free delivery?

  • Not sure how these compare to the Swann air duel pursuit ones posted ten days or so ago but those things are seriously addictive. Very resilient and so much fun that I was tempted to get this one too.

  • thanks OP have always wanted one of these! ordered just now

  • 2.5 stars rating, disappointing reviews, batteries die quickly.. no go.

    • +1

$10 for an hour of fun is okay value.

was looking at my CC bill yesterday and like others wondering a lot…realised had a lots and lots of $10-$20 transactions… we come to ozbargain, do save but imho also waste money by spending money on useless stuff just because they are around $10-$20 mark.

        • +2

          You just saved me $10

  • got a pop up and says join now and get $10 free so wonder if i can get this whole copter for free lol

EDIT: oh snap $50 spend minimum =0

  • Received mine today, so far I haven't been able to get it off the ground. Used the USB cable to charge the battery but it seems like it isn't getting enough charge, not really sure though. It spins up but not enough to take off.

    • got mine today as well, have the same problem. Doesn't seem to spin fast enough to take off.

      • I am a sad man, was looking forward to crashing it around the house.

      • Do you have to charge it before use or are batteries charged?

        • +1

It said charge before use. I tried out both batteries and it still couldn't take off. Looking to get a refund now, a little disappointed, I was looking forward to crashing it around as well.

        • Can't even get the LED's to turn on

        • @droptester:
I've tried 2, neither will get off the ground. Seriously underpowered batteries. Tried charging multiple times.

        • @Newcroft:
Same problem here. But I also noticed that the left turn button stops the motors.

First fan rotates clockwise and the top blades rotate anti-clockwise.

          Any idea anyone ?

        • +1

          @UglyPanda:

Reverse spinning double rotors are normal, same on the Swann helicopters deal so it wouldn't be that (apparently it offers better stability and control)

Shame that the deal seems to be a dud, I'm loving mine from the Swann deal

    • Same here, it doesn't lift off. Not a bargain at all

  • Not working here either. charged both batteries and zip. For $10 it should at least get off the ground so it can crash.

EDIT : Take that back. I just found the tiny switch, between the battery and the little black IR receiver on on the helo. A white or yellow button that can be moved sideways. Then the controls are very imprecise but it was $10, so … Just gotta flick that switch and push those levers.

Have it going around the kitchen floor but the room isn't big enough, needs a garden, will try outdoors tomorrow. Controls work, just not good in a tight space.

EDIT : When it tips over and blades hit ground there is a tendency for the gear to disengage. The small gear that turns the top rotor slips down and needs refitting - easy enough, as long as it doesn't come off altogether and get lost.

No success getting it off the floor so tried upping the speed with it in my hand and letting go gently - works better.

    • Can't get it to fly for more than a few seconds before it crashes. It is basically uncontrollable. Going back.

  • It does not lift off.

  • They are asking me to destroy the item (put a hammer to it wrapped around a towel or cut the power cord) and then send though photos of the destroyed item for verification. They will forward the photos on to their supplier for assessment and for authorisation for a replacement to be shipped to me.

Could someone send me there photo. Have binned it after it didn't work.

  • Looks like a bad batch of helos, so many complaints. Mine is a dud too.

  • Refund is in my account, no effort, just time. Good CS too.
