ME Bank - $50 Cashback + 5% PayPass Rebate for 6 Months (Today Only)

2315

$50 cashback for the first 1,000 new customers to open an EveryDay Transaction Account on 29 June. Must make 3 purchases within 30 days.

Additionally, 5% PayPass cashback for the first 6 months - this offer doesn't appear to be dependent on being in the first 1,000 customers.

(I can't guarantee that they haven't already hit 1,000 people - the link they are currently advertising on their website doesn't include the $50 cashback, but this link is from a Facebook ad. A number of people have been saying they've had issues with ME Bank cashback deals in the past, so take up this offer at your own risk.)

I wish they don't start a new promo before they close/finalize the previous one!

We are still waiting for the $100

    • +2

I am still annoyed and waiting for the $100 promotion

    • Then there was a $50 promo after that…

  • Is there a benefit using the referral codes?

Looks like the $75 one is looking better.

  • Too much effort for $50, pass.

    • +6

or, "Too much effort for $50, 5% PayPass"

  • +14

mebank should be banned for not honouring their deals.

    • +3

I did get the $25 cashback from their Co-op Bookshop deal, but it seems a lot of people are saying they're not very reliable, which sucks :(

    • +2

Even if they offer $200 i still rather go for ING's $75 because i have a better chance of getting it. ME can stick it. Unless ME bank can prove their honesty, they should not have a place here, MEbankScott take note!

      • +1

I didnt get ING's $75. I called them at least 3 times and each time they told me they are processing it. I gave up in the end, maybe i should give up my OZB badge 😒

        • It took about a month to get mine from ING, my condolence to you. On the other hand there's very little chance to see anything from "ME blank" going by past experiences from many here

  • +4

    what a joke.

  • +6

If anyone has not received their cash back when promised then I suggest contacting the financial services ombudsman. They can help resolve the issue.

    • +3

Has it been 30 days since the promotion opened?

      • +1

        4 days to go..

  • -4

I also didn't get the cashback from a previous deal. They claimed I already had an account (apparently I was a joint card holder) but I don't remember ever using the account.

Rather than encouraging me to use their card and promote their service, they got me offside by hiding behind an inflexible policy. It looks like others have had issues too.

    • +2

but I don't remember ever using the account.

Well, not remembering doesn't negate the fact you already had some sort of account with them. However, I am still waiting for my cashback from months ago. I don't usually neg, but I'm going to with this one.

  • +7

REALLY? is this a joke? not only did they not finalise the $100 offer but they sent out two more new ones?? Offers from this bank are pure bait and switch.

    • +4

I fail to see what they've 'switched' it with. I wish it was switched with something.. cos right now it's still looking like nothing :P

  • +1

ME Bank = high fees and woeful website that is down more often than not …. and they don't honour their deals.

  • +1

    They will not honour it.
I participated twice in ME bank promotions in 2014, never received my cashback.

    • I participated as a brand new customer in one of these ME bank $50 cashback in 2014 and they honoured it.

It's probably because you previously had an account that you didn't get it.

      • I signed up in 2014 using someone's promocode from ozbargain wiki page, but I didn't receive my $50.
Couple of months later someone else from ozbargain opened an account using my promocode, but again I didn't receive my $50.

The problem with ME Bank promotions is that there are a lot of conditions that are impossible to verify - for example I don't know if that person who used my promocode made 3 transactions in the first month or not.

        • +1

Or they can pull the "you were not among the first x000 customers" BS.

  • +4

I did refer someone in the DEC 2014 promotion and never received my cashback. They deliberately delayed sending out the card so the referrer could not use the card within the 30 days.

  • +3

referred twice in 2014 and 2015, never received any cashback.

  • +3

And they will not honor the 5% also

    • +1

In my experience (Co-op Bookshop deal) they honoured the 5% for me, but their cashback payments are pretty slow - ING is definitely a better bank

    • Yes, it does seem like they are scamming.

      I got a cashback from them today… $2.80

Problem is the $2.80 is not 5% of any of my 4 transactions. Nothing adds upto $56!

All different stores, different days. Should be more or less (if it is delayed)

Anyway it is cut, they are not honouring the 5% either.

      • +2

In my experience, they do cashbacks in lump sums.. you'll get a cash dump of some random amount which is a total across multiple transactions (happy to be corrected if I'm wrong here, anyone who is reading!). I've not had my account open for too long either so I'm still getting used to it all but that's how it very much appears to me.

Makes it a hell of a lot more difficult to track the cashbacks, that's for sure. :/

        • +2

It's their smokes and mirrors, so to speak

        • @bonz:
          *smoke

        • @Son ofa Zombie: you get 5% cashback when buying smokes and mirrors.

        • @altomic: haha, yes, i was going to make the same joke, but held back because mentioning tobacco-related words often upsets many OzBargainer's these days.

        • +1

@Son ofa Zombie: we must think of the children.

I referred 4 people from here in 2014 and got the credit fine however referred someone for $100 promo and yet to see the credit

  • Worse than Citibank

  • +1

I've seem to have quiet a good experience with MEbank so far..

Although they usually came a couple of weeks later and sometimes as lump sums, i always received my 5% cash back during the promotion. they also honoured the $25 co-op $25 rebate deal and received $50 from an earlier $50 referral deal..

I've found there website quiet bad compared to my other 2 banks though..

Those neging purely about the recent $100 cashback offer should note that it hasn't even been the 30 days you needed to wait since the deal started and although correspondence so far has been quite bad there you haven't left enough time to wait before drawing conclusions

  • I never got 5% rebate or any cashback from ME bank EVER!!! Eventhough I was eligible for the 5% cashback, customer support had no idea why I was not getting it. Finally I moved to ING which is way better

  • +3

The hate is strong in this one. Where's the ME Bank rep to respond?

  • I am getting 5% rebate (not instant, but after few days) but never got the promo

  • Is anyone not even get cashback with their purchases like me? tried two weeks ago, the purchase did not trigger a cashback… ???? WHAT??

    • I've generally found their cashbacks to be pretty slow but they've always come through eventually for me

      • They're quoting within 30 days of each transaction when I spoke to them - slower than ING but 2.5x the rate :D

  • Does anyone have a screen shot of this promotion on the Facebook page? The link is now dead and customer service are asking for information about the promotion that I signed up with and there is no mention of this on the FB page that I have found.

  • Email received from MEBank>

As per our Terms and Conditions of this offer, customers are eligible for a $50 bonus if they:

Provided all of the above conditions have been met receive the $50 into their ETA within 30 days of the third eligible purchase. Customers are not eligible for the $50 bonus if all the conditions above are not met.

I don't recall there needing to be a promo code entered. There certainly wasn't mention of one above.

    Positive vote revoked.

  • signed up on the 29th. took some time to verify everything. finally got my card and account letter on the 10th.
now told not eligible as it expired.

i knew it was too good to be true, so have gone and cancelled everything and will be steering clear of ME bank in future.
