2840

Avast… the world's number 1 antivirus (apparently). Simply click this link and enter your details. You'll eventually get an email with a license key, but be patient as the servers are being hammered right now. Enjoy :)

TechRadar Pro has partnered with Czech-based security outfit, Avast, to offer free 12-month licenses of its award winning Total Security 2015 security package to all our readers, regardless of their location. The deal, which has been struck exclusively with Avast, is worth up to £30 (about $45/AU$60) and can be used on one computer only.

You can decide to keep Avast Pro (it will revert to the free edition), remove the application or extend the subscription at the end of the first year; significant discounts are available. To get your hands on that license, simply complete a short survey, provide with your email and subscribe to the TechRadar Pro newsletter (you can always unsubscribe at any time).

Your email will only be used to send the appropriate details regarding this promotion and for the TechRadar Pro newsletter registration. To get your license, please complete the form here. The offer will end on June 19th at 1500 (UK time). Note that existing TechRadar Pro newsletter subscribers can also apply for a code. It will be sent to you automatically and you should always check your spam box.

    • Thanks, nfi what went wrong. If in doubt try again…or turn it off then on again then try again :p

  • Good deal but I had to uninstall it because it made the laptop run too slow. Took about 5 seconds for google chrome to respond after opening it.

    • Did you have another antivirus installed at the same time?

      • No just using the inbuilt windows 8 defender and firewall. I know people say they suck but I have never had a problem. I only visit a bunch of safe sites, not really surfing the net much at all.

So I tried disabling the extension it installed in chrome but it was still slow.

Oh, well Avast should have disabled Windows 8 Defender - but it sounds like it didn't do that. The symptoms are typical for when there's two antivirus programs running.

I'm sure you'll be fine :) Chrome is reasonably good for containing web exploits (drive by downloads) and blocking outdated/vulnerable browser plugins.

You can always install Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit for some extra peace of mind, generally an install and forget program with no noticeable effect on performance.

        • @RJK:

Ok thanks, I'll check it out.

  • I will grab it now but might use it after my esetnod32 runs out in 6 months time https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/198460

    • I tried ESET Smart Security 9 beta but it was some how blocking access to the eBay AU signin server and Centrelink online. Some thing crapped up in its inbuilt firewall. Since went over to this Avast Anvivirus Pro deal and have had no problems other than IE11 randomly crashing.

      • Well I haven't had an issue, I am using firefox though.

      • Must be nice to be on centrelink benefits and shop on eBay all day :)

        • Not necessarily shop buying. One may be window browsing.

  • You consistently find awesome deals TA… Thanks

  • Ever since I installed Avast Antivirus Pro i find that Internet Explorer has been randomly crashing like there's no tomorrow.

    • After a system reboot it's been fine no more crashing in Internet Explorer.

  • I am using Avast Anti-Virus Pro on my laptop with about 6 months left on the license. Have just bought a notebook and want to install the same product. Can I get a second license if I use the same email address, or does each license require a different email address? I noticed a comment above about having several gmail accounts - can someone explain how does this works please?

  • Thanks, used it for years does the job well

  • i use avast on every computer & never had a problem, but they are constantly trying to trick you into paying, expect a renewal invoice in 12 months.

I will give a thumbs up, but pass on the licence myself

  • So any idea once you have got a license if you can install it in say 1 month time and it will still work.

  • Do you update your software (such as Javascript,

    What???

  • Couldn't renew my AVG so jumped on this bandwagon.. So far so good! Thanks OP :)

  • I'm getting a message saying the promotion is over. But it's not the 19th yet, even in England.

This is a worse! I downloaded this all worked fine till I restarted my pc my laptop came up with an error for a driver and now my mouse does not work at all after this stupid software. also my laptop was bugging out and lagging so badly so I restored it and my driver is still stuffed up now cause of this, just a warning. not sure what is going on i did nothing wrong when i downloaded this.

Sounds like your computer hardware has issues.

      • NOPE it was working fine everything was fine till I restarted my laptop cause it needed to be cause of the software and error came up, never had this problem before, deleted this software right away. it stuffed up my laptop, still trying to fix it but there is nothing.

    • Seems incredible this deal has over 3500 clicks, and you're the first to have an issue, and the first to believe it deserves a negative vote? Oh well.

  • ENDED

  • Looks like I'm still not at an exalted enough level to find out what these mysterious 15 problems slowing my computer are and that's the only reason I was bothered going from the free Avast. Grimefighter not available- is that right or am I doing something wrong?

  • Appears that they have ended the promotion already :(

  • ended early ozbargained

  • The giveaway has ended

  • signed up… didn't get a licence? BOO!!

    • When did you signed up?. I got my license email yesterday morning within a minute later.

      • yesterday while this was still active…. :(

        • Have you checked your spam or junk mail email folder?.

        • @hollykryten: yeah, nothing :(

  • I spoke too soon. Internet Explorer 11 is still randomly crashing after installing Avast Antivirus Pro. Only happens in IE, Firefox is fine.

    • Do not use the additional add-ons and browser extensions in Avast, they are lousy. Uninstall all the WebRep BS and just use the core antivirus product.

      • Yep i disabled the Avast browser extension and so far smooth sailing no more IE11 crashes.

  • Anyone know what the expiry date for activation is? I want to delay as long as possible on the second one.

    • License key that's included as an attachment in the email was already activated when it was issued. The license key file contains the customers name, customer number and license expiry date. The license key expires 365 days after you got the email. So it doesn't matter how long you may be trying to delay the clock is already ticking.

      • Oh damn and blast.

        Thanks.

  • Warning for anyone using a dns switcher, with the upgrade to pro you get a new shield active protection called "secure DNS". I couldn't work out why all of a sudden the switcher wasn't working. This was the issue.

    • Yeah and it also slowed down my web page loading response.
