If someone went to Telstra.com, would they be able to find that link?

No. I tried that a few days ago and couldn't find a way to the offer from the main Telstra page. All of the /latest-offers/ pages are hidden.

        • @eug:

Well without the original e-mail, it may not have stated that it was only for people on those older prepaid plans. Like myself I have a telstra pre-paid sim so in that way, I'm eligible for the offer. When I spoke to the online chat, they said I was able to port my other provider's post-paid to this plan.

I suppose that shows that it wasn't meant to be available to the general public?

But the offer is really only open to people who received the email. It does after all way "…we've handpicked an exclusive offer for you", not "…for all prepaid users".

When I spoke to the online chat, they said I was able to port my other provider's post-paid to this plan.

If you saved the chat, then they should probably give the deal to you. That would probably get that chat rep in trouble though.

          @eug:

That however still doesn't say that you can't share it with friends. I've received plenty of e-mails from stores saying the offer is handpicked for me and they send that to every customer they have and also have a generic promotion code like JUNE15 or similar.

I also did save that chat I had with the online team, but we'll see how others go with it.

        • @frogduck:

That however still doesn't say that you can't share it with friends.

If I see some people receiving an email like that while most others didn't, I wouldn't demand the deal to be given to me. I'd still give it a try, but if it doesn't work, I won't be upset because it was never offered to me in the first place, so I have no right to demand it.

If it works, fantastic! If it doesn't, oh well … time to move on to the next deal.

I've received plenty of e-mails from stores saying the offer is handpicked for me and they send that to every customer they have and also have a generic promotion code like JUNE15 or similar.

There are also codes where that's not the case - you just don't really see them here as the mods would pull it if it was a strict targeted offer. eBay/Paypal seem to do it frequently.

I also did save that chat I had with the online team, but we'll see how others go with it.

          Good luck!

        • @eug:

Yeah, normally I would be fine with it if it didn't work. But the difference with this one is that Telstra are sending out the phones with SIMs, activating them, then telling people they're on a different plan to what they signed up on and they can't get on the one they signed up for. I think that's taking it a step too far.

edit: same may have applied for ones such as the ebay 20% off the other day, but ebay honoured it since they didn't really have the option of saying oh, since you bought this, we're going to have to charge that 20% extra.

Oh yes that part's not very nice, but at least they're allowing him to cancel and return the whole thing. I'm surprised they're covering the costs for him to rejoin spintel too.

          @eug:

At least we agreeing on that :)

    • Well in that case Telstra must be really out of their mind to do it. I can just imagine how they would compensate those who were on older plans no longer available with other providers.

    • Wow. That really is bad news. This really was a poorly handled promotion. They probably should have issued promo codes to the recipients of the invitation emails that could only be redeemed once.

    • That comment was made earlier on https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/199286?page=5#comment-2847…. Looks like there will be many unhappy customers when the first bill is for $75 and not $45

  • +5

Telstra has no leg to stand on now that contracts have been made. Order confirmation clearly states total contract cost over 24 months is $1080. 24 x $45 = $1080

    No worries.

  • Just reading what is online now, and it appears to me that it is a $45 per month plan PLUS a mobile phone repayment plan over 12 or 24 months.

    • Except that all the order confirmations read there were no monthly payments…. Confusing….

      • Have you had any feedback on your porting yet imnotarobot?

        • +1

No, still going ahead as far as I'm aware. Just gonna wait it out I think.

    • +1

My order clearly says $45/month with $0 phone repayments. Too bad I can't get my sim to work :p

      • Did you select new service number like myself?

        • No, port.

Edit. Talking to telstra chat atm.

I failed to get this deal but well done to all who did.

  • Almost 2hrs later after being on chat I've been told they've blocked my port as it was a targeted offer :p

    Hope others were more successful.

    • Ported from who ?

      • +1

Telechoice. Least they didn't let me port and screw me like some others.

  • my package ended up at the local PO. I managed to get it 1 minute prior to closing with a tracking print out.

Bout to activate it all over live chat

  • -2

so in case someone got the phone and could not activate as stated above, does it mean they can keep the phone for free? would be an interesting case :)

Just successfully ported in from Lebara.

    • How online or phone?

      • +1

I did it online about 3 hours ago.

        • Was your old plan post paid or pre -paid as I can't see the post paid activation site

        • @sharkytowin:

          I was prepaid.

You need to look further down the page and you'll see Mobile on a plan (online orders only)

        • Cheers going blind they said it can take 4 to 24 hrs and up to 48 hrs from another provider so luck you.

        • +1

          @sharkytowin:

Don't worry most ports go through within 3 hours. If you've ported tonight you'll probably be up and running by 10am tomorrow.

  • OK, mine worked out fine.
    -Applied and nominated a port
-Number was ported from Optus last night
-Phone delivered today, activated supplied SIM and 20 minutes later all OK.
    Perfect.

    • +3

You know that's only coz no one would want to **** with HitlersDad right?

      ba dum tss.

    • Mine ported fine as well. Later got an email confirming that I was put in a $50plan +$25 handset repayment. Also what did the letter that came along with the phone state?

      • +1

$45 plan, nothing has said any different.

        • That's good. Lucky you :)

  • I just checked offer page again and under step one it states:

Add one of the handsets below on a monthly repayment

Was that sentence there before or have they changed it? It seems like you need to agree to a monthly repayment on the handset + the $45 for the plan.

UPDATE: just called Telstra and confirmed the phone i received needs to be sent back and the imei is blocked on telstra network.
tested and my telstra sim doesnt work. when i try calling i get number busy.
vodafone sim works fine and imei is not blocked on AMTA website

    • Pretty sure they're just bullying everyone into returning the phone.
Whether you were invited or not, they have an obligation to honour the contract once it's delivered.

      • yeah i told them i dont the phone to send it back and they said i will be charged outright price for the phone.

he also mentioned they now have a dedicated team looking into it, to check eligibility and all activations are on hold till 30 June.

        • +3

Well that would explain a lot.
I'm sure Telstra is reading this too.

Hi Telstra! You messed up good.

Looks like they may have stopped mine in its tracks, ie. its going back across the country on the tracking. Funny how they never contacted me in any way to say my order was cancelled since the order confirmation, good communication Telstra.

  • Hi Guys,
Picked up by Galaxy S5 and SIM on Monday. Paperwork said $50 casual plan, not $45.

Did online activation, got first email. Tuesday morning (6am Perth Time) received second email that activation process was complete and will be activated within 4 hours. Yesterday arvo, still no go

Spent hour on chat last night. Still no go this morning.

On chat this morning. Told they couldn't find offer, and offered to put me on $40 or $50 casual plan, with call restrictions (not unlimited). I sent link to their website with offer (that now shows phones are on monthly payment plan (not free) but all out of stock)

I said NO, not going backwards. Give me what I signed up for, or cancel and I will keep phone at no charge.

Came back 5 minutes later and told it was now processed and would be active within 2 hours, on the $45 plan.

Will give update in a couple of hours :-)

Note: I didnt do, but pays to make a screen dump of offer pages, incase the change (as Telstra has done to original), or they disappear.

    • +6

I've got a PDF of the original page, before they put up the 'invite only' banner (when Andrew was in charge of it. Poor Andrew)
So if anyone needs it PM me and I'll load it up tonight.

Ps- good work. Exactly what I will do when I talk to them.

      • +1

Nice work. It would be fantastic if you could upload that original webpage. I imagine that I'm going to have a fight on my hands when I get it from the post office.

        • PM's have been replied to. If someone knows somewhere I can upload it and leave it, i'll put it there. otherwise i'll just google drive it to you. PM me.

        • -3

@imnotarobot: All you people knew the risk you were taking by signing up for a "targeted" offer. Yet now you just expect to keep free phones for nothing…… there's a big difference between getting a bargain and just being a plain moron.

        • -1

@andiw: ha, I also know consumer law. And guess what? It's not our fault.
Whether I knew or not is irrelevant.

        • -4

@imnotarobot: I'm getting down voted because you lot tried to cheat the system and got caught out.. stay classy ozbargain :)

        • +1

          @andiw: probably, yeah.

        • +5

          @andiw:

What I expect is telstra to honor the terms of our contract. The same way it enforces it's contract when people change their service, terminate early, etc. . If they had rejected my offer outright, not conducted a credit check, or sent me a handset and sim then I agree that I wouldn't have a leg to stand on. Instead they sent me a welcome letter.

If they want to try and slug me another $25 handset fee on top of my contract then they have to give me at least 30 days notice to the change of contract as per 4.12 of the General terms and conditions for consumers and even then I have the right to cancel the contract within 42 days of receiving that notice. The extra $25 will not be paid and I will have not agreed to the changes, given consent or complied with the changes as per 4.2 of General Terms…

As for the offer being targeted, how is anyone meant to know that with the webpage being "telstra.com.au/latest-offers/pre-paid_offer". It's a pretty standard looking url. Even then I did my due diligence to check the terms and conditions, fine print and crit. information summary and the only requirement that I could see was that you require a prepaid number, which I do.

so in all, yes I expect telstra to supply me the service for $45 a month with handset, but I don't expect them to like it; Or give me 30 days notice which I will wait until the end of the 42 days of notice to cancel my service. Then they can send a courier to my house to pickup their handset.

        • +4

          @Imperial Fire:

I could not have said it better myself.

And might i add my due diligence included chatting with the sales rep on live chat to get a clearer picture of the deal and was advised i do qualify as i also had a prepaid service with them.

"Then they can send a courier to my house to pickup their handset"… at a time suited to me and compensate me for the screen protector and case i have already purchased to be used with the handset and give me an equivalent handset to replace the old one that i have already dropped off at mobile muster for recycling given i am very environmentally concerned.

      MARY GRACE
I just got off the phone with Ray. He said that the reason why the Go Mobile Casual $45 is not yet active is because the system is still being updated. Normally, if a customer chooses a Casual Plan that means it's only the plan that they're going to get and if they want a device it will be paid outright.

      MARY GRACE
Now, since we had this offer where in you can get a device for free when you transfer from Pre-Paid to Post-Paid, in order for our customers to receive the correct bill - $45, the system needs to be updated so there will not be a charge for the handset.

      MARY GRACE
Ray said that they don't have the exact turn around time on when it will be completed, but once it is completed, all of our customers who processed the order online will receive either an email or SMS confirmation that the Go Mobile $45 is activated.

      MARY GRACE
So, right now, your mobile is still with Pre-Paid and you won't get charged for the Go Mobile $45 until it's activated

      • Are you still waiting on your port? I've only been waiting 10 hrs…

        Hoping it goes through.

Edit. Just realised you were pre-paid, so disregard.

        • I've been waiting 30 hours for my port from boost. I've been told it will be 5 to 7 days before it is working.

        • @imnotarobot: wow… That's insane. What reason did they give?

        • @cooleagles:
They said that they've screwed up, the plans need to be 'aligned' because of a misalignment of price.
Whatever that means. Was also told it wasn't meant for me. Then I was told that it should be working in 5/7 days.
          They've royally screwed this up.

        • @imnotarobot:

the plans need to be 'aligned' because of a misalignment of price.

They told me the same thing. They said the computer system needs to be altered to remove the handset repayment so the price comes back down to $45/month. I was told it'll take up to a week. I'm due for a recharge by midnight tomorrow night so i'll be on their case tomorrow asking for a complimentary recharge due to their computer system inadequacies.

OK, got an email saying that
We'd like to confirm your monthly shared data allowance has changed to 4.17GB. There are 4 services in your Shared Data group who may use this allowance.

Telstra 24/7 shows that the prepaid is gone and now on the casual $45 plan. Need to wait til wife gets home to see if the prepaid sim is disabled and new one to go in.

Also says that change and cancel fees are both $0, and payout on handset is $0!! Should just cancel and keep the S5 :-)

  • I got an email from Telstra an hour ago " Your Telstra service has been activated". Tough luck getting the phone back from me and thinking i am going to pay anything back to them.

  • +1

    Hi All,
Although my documentation says $50/month, the Telstra 24x7 App clearly states $45/month. I re-confirmed this with the online chat.

I was an existing month to month customer (out of contract) and just signed up for this deal. No problems whatsoever. I was in early on the deal.

HTC M8 is a great phone. Camera is somewhat of a let down, but the screen is awesome.

  • 3 Chats and 12 hrs later still not quite there

1 Chat to get my prepaid credit transferred to my ipad
2 To get activation going , rep told me that they will call me once done - nothing happened
3 6am this morning chat three and finally plan was activated but no matter what they did the sim swap couldn't happen so I ended up just cutting the sim down to nano.

Ive no doubt that the sim swap will go through eventually but at least im going for now.

Funnily I got full data allowance not prorata as my billing period is 26-25th (as per the app)

  • Just got my phone and tried to activate the new service but they said that there's a problem with my account because it says $70/month instead of $45/month. They acknowledged that it should actually be $45/month as i'm an existing prepaid customer (Encore) and they've escalated it but said it may take up to a week to activate!?
Looks like all accounts are now automatically set to $70/month ($45 + $25 handset repayment) and they'll be examined before adjustment and activation.

  • Product Name Upfront Cost
(billed to your credit card) Monthly Cost
    (billed to your mobile account)
    Go Mobile Casual Plan $45 - $45.00
    HTC One (M8) $0.00 $0.00
Telstra New Phone Feeling - Included
    Total including GST $0.00 $45.00
    Total GST $0.00 $4.09

  • Is there anyway to get this deal? I had a online chat with a rep, and they said I can't purchase a prepaid sim card first, as the sim card must have been active for at least 6 months?

Note: the online rep said this offer is still available for existing pre-paid customers, and the HTC One M8 and Galaxy S5 are in stock.

    • existing pre-paid customers ? or only the ones who were invited? Have u saved a copy of the script?

      • I didn't save it - but the top banner on the link already indicates that its for existing pre-paid customers.

        • The banner now states 'INVITATION ONLY FOR TELSTRA PRE-PAID CUSTOMERS'

  • Still yet to hear back from Telstra (got the initial order and account opening emails but nothing else) regarding my wifes account (coming from Boost). Do you think its worth porting to Telstra prepaid before I follow them up with a call?

    • I have moved on… I went to Vaya 18 plan… you might want to consider that. Or Vaya 24. Looks good value. Optus 4G thou.

      • Not interested in Optus. I'll go back to the Boost plan is all fails, but considering I havent received the cancellation I thought switching to Telstra prepaid may increase my chances.

        • Fair enough. This whole thing is a waste of time for me… sadness!

The Live Chat ask me to to port to Telstra Pre-Paid first, because the promotion ends 30 June 2015…

I'm not that brave to port my number when there is no definite deal.

  • I think everyone who is porting is in for a bit of a wait while their team checks it all.
I don't plan on using the account any time soon.

  • I still don't get why it's only for pre-paid Telstra customers… Surely taking away business from their competitors will be much more valuable.

It's like they're actually trying to keep client faith/honour, but at the same time ballsing it up.

/I was with Telstra for many years, ported away a couple of years ago as they became noncompetitive. Would come back for this competitive deal, though.

If they try charge u more than advertised on that page, show them that. If that fails- https://www.tio.com.au/

    • Thanks kev98. So this pdf will prove there was no invitation required to take up the offer.

      • Yep. Any old prepaid would do.
The new site explicitly states you must be a previous customer…

    • +1

      here is latest version http://docdro.id/14ie3

As of now it does state you need to have been invited, but as per previous PDF, it mentioned nothing about it being invitation only last Friday

      • When will they learn. This can also be misinterpreted as an actual invite to existing prepaid customers. It say invitation only for. It should actually say for selected invited prepaid customers etc.

        • lol yes i see what you're saying. The whole promo has been an absolute disaster. Probably costing them more now then if they actually honored the deals

        • I see what you mean. It should say "For Telstra Pre-Paid Customers By Invitation Only"

      • It's strange how they waste time editing a web page that is inactive (since both phones are out of stock) rather than just removing it.

        • They'll edit it, change the address then send it out again (privately) to eligible Telstra customers. Just you wait…

  • +1

I was just told that i need to have received the email myself to get the deal. Since i am a telstra pre-paid customer the sales person told me that i will receive an email as soon as the ohones are back in stock. Apparently they are in contact with the manufacturers.

    • I got a similar response.

      Telstra Rep
Thank you for waiting Ronald, I really appreciate your interest for this exclusive offer that we sent out to all of our prepaid customer.. as it shows we still dont have availability of the stock
      Telstra Rep
but not to worry coz we were informed that it will be replenish soon..
      Telstra Rep
I strongly suggest to watch out for it.. keep the link and once the stock is replenished do your application on line..
      Ronald
      For the same offer?
      Ronald
It just doesn't make sense to me
      Telstra Rep
yup.. same offer.. this is still going till the 29th of this month
      Ronald
Because those phones are showing available for $70/month, so the phones aren't actually out of stock
      Telstra Rep
yup that is right.. there are numbers of unit that were allocated for this promotion.. we also have to keep stocks for the same model for the customer who would like to take it on a regular plan.

"We're sorry. A technical error has occurred and we've been delayed processing your online order. We're working to resolve the issue and will keep you updated."

Porting from boost. Did the activation around 30 hours ago.

    Wait and see I guess…

    • I got the same. I'm going from Encore to this and my credit runs out tonight. Wait time is over 20mins. to talk to a consultant.

    • Yep, same here. Got less than a week before I get slugged for another month on my plan.

      • Same here. Please keep us updated if anyone hears back from Telstra.

      • Luckily, I've got another 25 days for a recharge!

    • Got the same SMS just 30 mins ago

My order was shipped out via StarTrack and was being returned to sender and sent back today, upon talking to live chat they said it was due to a failed delivery or issue with address, as I inserted a different address for delivery to whats on my account details (I just moved houses recently).

I have since updated my address and telstra said they would re-process my order and ship out the phone.
