  • What's the advantage of having Windows and Android?

    • +5

You can run windows programs and android apps on the same device……

      • I can't really think of any program I am wedded to in either OS. Not for what I'd be doing on a tablet anyway. Do you mean Office type business stuff?

        • +2

I personally use the Android side for games, Facebook etc and the Windows side for work. RDP, Office etc.

  • this for AU$200 and with USB 3.0 would be ideal

    • +1

Unfortunately the OEMs aren't too keen on using the Intel chipsets with USB 3.0. Ainol did in their mini PC, but stopped half way into production.

      • Why? License costs?

        • +1

Intel sells them the chips for a low price and Microsoft provides the Windows license for free. I'd say they want to maximise profits as it it costs extra to get a better Z3735/Z3736 chip that supports USB 3.0.

  • google play store pre-installed?

    • Yes.

  • Any deals for Chuwi Hi8?

    • +1

We have a very special deal for the Hi8 coming up.

      • when?

        • Monday. Tuesday at the latest.

        • @Clear:Thanks, looking forward to it

        • @doctorwatson: Thanks to Store Rep posting limits, I'll be able to post a deal for the Chuwi in 2 1/2 hours.

Is it possible to remove the Windows install and recover the wasted space?

Is there likely to be an upgrade to Lollipop (v5.0)?

    • +1

Yes, there are currently guides online and Youtube on how to have Windows only.

Teclast have released Android 5.0 beta firmware for it so far. They've also released Remix OS for it as well, but AFAIK that's a beta too.

      • +2

The neg is a bit harsh, [not from me lol] but Mathew was wanting to take the Redmond virus off, not blind Sauron's eye…

      • Any plans for Lollipop on X89? I just finished cleaning all the Chinese crap from that one and it's a great tablet apart from the KK.

        • At this stage I have not heard anything, but you never know.

  • Is the Teclast X98 Air 3G on special as well?

    • Not at this stage unfortunately.

      • How about Android 5.0 with 4G (Optus Frequencies)?

That I would be prepared to pay serious money for.

        • Once Lollipop is out of beta it will be perfect for you as it has the 2100MHz frequency that Optus uses.

  • Can anyone suggest a suitable keyboard portfolio? Not bothered about price.

  • This is a good price.

I have the Teclast X98 Air 3G 64GB version which I bought for AUD 300. I think the only differences in the models is that this one has no built in 3G or GPS.

  • I have the Teclast X89, great little tablet and it has a glass screen so you don't need a screen protector. Some of the Chuwi ones have plastic screens (you need to check) and a plastic screen scratches unless you keep using screen protectors.
Intel and 64GB, I might have to have a close look at the X98 because only thing I don't like about the X89 is android 4.4 not 5.0 and the screen is a bit small.

    • how long does your X89 battery last?

  • Do you have 7" tablet dual boot with 3G and GPS functions?

    • I have not seen any 7" tablets with both 3G and GPS. There are some 8" tablets that only have 3G and 9"+ with both.

  • Awesome been looking for a good deal for a while, can you answer if these are going to be able to work on windows 10 without any issues, specifically i'm worried about drivers.

    • Yep it sure can. This post shows it running on one of the dev previews and there are longer videos on Youtube showing it too. It is showing the Air 3G, but the only difference between the two is that the Air 3G has GPS and… 3G.

  • Has anyone actually used this tablet or the x89 outdoors and find it bright enough, I bought the chuwi vi8 and its totally useless outdoors, even in the shade outside, and the Android side couldn't be used with otg usb hubs at all. but it was 100bucks so cant complain.
any review on the battery life, screen brightness and otg limitations would be very much appreciated!

    • I have the x89, a dud unit that battery only lasted 20 minutes
problem buying from companies like these is shipping the faulty product back would cost you a lot more……

  • just realised this x98 doesnt have direct os switch, you actually have to shutdown manually by pressing the hardware key and select os in bios compared to the chuwi that just switches with one press of a software button, which allows remote access and stuff.

  • Hi CLear or Geekbuying Salesperson. I recently purchased this product with DHL shipping, however on my order status, it says standard shipping. Is there a way you can fix this? My order number is #3395377. I could not reach their cs. Thank you

  • Hi All
Brought one of these and it arrived today, I cannot get it to dual boot, all the manual etc is in chinese, the android side doesn't work well at all, like tapping an icon generally throws you into the setings menuregardless of what you're tapping

Looking on the net for instructions to get it dual booting found you press volume + and hold down power button on reboot, but this does NOT bring up a selection menu like its supposed to. even though packaging indicates win 8 model it appears its not installed or whatever.

I'll hold off saying I've been had if clear or someone with one can offer some solutions in case I'm not holding my mouth the right way, but at this stage its a big disapointment
    Shannon

    • As I don't own one I can't test the dual booting. I'm assuming you've followed the many youtube tutorials?

I'd recommend contacting [email protected] but if you don't have any luck with them let me know and I'll try and contact someone from GB directly.

  • Hi Clear
Thanks for looking at the issue, after a lot of struggle I have managed to get it dual booting into windows, seems the battery was a bit low for it all to work. Now its fully charged I'm getting some kind of chinese update ota when shutting windows down. Maybe after this it will work as it s meant to.

I'll let everyone know how it goes

    • That would probably explain it as devices are purposely shipped with less battery juice to maintain their lifespan. Teclast has probably pushed some OTA firmware to the device. I've seen Chinese builds of Android 5.0 so far.

  • after waiting ages for windows to do some "windows update" downloading then rebooting and getting very wierd intermittent progress on whatever (I cant read chinese) windows no longer supports touch screen and is very wonky when used with a usb keyboard so its a no go for me, I cannot understand how the manufacturer can get away with a chinese version of windows to a non chinese mkt and as read on many forums windows is NOT activated and requires a key etc etc
stay away from these as they may be decent specced but way to hard to get happening out of the box and why should the consumer have to fork around to get what he pays for. time to make some waves

    • You need to set the language to English if it has come with Chinese by default. I'd recommend doing a rollback on the updates as you likely installed the optional updates which have killed the touchscreen. Windows Update is notorious for breaking stuff with their optional driver updates as they normally install the wrong one.

If Windows is not activated on it then you should contact Geekbuying as that is definitely not normal.

  • Hi Clear
Thanks again for your advice. I have made all the necessary changes to the Language settings as well as locale set to Brisbane and time zone stuff.so all is set for AU English, US kbd, Au time and date

But I still see chinese next to system stuff like the shutdown info,

    no english
    sleep
    shut down or
    reset

    as per normal just chinese

I'd expect changing languages and stuff to alter the system messages?

I feel its a chinese version of windows and all updates are matched to that chinese version Hence the Chinese text persists

I'd be interested in a non time consuming way to remove the exisiting chinese win 8.1 and install an anglicized win 8.1

I have emailed Geekbuying support describing the problems together wth the fact the bezel isnt "clipping shut" on one side and clicks "snap" shut then pops back out when pressure is released, but they haven't had time to get and respond to me yet.

I'm happy to try to rollback the updates, however I'm wondering what updates would overwrite the touch screen driver?

I'll have a go and get back to you on my progress
    Shannon

  • Update to my previous posts re problems with windows activation, loose bezel, language and touch screen problems

Contacted geekbuying support who I found prompt, sympathetic but not all that helpful due to some language difficulties, but very willing to assist though and offer a suitable win win solution.

I can't fathom why the bezel was warped and springing back from closed but after some firm pressing it now seems to be in place and locked down, support agrees some bumping during transport may have caused it. The touchscreen problem in windows appeared to be a calibration issue with screen calibration a forum post somewhere gave instructions on turning some feature in "tablet & pens" off which made it come good.

some windows auto updates needed removing and reinstalling and its fine now, perhaps a slow connection corrupted a driver dl?

Android works ok now waiting on a otg u/g to 5.

All in all the device now performs as it should outta the box, but the question remains as a consumer should I have to spend a lot of time (hrs) fiddling to get obvious things like activation, language, touchscreens working?

Thanks to clear for advice and assistance

    Shannon

    • Definitely not. I'd say the tablet was overlooked in both Taipower and Geekbuying's quality control. However, I'm glad that you've got it all sorted and hopefully you're happy?
