    Was going to put an order through last night. Glad I waited until today as there's apparently a 10% off online only staff sale for today only (https://www2.woolworthsonline.com.au/Shop/Discover/about-us/…)! I did miss out on a couple of things I wanted but saved myself an extra chunk of change (and used the 7.5% off gift cards I got a while back) and got free delivery so I can't complain.

None of the reduced items online were that price on shelf at BWS Canterbury, I had the guy check two of the whiskey and they were normal BWS price. Click and Collect dates had ballooned out to Monday by the time I was ordering online, so how exactly could we have shopped instore?

    I'd be curious to find out if anyone who made a large order got all or most of what they ordered.

    I bought about $150 worth of stuff last night mostly international/craft beers + 2 bottles of gin and some fortified wines. Only the fortified wines arrived (6 bottles, so the savings cover the cost of delivery, but still a bit disappointed).

    • So some stuff just doesn't show up? Do they notify you at all? I chose for delivery tomorrow morning.

        Yeah, they give you whatever they supposedly have left that matches your order, you only find out when they deliver to your door. The invoice shows what you have been given/charged for, while the rest is listed as out of stock and refunded over the next few days.

        What I find particularly poor form is that they won't substitute even if you allow substitutions.

    • Did your 'track online ' webpage get updated? Mine hasn't been updated and I am not at home so not sure if it has been delivered (I choose today)

  • Are the allowed to cancel your order without contacting you first? I would far rather wait for them to be back in stock than not get the deal at all. The person on the phone told me that the online dispatch shop in Mascot had run out of 'clearance' stock but still had normal 'non-clearance' stock. How is that legal?

      Yeah, they are allowed. But usually what's worse (at least to me), is that they will send you a subset of what you ordered (whatever they have left in stock) and you still pay the full delivery cost.

        they will only substitute the product if you authorized when ordering, if you don't want subs then they will refund the money if they don't have the stock.

        By default it is set so that your 'personal shopper' can replace all unavailable items.
        I definitely had it checked.
        There was no offer to have anything substituted

    • So am I right in thinking that Woolies may not give you what you ordered and paid for, but what they will do instead is give your email addresses and gift card details away for free? …..

    Checked my account early this morning and had a delivery time of 7:20am then got the out of stock email at 6:10am saying no chivas/cider/chips. So all I got delivered to me was 1 milk and paper towel with a delivery fee. Oh well was worth a try but pretty bad experience from such a big retailer.

      Oh man, I feel bad for you but I was laughing hard at the same time. What a letdown, that just sucks. All the promises of exquisite, expensive scotch, bourbon and handcrafted beers and in the end it's just 1 milk and paper towel with a delivery fee.

  • Haha, out of stock of all 7 items I ordered, yet a delivery still scheduled and the refund email says I'm being refunded the amount of the liquor but NOT the $9 delivery fee. I don't f-ing think so!

  • Confirmed if you call up they will send you a gift card instead of the online credit so you can then use it in store as well. It will take 2 weeks though rofl. No wonder their CEO just fell on his sword. Terrible business, terrible experience for every customer who ordered anything. And their brand new website still shows my order on track for delivery today lmao. So glad I've basically switched to ALDI.

  • I had the same thing happen with the half price Glenfiddich saga with First Choice. They tried to limit orders to 1 per person and I had placed and paid for an order for 9 bottles.

    I made multiple calls to First Choice citing sections 29 and 36 of the Australian Consumer Law. I got all my bottles in the end.

    Unless there was a natural disaster or something like a fire in the warehouse, they must honour the contract you created with them by paying for your order.

    Do not roll over on this, Australia's biggest alcohol distributer does not run out of stock of alcohol; they just don't like selling it at a loss.

      What was your angle to argue it?

      • They said because they didn't have enough stock they could not fill all orders fully. I told them I could see Dan Murphy's had some in stock and they should head down there and get more bottles from there. Got told the supervisor would call back.

        2 days later, new person rang me and said similar. I told them that I entered a contract with them when the sale successfully went through and don't accept the reason of being out of stock as a reason to change that agreement, especially for a product that can easily be restocked; I was polite but firm.

        They know that the majority of people will fold initially, like insurance claims, and have no choice but to honour the insistent ones.

        I'll deal with Woolworths on Monday, going to enjoy my weekend.

      Great idea about the Australian Consumer Law & glad to hear you got your Glenfiddich from First Choice! Let's see if Woolies can step up to the plate and fulfil these orders. I'm sure one of their 1200 BWS stores must have at least some of this stock, if not one of the Dan Murphy's they also own. C'mon Woolies….out of stock…in all 1200 stores and warehouses….really? If not, ship the customers the products they have paid for.

    • Spoke to the guy in store and he showed me how most people who were picking up today had 0 items for collection..

      I was lucky and 2 of my items were in stock!

      Ironically some of my out of stock items were in stock in store.. However he told me that click and collect orders are done in a warehouse somewhere..

        when that's happened to me - such as with wow gold salmon - i've been allowed to buy shelf stock at the order price

        for oos deliveries, i've done the same by taking the receipt to my local store

      • I only got 3 items out of 20 today - picked up from Canterbury. Guy in the store was clueless other than telling me that heaps of people had been coming and getting short orders. The thing that annoyed me was I drive all the way there across Sydney only to find they'd sent me an email about half an hour before my pick up time to inform me there were only three items. So I still had to go there for the three items. Two hours of my life I'll never get back. Thanks Woolies.. Oh and by the way, 17 of the 20 items are in stock again at Woolies online as I picked up my 3 items…

        • Did any of your three items have "before before" dates, and if so, were they close to or past that date?

          It may be that Woolies were clearing a limited amount of old and past-"best before" stock and the restocked items are current 'in date' stock.

        • All Whisky, so no best before dates. I am convinced they just didn't want to honour the price on the other items.

  • More examples of crappy service: get woken by doorbell 1.5 hrs before delivery time window. Guy says "very sorry! I got here first and then looked at the delivery time"
    At least I got some of my items but vast majority "out of stock"

      5/12 bottles delivered. No beer. Thankfully I ordered enough that delivery was waived.

    • Yup, same. Delivery guy showed up early - with everything "out of stock" except for the coke I had ordered as mixer. Had put in a large order on Thursday night. Will try to chase them up on Monday. I was at a Woollies on Saturday and they had plenty of stock of many of the items which I had ordered. Does Woolworths Online trade under a different ABN to brick and mortar Woolworths?

  • Spoke to a customer relations rep today. Argued the case with reference to consumer law etc. She went through semantics about how Mascot store cannot sell these items anymore blah blah. Offered $20 good will credit. I cbf arguing for more than 10mins, so I noted my dissatisfaction and moved on with my life lol.

  • I called customer service on 1800 000 610. Asked if I can get raincheck for my items. They said cant do rainchecks for online orders. Gave me $15 goodwill credit into my account. May be worth a try and get something for it.
    Havent tried going into a store to see if I can get a raincheck.
