SanDisk 128GB Solid State Drive (SSD) $61.22 Delivered @ PBTech

2070
PRCMEFREE

Alright guys the deal is finally over. This was my first post and I’m really glad on how successful it’s been! Hope everyone enjoyed it :)

Also a big shout out to Shaw who first discovered the free shipping code on ChoiceCheapies! If it weren't for him we wouldn't be getting these SSD's

EDIT: It seems they have extended the sale. Anyway the deal is back on but can end anytime so last minute grabbers, get in!!

Finally after 2 years I'm able to share something with the OzBargain community!

Usually these things can be found much cheaper in Australia. For the first time, PBTech Technologies, an electronics store in New Zealand is offering this SSD for a cheap price. Use promo code "PRCMEFREE" for free shipping.

I suspect this must be the cheapest in Aus at the moment.

This is a great upgrade to revive your old laptop and make it way faster than before. It would also best suit for the Acer quad-core laptop on sale here ($214 laptop + $61 SSD = a well spent $275 on a quad core laptop with an ssd)

NOTE - This was part of the 2 day weekend sale which started yesterday so today is the last day!!

    • my CBA credit card didn't charge international fee but will be on the lookout in case they do

  • Westpac charged FOREIGN FEE AUD 1.83, Why?

    • Overseas transaction? The company is in NZ

  • Anyone got one to sell? Wanting to buy one :)

  • +1

Has anyone received any email confirming their purchase? I just realised I have received no thing but only the charged on my credit card.

    • yes, i got a confirmation email immediately after completing the checkout process.

  • Has anyone's order been shipped yet?

    • +1

95% of all the orders have been shipped Monday / Tuesday please allow around 4 -6 days for delivery
      [email protected] with any questions

      • thanks for your reply brett

is that info updated on our accounts, because mine still says picking?

        • Whats your order number?
Right now for Australia orders this is a manual process not as streamlined as it is for NZ orders

          @brettw:
          Hey Brett,
no doubt getting listed here will have caused a flood of orders, but did you know quite a few people copped surprise 'foreign transaction' fees from their banks, despite being shown in AU$ ? Might seem like a small detail, but its probably enough to stop people ordering in the future so worth looking at. Cheers.

        • @brettw:

          PM sent

        • @King Tightarse: yeap I got the overseas transaction fee. Not happy

          @pacsman:

I want a refund from PBTech for the $1.83 I incurred.

The screen expressly said $61.22 AUD when you pay and does not mention anything about a foreign transaction.

  • Mine is still in the status of "Picking" after more than 72 hours. Hopefully they will pick the best ones for my order, or else, I can see a reason that need to be in that status for so long…

    • +1

Mine still says picking, but after giving my order number to the store rep, he gave me my tracking number, it looks like they haven't updated our accounts.

      • Well… Thanks for letting me know.

        Will send them email ;)

        Cheers

        • We have shipped them all, only orders left are the unpaid for ones.
if you do require your tracking info please email [email protected] with your order number and ill reply fast as i can.

  • Just got mine today. The mail man left it at the front door. Will try and get it installed on my day off.

  • Received mine as well. Already in my old netbook, working well. Great deal!

  • My shipping was fine early on but has become a concern with no updates in 5 days:

    Tuesday, 16 June 2015
3:45 p.m. Tracking number allocated & order ready MANUKAU
    Wednesday, 17 June 2015
4:54 p.m. INTERNATIONAL TRANSIT TO DESTINATION COUNTRY NZ, AKL Omni Parcel

    • Mine's still showin international transit too (exactly the same dates as yours), it's a bit concerning.

    • I got an update in my tracking today after sending an email to [email protected] (thanks Brett) looks like it has made it to Australia so I should get it in the next day or so…

  • Received mine as well

  • +1

I wish this price would come back! Can't buy an SSD over $61 now…

  • @Fobsessive: The OCZ deal at MSY wasn't bad either…

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/199218

    Disk/Size Price Price per GB
    Sandisk 128GB $61.22 47.83c
    OCZ ARC 100 120GB $69 57.5c
    OCZ ARC 100 240GB $109 45.42c
    OCZ ARC 100 480GB $219 45.63c

OCZ certainly aren't Sandisk in terms of reputation, but the ARC 100s are reviewing pretty well in terms of durability.

  • Just got this today and decided to do some benchmark on it after cloning my drive. I was hoping it would be better or at least on par with my older SSD, however it doesn't seems to be anywhere NEAR as good.

I'm comparing it to my 128gb Sandisk Ultra Plus that I bought for around $70 from MSY 2 years ago:

    http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/157295/31555/sandisk_ul…

TLDR: in a couple of sequential tests it beats my old ssd by less than 10%. In others it's slower than my drive by up to 10 times?!?!?!

Er…is this right? Am I better off using my older SSD for my main computer?

  • Mine arrived today and the package was very blatantly tampered with. If it wasn't for the good packaging the SSD would have slipped out.
