Officeworks does not stock this model. They have Western Digital My Book Desktop 4TB Hard Drive but not the Elements.

      • Can you price match with my book wd 4tb my book?

This is not what I would call a bargain. I paid $150 at the New Year sales, find them online now at $190-$200 so this RRP is completely misleading. I guess it's OK if you are looking for one but not really something you MUST buy now because you'll never see it cheaper.

WD was on sale for these for $149.99 early this year. But I only get free shipping if I bought $150 or above.

During price matching in OW, I had to buy 2. Total of $285 for two.

    I bought mine 2 years 4 months and 30 days ago for $24 more…RRP of $275 lol

I was quoted $210 from Good Guys for one of these yesterday. Finished up paying $180 for 4TB Seagate from the same shop.

Seems $175 delivered is a good price to me when compared to what is available at the moment.

  • Anyone know if this external HDD has an on/off button?

    • I don't think I have ever seen an external drive with an off button unless you purchased a caddy and put the drive in yourself. I could be wrong.

      • Samsungs have a dial that you can also adjust the brightness of the LED

      • I saw WD's with them 8 years ago.

        • Yeah. Turns out I'm full of cr#p. They are flush with the back and not obvious to those of us who are old, blind and stupid :(

    • Yep my one does, bought from this sale so just double check its the same model.

      • That is interesting. I have 3 smaller capacity/older My Books/Elements and none have switches. Neither do any of my Seagates however an old caddy I have does.

        • See my post below with the pic, strange how mine does. This is my only 3.5 external apart from one where I used an Astone caddy and an old HDD from my PC (which had a switch). Thought they were all like that, but apparently not haha.

        • @Shibbyyy: Weird. I have 12 external 3.5 drives (Seagate and WD)ranging up to about 8 years old and none have a power switch. Coincidentally the case/caddy I referred to previously as having a power switch was also an Astone (long since failed).

EDIT: Well I feel like a fool. I rechecked against your picture and one of my WD drives DOES have an on off switch! It has been plugged in and shoved to the back for about a year and I never even noticed.

      • Thanks Shibbyyy, I'll look out for the one in the green box.

    • We purchased a few of these for work in the 4tb and they do not have on off switches. They were in newer white boxes not green.

Two places that stock this model are Harvey Norman and JB-HiFi. I phoned my nearest HN to see if they would price match and they said they pay over $200 wholesale! There are two JBs near me. The first one said simply that they don't match online only prices. The second one was more flexible. She said that they don't have a policy to match the prices of online retailers but, wanting to make a sale, said that she'd be willing to haggle. They were asking $199, so when I said $175 her reply was, 'Oh, sure, we can knock $20 off!'
I said, 'Well that's $24 but… Are you saying that if I come in there without an ad, not asking for a price match and just offer you $175 for it, you'll take it?'
Her reply, 'Yes, we can do you that deal.'
The woman I spoke to was busy when I got there so I just took one to the counter and told them, 'I spoke to X on the phone. She said I could have this for $175.' The cashier looked at her supervisor, he shrugged and I got the deal (without them actually asking the sales assistant).

    • Would you mind posting your receipt? Thanks.
