      Yea, why not?

      • +2

warranty issues, non existent customer support, bogus operation practices, poor quality merchandise. Something as sensative to damage as a CPU I would not want to save a few bucks over a local genuine supplier. Anyhow, each to their own. Of course those people done over in a few weeks by Kogan HK will not come back and revoke their negative strike on my comment above…

        • I've bought multiple things from kogan including camera's and phones. Never had an issue with them

    • +2

Have you ever had a CPU fail for reasons that weren't your own fault?

      • -1

        yes

        • Fair enough. In the 15ish I've owned, I haven't.

  • +8

Just bought the last i7 4790k. Impulse buy. Go (profanity) yourself, OP :(

    (jk <3) (not really jk)

    • +4

Bought one too few days ago with the $50 voucher promotion going on in conjunction with Kogan's 10% off tech product, effectively bringing it down to just under $350 after cashrewards. Unbeatable price!

      • Definitely a great buy and so is this deal!

      • me too. lets hope we get the $50 voucher.

    • +1

Haha same mate, but you won't regret it for that price. Such a sick processor, the 4GHz base with no overclocking or 3rd party cooler is unbeatable. Also hex cores have very little benefit over this CPU for 99% of users, and the new mobo, DDR4 ram etc ends up making them such an expensive upgrade.

    • +2

Yep, picked this one up on Friday. Got the 34" Dell curved as well :)

      • damn it… was researching between the EVGA and Gigabyte one.

I settle on the EVGA one and it sells out…

        • Back in stock, it seems to go in stock every few hours or so.

  • +7

By the time you receive the cpu from Kogan hk, the Broadwell chipset released. You probably can buy it for the same price from msy, imo. Not to mention their bad service!

    • Broadwell should be a lot more expensive than Haswell since they all come with Iris/eDRAM.

      • Im saying the current cpu model will most likely be dropped due to Broadwell release

        • +12

Intel CPUs tend to just get phased out and replaced rather than reducing in price.

  • +3

Been contemplating the Xeon … You bastard. :(

  • rip no more i5-4590

  • +2

Ordered the Intel i5 4690K CPU on Friday. Don't forget cash back rewards. They keep putting up 1 left, it sells and comes back. Must be a marketing ploy. Hope doesn't take too long to arrive.

  • +3

    Thanks OP, some nice bargain.

Please also note price different from kogan.com.au and price on kogan eBay are much higher, one example

Intel NUC 5th Generation i3-5010U, on eBay AU $391.88 and Kogan $346.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Intel-Next-Unit-Computing-Kits-NU…

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/intel-next-unit-of-computing-ki…

and Intel Core i5-4690K eBay $321 and Kogan $289.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Intel-Haswell-Unlocked-Core-i5-46…

    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/intel-haswell-unlocked-core-i5-…

Because of eBay high fees, or Kogan just jack up the price during eBay 20% promotion

  • The i7 4790K is sold out — if someone can please strike it out from the list.

    • +1

      It's back in stock now

  • The I7 4790K is all sold out again:(

    • +2

looks like they add one every few minutes, keep refreshing

  • I got the i7-4790k and the evga gtx970 as they didnt have the gigabyte one listed last night and have finally stopped drip feeding the evga and changed to the Gigabyte. BTW can the evga one be OC'd to the same speed as the Gigabyte OC is.
    AND….
Can anyone recomend a Motherboard for the i7 CPU.
    Thanks All.

    • +1

Can anyone recomend a Motherboard for the i7 CPU

Really depends on your budget/needs. Since you have a 'K' processor you really should be getting a Z97 motherboard so that you can actually make use of the ability to overclock.

They range from $130 to $400 depending on features, e.g. x number of ports (USB, SATA, LAN, M.2), SLI for multiple Nvidia GPUs, built in WiFi/Bluetooth and so on.

      • Thanks.

      • I got the Gigabyte z97x UD5H for $180 from Kogan

        • How? And when?

    • I'm looking at the Asrock Z97 Killer. Seems like the best all-rounder for <$200 with mostly high feedback.

    • Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H seems like the best option. (that I know of..16 phase for quad OC)
      https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/gigabyte-z97x-ud5h-socket-1150-…

      • I've updated this deal and included some motherboards. You can get that model for $203 from their Ebay store. The UD3H version is a little cheaper and should overclock pretty similarly.

    • +1

I don't know about exact models, but some perspective on GTX970 clock speeds. For a regular card it is 1050Mhz or something; if it is a factory overclocked model it can be anywhere up to 1300Mhz or so. The thing is though pretty much any GTX 970 can be overclocked to ~1400Mhz (whether it's a regular or factory overclocked model), so it is very unlikely you would have issues OCing the EVGA card to the same speed as the Gigabyte card.

Your post confused me a bit, but if you're planning to SLI an EVGA card with a Gigabyte card there may be issues there. I know EVGA 970s have issues overclocking with EVGA's other 970 models, but I don't know how they work with different branded cards.

      • Thanks.
I thought that might be the case so I'm not too worried about buying the vanilla version, but I suppose the factory OC'd ones have been burn tested. Also if I sli, buying a second vanilla one will turn the $20 (or whatever it was) difference into a $40 saving. hehe!

  • +1

BTW all….Kogan have just dropped the price on the i7-4790k to $413 plus deliv and the Gigabyte gtx 970 to $444 plus deliv. (damn) I could have saved another 40 bucks!

    • …sorry…wrong site! I was looking at Kogan direct. Its getting late.

  • Excellent prices considering the low AUD!

  • when i checked yesterday it was out of stock..did they get more?

  • +1

Do these oc well? What speeds are generally achievable?

    • +1

Average overclocks for 4690K and 4790K should be around 4.5Ghz, overclocking above that area usually isn't worth it because of how much more voltage is required.

  • +4

Got a bunch of components off Kogan over the last week during the 10% off and $50 voucher promotion. Some components arrived from overseas within days; others haven't even been sent yet.

Other notable deals include 250GB Samsung 850 Evo SSD for ~$130, 2x4GB RAM for ~$83, and EVGA 650W 80+ Gold PSU for ~$120 (also available in 750/850/1000W).

  • I missed out on the Intel G3258. I'm thinking about taking the plunge and building my first PC. Oh well, I'll just have to pay $10 more for the futu one

  • +1

    Just snagged a 4790K. I'll sell my 4770K making it a cheap upgrade :)

    • +1

      Just snagged a 4790K. I'll sell my 4770K making it a cheap upgrade :)

      What…?

The 12.5% difference in the base clock can easily be made up with the 4770K by overclocking. Since you'll be selling the old one used (presumably), how much will this 'upgrade' cost you???

      • The 4770K I have isn't a great overclocker. It only reaches 4.3Ghz @ 1.3v. I trust the 4790K will overclock a little better.

It'll only cost me $70 or so for the swap, so it's not too bad.

  • Can confirm it doesn't take 4 weeks to come if you are located in Brisbane, it took me more like 1.5 weeks for mine to come.

  • Thanks OP, picked up a 4790k CPU + GTX980 for $968.09 - absolute bargain!

  • +1

Being that the entity is Kogan HK, and not AU. How is warranty handled?

  • I wonder if upgrading to the i7 will save me any energy bill? (currently on FX-8350)

    • +2

CPU is generally not a energy killer. Your GPU and monitor are probably the highest power consuming parts!

      • Yeah I had a read online and it looks like it's probably not worth upgrading to i7… as it costs about $500 (CPU + mobo). Also the energy cosumption difference isn't really that big either. (interesting video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBeeGHozSY0)

  • What motherboard would you pick for a HTPC connected to a 4K Tv? - decent sound card and features etc.

  • The Xeon has been out of stock the whole night AFAIK :(

  • I got the GTX 960, primarily for the nvidia shield tv in about to buy.

I would have liked more power but the Step Up from there costs a lot and I'll only be playing at 1080 so it should be fine. The title it struggles on is assassins creed unity, all others seem fine on high/ultra.

  • How about SSD? The SanDisk Ultra II 960gb can be had for $428 from Futu_Online (shopping express apparently). Cheapest on staticice is $479 from Scorptec.

  • Wouldn't mind the 4790k, but it doesn't look like it's coming back now

    • Don't worry, the last one just be sold on "28-Jun-15 10:21:31 AEST". so it looks like they release 1*4790K per hour, just check it again around 11:30. Good luck:)

      • Thanks, I finally got one. Can't wait to get it in my Hackintosh!

  • I managed to snag one of the 4790k, Gigbayte GTX970m Samsung 850 Pro 256GB, Corsair 750W RM-750, as well. It does seem like it's drip fed every hour if you look at the purchase history from other people. So keep refreshing! What type of RAM did other OZB peeps get with this one? Water cooler? Still deciding on those parts, but will source locally I think.

    • Good question, would like to know what the water cooler as well.

    • I got all the same parts as you but an evga 970. I bought the Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H mobo. I will be sourcing my ram locally, prob MSY. There was nothing of note for ram prices in the ebay deals.

BTW….water cooling system around $450 from MSY….I think I'll pass. hehe.

      • I would recommend Amazon for ram. Delivery fees are very low <$10.

  • ANy good laptop RAM for the Lenovo i5 L420?

  • Whats the delivery time like? Really keen to pick up an i7 4790k

Edit: Didnt see the OP properly. 2-4weeks.

    • 2-4 weeks is just a guess, other people said they've gotten their stuff quicker.

      • I was tried to grab one, but wasn't able to. Tried a few times over the course of the day :(

        Really unfortunate.

  • +8

I love the psychological games they are playing with people by the drip feeding of stock. Stops people from sitting on the fence. People think differently when there's plenty of stock and they think "I can buy whenever I want", as opposed to giving the impression of limited stock and people think "have to buy while I still have a chance." Seems like we are all falling for it.

    • +1

Yeah it's (profanity). Makes me dislike Kogan in general…

  • are the mainboard a good deal? Asus z97-A is only 195$ at MSY

  • wow they are selling out in seconds.

    • dodgy/10

      • Thats what i thought. Or price error. Seller been around since 2005 but only has 35 positives.

    • How good is ebay/paypal protection in cases like these? Why would anyone be foolish enough to actually buy these :)

    • Scam if I've ever see on.

  • blergh, never going to get this 4790K.

    • +1

Kogan refresh stock around quarter past the hour.

      • thanks, checked the purchase history and refreshed at 12:17. snapped it up! winner :)

    • All the prices are more expensive then the deal is saying? Also when does this "deal" end?

  • The way I see it, if some of the hardware screws up, you've got 6 months to lodge a PayPal claim. You'll know pretty early on if the hardware is okay or not. That's why I purchased a cpu and gpu, rare to get such a discount and with PayPal protection, what have you got to lose?

  • +1

Wow, they really do fluctuate in stock. I wonder if adding to cart "briefly" holds the item.

    • How come all the links i click they are 100$ more expensive that what the deal is saying?

      • +1

Nick, the price is after 20% discount coupon.

  • Every link i click, the prices are more expensive then what is advertised in the deal?
Also when does this "Deal" end?

    • You have to add the code C20EXTRA during checkout for the cheaper price (20% off). The code is valid until 29th. So today is the last day.
      Check link https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/199852 for details.

      • So its finished now? :(

        • NO….tonight, I would say midnight. Still valid 29th last I checked.
