SanDisk 128GB Solid State Drive (SSD) $61.22 Delivered @ PBTech

2070
PRCMEFREE

Alright guys the deal is finally over. This was my first post and I’m really glad on how successful it’s been! Hope everyone enjoyed it :)

Also a big shout out to Shaw who first discovered the free shipping code on ChoiceCheapies! If it weren't for him we wouldn't be getting these SSD's

EDIT: It seems they have extended the sale. Anyway the deal is back on but can end anytime so last minute grabbers, get in!!

Finally after 2 years I'm able to share something with the OzBargain community!

Usually these things can be found much cheaper in Australia. For the first time, PBTech Technologies, an electronics store in New Zealand is offering this SSD for a cheap price. Use promo code "PRCMEFREE" for free shipping.

I suspect this must be the cheapest in Aus at the moment.

This is a great upgrade to revive your old laptop and make it way faster than before. It would also best suit for the Acer quad-core laptop on sale here ($214 laptop + $61 SSD = a well spent $275 on a quad core laptop with an ssd)

NOTE - This was part of the 2 day weekend sale which started yesterday so today is the last day!!

Thanks for this. Definitely tempting at that price.

    • Haha glad I could help :)

  • +6

Great this will go brilliantly with the cheap Acers everyone bought!

  • Wow $6.73 cheaper than Shopping Express - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/197311
    Do they have Paypal?

    • +1

You can pay by Poli (Internet banking), bank transfer or credit card

    • +1

The SE one is showing Out Of Stock.

  • great price for a smaller drive!

  • +1

Pulled the trigger on this after missing the Patriot Blaze at MSY for $60 pickup. For the Acer laptop. Already got the RAM. Was tempted by the Geil Zenith A3 250gb for $115 at PLE, but not enough info available on them.

  • Is this drive enough capacity for a desktop PC which has 1 TB HDD?

    • +3

Run them both together, OS on the SSD, if there is room.

      • I mean is 128 GB enough for OS and programs like office and some games? Cheers

        • +3

Yea, I know what you meant mate, I was meaning that the best outcome is to run them both in the same PC, but if you can choose one or the other, this should be adequate if they are only small games. Good luck cramming GTA 5 in there though.

        • Yes it is

        • +1

Gonna have to be more specific than "some games", some of the newer games are easily 40-60GB by themselves.

With a smaller drive, I tend to recommend using it as cache if you can. Easier than dealing with a full drive.

        • +1

@Shaw:Thanks. I ll run both drives. Will need to watch some youtube on how to do this as i have never change one before. If not, my local comp shop charge $40 for the job

        • +3

@bargainfinder: Have a look here, they have a really good guide on how to get the most out of it

        • ONE game that will make a difference will fit on a 128GB SSD with an OS.

Such games are usually 40+ GB in size, and you obviously can't fit two on an SSD with space for programs and an OS.

  • Which is better, this or Samsung 850 evo? In regards speed and quality.

    • +1

Definitely Samsung. The SanDisk is fast and reliable too, it's just ever better now due to the low price.

    • +1

The 850 EVO is definitively better than this sandisk model in probably all benchmarks (given the same capacities). The 850 EVO makes use of TLC v-nand which is supposed to considerably more reliable than the cheaper, more common TLC nand flash (that the sandisk one uses).

Also longer warranty and nicer software package (subjectively)

      • The Sandisk Ultra II uses TLC.

I believe this one is MLC.

        • Are you sure? I can't find anything to suggest that this model uses MLC or even any specs on what nand flash it really uses, which leads to me to believe that it is the cheapest form (TLC). Also, seeing as this is the lowest tier ssd from sandisk why would they put substantially more expensive components in it and not the more expensive models? The MLC drives out there are also definitively more expensive.

At the end of the day, the differences between longevity of each type of NAND is likely to not matter for consumer use. IIRC benchmarks showed some TLC SSD's exhibit lifespans of far longer than advertised anyway.

      • +1

I think I will go with the samsung as it cost me around $120 for double the capacity from Amazon. As I am looking to install it in my iMac which is my main device. but still this a good deal though.

    • +4

Well the Sandisk here is $61, and the 850 EVO is somewhere around $100+. Very few home users will notice any real world difference in performance between the two.

I use a cheap Kingspec SSD on my second laptop, and a more pricy Crucial M550 on my main - I really don't notice a huge difference except if I copy large files.

I'd happily jump on this deal if I needed it.

      • +3

Very few home users will notice any real world difference in performance between the two.

        ^This!

Many people worry far too much about the results of synthetic benchmarks & not enough about the simple practical ramifications.

  • Shouldn't this be in NZ dollars?

    • Hahaha true i think this is a customised version for Australian customers

  • +1

Thanks OP, great work! For some reason in the order confirmation e-mail it says 2.5% surcharge applies for credit card payment, but looking at my credit card transaction I was only charged $61.22

    • +1

Cheers :) Yeah that must be a mistake as the 2.5% surcharge applies only for NZ customers.

      • +5

We don't usually do a lot on this Australia site but yeah deal ends midnight NZ TIME get in while stock lasts
Nice to see Aussies can be creative to get around the shipping costs :p

  • +1

Some alternatives to this deal include the same product for $69/68 at MSY/UMART if anyone is keen having the option of (probably) quicker local warranty claims/returns.

    • +1

If dealing with SanDisk, there shouldn't be an issue since SanDisk's warranty is dependent on the region and Australia/New Zealand come under the APAC (Asia Pacific). So if anything goes wrong, you will definitely be covered (3 years from purchase)

      • +1

That's good to know, is it presumptuous to assume they cover shipping costs etc as well?

        • +6

We do and we use Parcelpoint for any returns

        • @brettw:

Speaking of shipping, how long should this take to arrive? Is it coming from NZ or drop shipped in Australia?

        • +3

          @Peace Maker: 4-5days from nz

  • Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I just wanted to make sure I got things right. In my laptop I currently have a 1tb harddrive and 128gb m.2 ssd. Will this ssd fit in place of the 1tb harddrive or the 128gb m.2 ssd?

    • +1

Since laptops use a 2.5" drive, I don't see why not.

    • +4

it'll fit in place of the 1tb hdd only.

      • +2

Ahh my bad just realised the m2 is a mSATA

    • +3

In place of the 1TB which uses normal SATA.

    • Thanks guys so I guess I will have to look for mSATA SSDs then since I want to keep the 1tb harddrive.

      • +1

If your laptop has CD rom and you don't use it that much you can take it off and install the ssd there or the 1tb.

    • +2

      MSATA drives are different.
      This wont fit into mSATA

  • +4

I got two of these from SE last week @ $63.50/each delivered, I'm very happy with them for the price! One went into the aforementioned Acer cheapie & the other into an older Aldi laptop…with an immediate & significant improvement to both machines, great value for money!!! :)

  • 2GB laptop ram for is pretty cheap too at $13.91.

  • I was going to purchase this same SSD from the Shopping Express Deal until this was posted,

    @pacsman:

Will it make any real difference in the el-cheapo Acer?

    • Absolutely! The old spinning drives start chugging after Windows has been installed for a few months and even more noticeable if you regularly install software.

  • Thank you OP! just got myself 1.

    • Me too….thanks OP

      • Me three. Thanks OP! Great first post.

  • NZ…we're coming for you

  • Thank OP , just order one for the Acer Celeron Laptop

  • SOLID!!!!!!!

  • Got Some as well..

  • Any good free programs to clone existing main drive with operating system to this?

  • Are you lads associated with freeshippingtech in any way or form?

  • +1

Sigh… Sorry, decided NOT to get this.

I need to stop impulse buying. After 20 minutes of deliberation, my mum says that she is 'fine' with her new Acer (which drove me nuts while I was trying to configure it.)

  • Would it be possible to take the CD drive out and put this in a ACER Aspire 15.6" V3-572G-52HF W8.1 Notebook?

    • +2

      yes

      • Amy tutorials on how to do this before I bite the bullet and get it?

        • +1

Have a look at this video. Although it's for another model (but similar to yours), I'm sure this would give you an idea of what you have to do.

  • Can I put this in my desktop pc?

    • +2

Yes you can, it comes with the necessary tools to fit it securely in a desktop. f you're planning on buying this you'd better hurry cause there's only 35 minutes before the deal expires.

  • Great deal, thanks OP. Bought one for my aging Netbook which I use for travel. Will make for a nice little upgrade.

  • +2

wow grabbed one 1 minute before the deal expired

  • Deleted

  • Dagnabbit, i wish my old laptop was SATA and not IDE (It was an Asus, and awesome - lasted nearly 8 years! Try and get that much from a laptop today lol)

    • My acer is 8 as well.

  • WOW! That was the biggest $5 discount ever!
Looks like $555 discount on a 128GB SSD by the massive attack I see here from ozbargainers!
I mean have you seen this anywhere more than $68? or I am missing something?
    BTW, Thanks OP

  • $73 at umart computers in Brisbane might get one there

  • Thanks OP.

  • +1

They haven't reverted the price yet, looks like deal is still on.

    • Haha they actually did, but put the deal back few minutes later

  • +1

Is the same SSD $69 at MSY?
    Legit question, please don't neg.

    • +2

Yes, they have the same part number, SDSSDP-128G-Q25

  • Doesnt work for me :( coupon doesn't apply, doesnt reduce the price any.

    • It's expired. Sale finished shortly after midnight nz time

      • Yeah i've mark it as expired now.

  • Just notice ING charged me an international purchase fee despite being in AU$.

    • Just started an online chat as I would have used trusty 28degrees card. They assure me it was charged in aud and no conversion fee. My credit card doesn't charge o/s tx fees until the end of the months so will have to wait and see. I would be querying it

      • Rang ING and got a "goodwill" credit. The fee is for an International purchase, as they bank in Auckland. This is something they might want to fix if they expand their AU sales.
