In terms of Click and Collect, DS eBay store showed stock in Canberra at least, whereas Dick Smith website showed no stock for most of the postcodes I've entered.

  • Is there a code to input? Because mine just says 509$

    Good deal OP. Thnaks

  • I just bought a tab s 8.4 a couple of weeks ago. The screen is awesome. I would warn though that the battery life is crap. It doesn't last anywhere near what the spec states. I've moved from a Nexus 7 2013 and it was quite a shock how the batteries compared.

    • How long does yours last? As I got mine's battery replaced for free with the warranty as they said it was bloated and now lasts for days on standby or day and a half with a fair amount of usaged of apps.

      • I don't even get a day of reasonable usage. I'd say around 5-6 hrs (web browsing, no games). I'd get all day out of the Nexus 7. How did you go about getting your battery replaced? Was it through the retailer or Samsung?

        • +1

Ah yeah sounds bloated. Yeah Samsung official store, just bring your receipt and they sort it out, do it early in the day as much as possible and not weekends and you can get it back a few hours later if they dont have a lot to work with previous days.

  • I'm fairly Anti-Samsung on Android, mostly because of TouchWiz but I got one a 10.5 in the Telstra deal and I love this tablet. It's so fast and snappy and awesome screen. Highly recommend getting one if you are in the market!

As for battery life, yeah it ain't great for what it is, but I get two days out of it (without gaming). Gaming murders it, naturally.

    • Yeah, battery life was poor on KitKat while gaming. I could bring it from 100% to 5% with about 1.5 hours of simple games. Even without gaming, I was getting only 3-4 hours of screen on time with browsing. Just loaded Lollipop onto my Tab S 8.4 and battery life is now excellent. I have about 6 hours of screen on time with browsing and can get about 2-3 hours with gaming.

      • Funny, I definitely get at least 7-8 hours from watching youtube videos, mine is on lollipop though.

    • Touchwiz is awful on tablet as well, I've heard that CM rom makes it run even faster. At least change the launcher to something like Nova Launcher or something. Magazine UX and Touchwiz Launcher takes up a lot of resource.

      • I only use Nova Launcher on all my devices, but that doesn't change the fact the notifications, settings menus etc are all TouchWiz'ed.

        • True, but changing the launcher alone can get you around few hundred MB of RAM freed up (It was one of the recommendation I've seen from XDA). I think Nova launcher compared to the stock one uses less RAM since my Samsung tablet stays around 200~300MB lower than what it used to be around with Nova Launcher.

  • Damn! I thought $335 for the 8.4 the other day with that Ebay 20% off code was a good price but now DS has it for the same. Plus this deal qualifies for $50 Ebay voucher which previous deal didn't. Bugger. Talk about sucky timing :(

I gather from above comments that 12hr screen time is a bit exaggerated? Time to visit XDA for a look at ROM options …..

  • Thanks, picked up a 8.4 on ebay, showed local stock (DS web site didn't show local stock for same store, go figure). Seeing as I don't seem to be able to pick up refurb Nexus7 2013 any more, this seemed like the next best option.

Any suggestions for good covers? Prefer one that provides wake/lock cover and stand for portrait AND landscape, but any good experiences appreciated.

Price matched at OW this morning for $305.88 (8.4"), purchased the simple case (in black) for it as well $30.

I'm going from Nexus 7 (2012), heck this is my first Samsung device. Nexus house hold.

Officeworks has just dropped their price for Samsung Galaxy Tab S to $419. If you have Amex and a Harvey Norman nearby, you can get it for $369 (after $50 Amex discount). Not sure if Officeworks revert the price to RRP after tonight.

    • Is this Amex offer still available?

  • What's the cheapest price ever for the 10.5" ? Not including that Telstra $15 a month cellular one.

    • $350? Around that I think, it was from TGG and it was from 20% off eBay deal.

      • Wow.. that was cheap. Did it get Ozbargained fast?

        • I got on as soon as the deal started, I got the last one in Canberra. It was my glorious day :P

Anyone buying make sure you combine with this voucher code for another $50 off.

    • dick again, expire in 10 days and prices have been raised.

      • It might've been 24 hours deal (with 15% off Samsung running along with it) or something.
