Exetel Naked ADSL2+ Plans Upgraded. $50 Per Month for 25GB+60GB and NO LINE RENTAL

296

This Naked ADSL2+ broadband internet package takes away line rental and instead gives you a 'DID' number so you can make and receive inexpensive voip calls. Call any landline number in Australia for 10c untimed, and mobiles are only 22c per minute.

The 50GB+60GB plan is $60 per month, or the $35 plan allows you to pay for what you use at a rate of just $1 per GB or $0.50 offpeak.

There is a $60 line activation charge, and you will need some hardware to use a normal landline phone handset for voip calls, but if you're already paying that to Tel$tra each month then you could save up to $700 a year or more. If you're an existing Exetel customer then consider updating your plan to these new offerings.

The plans have been upgraded just recently, probably to follow TPG's lead. Their ADSL1 plans have also been updated. I've been with Exetel for more than a year and heard about this by subscribing to their newsletter.

Edit: There doesn't appear to be a shaping option, but if you go over the download limit the excess charges are $1.50 per GB which is reasonable (and possibly unrivalled?).

sorry mate, tpg naked still has better value than this exetel. for the voip u can join with pennytel to save your money.

don't like paying extra for my broadband. this extra cost can kill you later on.

    • +1

      TPG's $50 naked plan is 15GB+15GB and their offpeak is 2am to 8am compared to Exetel's 12am to 12pm.

The Exetel voip is included, while Pennytel I think has no DID? Where is this 'extra cost'? I know I can choose shaping in the account settings.

I must've overlooked the 'better value' that you're referring to.

      • -3

not sure mate if you have option to cap your speed or not

        NF/22NoTel $60.00 No Line Needed $50.00 25 GBytes + $1.50/GB thereafter 60 GBytes + $1.50/GB thereafter

The NAKED ADSL2 line provided in this cost CANNOT be used to make "standard" (PSTN) telephone calls.
**** NO CHARGE DOES NOT MEAN UNLIMITED. Please check 9.1.d here: http://www.exetel.com.au/a_acceptable_use.php

Ur underestimating the advantage of contract length you get with Exetel.. Only 12 months rather than 18 for the same connection fee. Plus TPG have Shocking customer service probably becos ur speaking to some donkey in the philipies and take 2 weeks just to get sumthing attended to.. Not sure abt exetel but if they have their customer servce base in AUS where it should be!

      • […] some donkey in the philipies […]

Are you referring to people in the Philippines?

Not sure abt exetel but if they have their customer servce base in AUS where it should be!

Exetel's support is apparently based in Sri Lanka.

        • -2

hahahhahaa. telstra call centre in australia, but they also get highest complaint among other isp companies.

so based in australia or not, is not related with the customer service level that u get, it is depend how shit is the company.

  • Be Aware:
If you go over your download limit you have to pay for it, other ISP's shape you

Also Exetel VOIP is more expensive then Pennytel. (Yes Pennytel have DID's)

This is a good deal however, you can save a lot of money using this plan as long as you don't go over.

    • As mentioned above, I know I have a shaping option in the account settings, and Pennytel has no DID. Even so, Pennytel can still equally be used if Exetel is your ISP.

      • pay $5 extra u get did from pennytel and free credit as well.

        • I have to agree, I don't like paying extra for my broadband/phone…

      • I'm not sure what rock you live under but Pennytel have DID's.

I mentioned that Exetel VOIP is more expensive because it shouldn't be used when deciding which ISP to go with.

Also I know Exetel used to have 2GB worth of shaping at the end before they started charging you, but I don't think they do this for new plans as I can't find any information saying so.

        • -2

sorry mate, i am replying to inherentchoice, he said pennytel has no did.

      • -1

        for ur information

        http://www.pennytel.com.au/Free-Calls/Call-plans-and-rates.a…

Our most popular plan for high volume users.

80 free calls and 50 free SMS per month to over 70 destinations including Australia*, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia*, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the UK* and the USA.

        AUD$5 Monthly subscription
Talk as long as you like for only AUD$0.08 to over 70 destinations
One free Traditional Phone Number (DID)
No commitment, contract or minimum terms
Per second billing - pay only for the time you use
No flag fall or connection fees
        Free PennyTel to PennyTel calls

        • The alternative is just buying a DID for $15 so you don't have to pay a monthly fee.

          • @samfisher5986: but paying this $15 you get to keep you current PSTN as your VOIP number, on pennytel pretty sure you would get a new number.

Also inherentchoice where in account settings can you change the shaping option?

            Cheers

            • -2

@rewstar: i still can't find in exetel term and condition mentioned that they have option to cap your speed. no idea if this is only available to the existing user only.

              • @dragonrabit: The instructions I had are:

Go to "ADSL -> Change my service", scroll down the bottom and then click "Make Change" and select the appropriate time you want shaping to be enabled

I have to admit though that it appears to be gone now so it must've changed when I selected this new plan or they must've changed their mind about the shaped options that they added. I guess it's evidence of their poor customer service.

Still, when you pay as little as you do for it I think presents a saving compared to almost any other alternatives. $1.50 per GB is really nothing compared to the $1 per MB that others have. Realisticly this can save some $700 a year given that Telstra used to charge $80 a month for phone use and line rental… and for these reasons I obviously disagree that it could be worth a neg.

                • @inherentchoice: mate, u are comparing something that more expensive than exetel.

i am comparing something that obvious plan that cheaper than exetel.

how telstra make money before, coz a lot of their customer exceed their limit. that's why a lot of their customer complaining.

especially with adsl2+, 1 hr I can download 2GB, if I forgot to turn off my pc, it will be a night mare bill to me. prefer something that has safety net.

                  • @dragonrabit: I'm sorry that you think $1.50 per GB could be a nightmare bill.

                    • @inherentchoice: if u just exceed 1 gb only of course won't be a nightmare, imagine if got 50 or 100 gb extra, how much is it?

do u really have adsl2+? this toy same as high performance car with P plate driver. no safety net = disasters

                      • +1

@dragonrabit: Oh really Dragonbit - you are stretching things a lot here.

To "accidentally go over by 100GB's isnt easy and since you are so VOIP orientated you also miss one important point.

When you are shaped - you really cant make any VOIP calls, so while you dont pay the extra in broadband - you pay by having to use Telstra for your calls.

                        From their website - ADSL2+ 80GB with VoIP$49.99 80GB5 (40GB+40GB) Shaping speed 64K/64K

And why choose Pennytel - what about mynetfone with the whirlpool saver account - with a mitron box - its nothing per month and only $14.95 setup including hardware. With Pennytel you pay $50 or so for the hardware but you forget to mention that.

With your favorite - TPG I got shaped because their usage reporting system has gremlins - one day it said 10gb free the next it was 2gb, then back in the morning to 10gb - when it had nothing left. And their great customer service centre couldn't fathom it even when I sent screen shots of the usage on the website….

                        • @[Deactivated]: Just thought i'd add that while shaped 64k isn't particuarly great for VOIP (its still reasonable quality if you have QoS setup)

TPG 128k shaping is enough for VOIP if you select the right codec.

Then there's the fact that their newer plans have 512k and 1024k shaping.

                        • @[Deactivated]: at first, please check tpg website again.
                          $50 u get 30 gb
                          $60 u get 80 gb
both of them shaping speed at 128/128

second, thanks let me know about other trick with mitron box. but u still need to pay $5/month for DID. and get no free credit.

third, about tpg meter system. i love it, coz i know how to trick them. every month since i know this trick, i have exeed at least 15 gb from my data allowance every single month.

i always monitoring my usage daily basis.

but i still prefer something has safety net. coz one day i forgot to turn off my pc and the next day my download allowance was exceed.

                          • @dragonrabit: The trick is pretty obvious, the usage meter is just slow :P

Also the 512k and 1024k shaping plans are there, they just aren't for naked plans.

                          • @dragonrabit: one more thing, forgot to mentioned. with your netfone device, it is locked with netfone. therefore if there is better offer outside, u can't take that offer, except if u purchase other device.

for me initial investment $50 is better than $15 but it locked me from other better deals outside

                            • @dragonrabit: This thread is getting to be like a Whirlpool Fanbois thread -maybe its better to have it move over there. Why is it that everyone has to "justify" their purchases. You know CHOICE gives us competition and lower prices. The only thing people are more passionate about is Mac vs PC

Just some clarification - as in all fanbois threads.

The bar keeps jumping all over the place - so comparisons and responses to each are almost impossible. Misunderstandings and mixed product comparions are even here.

For Dragonrabid (the d is intentional). MNF whirlpool offer is $5 for DID PA not PM. Yes the box is locked as is all subsidised hardware, but the $15 is net shipped to you after $10 call credit and NO monthly fee BUT like everything the value will depend on the number of calls you make 10c vs 8c means nothing - but if you make a lot of calls then it is.

Juts like the Telstra debate - ie put it back in public hands - so it becomes "Telecom" - where most of the employees got their now ingrained "you cant touch me - I can do anything" attitude, these debates are about personal experiences.

My past experience with TPG - a customer for 5 years was great until something went wrong, and that was nasty, it's support was pathethic, so I switched to Exetel because it's system addressed the very issue that TPG couldn't fix with theirs. No doubt if I really have the same need for support from Exetel, one day with their quality I might get into trouble, but like TPG I expect that and hopefully another competitor still exists, unless the fanbois have killed off the competition.

And unlike many of the city dudes I can only get ADSL1 for a reasonable price, as none of these fantastic service providers see fit to put their ADSL2 boxes into my exchange even thought its ADSL2 capable. Why? because they cherry pick. So in reality like ALL businesses they really go where the dollar is. - Like us here LOL

                              • @[Deactivated]: when i start join with TPG, 2 months later i got issue, when they don't solve my issue, i just lodge my complaint to TIO.
Amazingly, the tech support call me all the time to fix my issue.
At the end, I become happy customer :)

                • +1

@inherentchoice: Excuse me while I go and submit a listing for DODO internet because its cheaper then Telstra….

      • +2

there is no shaping option with the new plans now

  • exetel have terrible customer service as well as bad data usage policies.

    • +3

      terrible customer service

      Agree.

However I have been a customer of Exetel for 4 years and I have never need to use one (yes, fortunate, I know). The network is reasonably stable and a lot of tools have been provided online to automate things.

      • +1

Exetel are cheap. If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

      • Ditto. Exetel customer for 3 years, never had an issue. Anything I thought was a problem was rectified by itself or very quickly by the tech support guys who actually know what they're doing.

Plans are great value, even though the TPG stuff looks good, Exetel do have much better off-peak times and allowances. Their off-peak is up to double TPG's 6 hour window.

Both good companies but definitely good value with Exe.

    • +1

I actually think they have great customer service,
the issue is the type of customers,
as a techie user, when I call in I can explain what is wrong technically and they are able to respond with a fix quickly and accurately, unlike other telco's who would ask you to just reboot, or reset the modem, or worse that you modem is faulty. (I have personally experienced all of these).

With Exetel my calls are quick, to the point and if not resolved on the call itself, I usually see updates on the forums soon enough.

  • The plan is ok but i rather go with TPG. You get capped to 512kb/s if you go over, which is ADSL1 speeds. Much better than paying extra.

  • I'm with exetel and can't get TPG were I live so this is a deal, however these new plans have been out for around 2 months now, can't give a + for it.

    • This is what the email sent 2 days ago says:

We have recently modified the current ADSL1 plans (in line with the modifications we made to the ADSL2 plans earlier this week) and these revisions include lower costs and larger downloads as well as reduced excess usage charges. Full details can be found on the web site or your user facilities.

  • +1

not a great deal looks more like isp advertising

    • Well their very own website claims:

Exetel does no advertising or marketing and engages in no other promotional activities preferring to use the money that those activities would cost to improve all aspects of its network and customer support services

      See http://www.exetel.com.au/business_plan_pricing_adsl2.php

      • when did ozbargain start costing money?

        lol

  • Exetel are the best ISP I have ever used. Unlimited off peak, Always up etc. great Deal.

    • unlimited to a point…

    • Its not unlimited offpeak. If you use more then 60gb you could easily be kicked off. You can figure out if you can use more then 60gb, but its basically 60gb.

      • umm…no. I am regularly over 60gb, no kickie off.

        • Of course, but you are obviously staying below the current limit. Its not unlimited.

          • @samfisher5986: so what is the current limit?

            • @kiwipride: You need to be an ADSL2 customer to know (its in your control panel)

I only use their 3G mobile plan so i'm not sure.

Last time I heard it was 80GB, but thats going to always change.

Remember that you don't get a warning, you just get kicked off. So knowing this amount is important.

And technically, if everyone on Exetel was to raise this average, you could get more, but until that happens… :)

              • @samfisher5986: Yeah it's 81gb at the moment. so 110gb is not too bad really. (for all those linux distros of course)

  • +1

    bargain, what bargain?

  • Makes iiNet's plans look pretty miserly by comparison…

  • I will always avoid excetel and advise my friends to do the same.
Just a quick read of one of the director's blogs should be enough to turn you away:
    http://johnl.blogs.exetel.com.au/
Previous experiences with exetel from when I was working as an IT monkey were not favorable.
    -just my opinion.

    • i agree with u Radar. TPG try to bring the cost down. other player show their tear, coz they can't compete as they still greedy with their fat profit margin.

i am looking forward for tpg offering their $10 monthly phone rental.

      • Tell John Linton about Exetel's fat profit margin and he'll ask where it is. From whatever profit they make a large amount of it goes to flora and fauna conservation programs.

Exetel donates one third of the profit it makes to various, community based, endangered species protection and regeneration programs around Australia and details on all of these programs can be found here: http://www.exetel.com.au/fauna_feat/

    • Wow, I knew he was a nut job, but that is crazy.

      In short:

I can't match TPG's value, so i'm going to bad mouth them on the internet!

He has a history of saying/doing crazy things.

I have revoked my vote and would neg it if I could.

    • I also agree. I went for a job interview there many years ago and the director was a major C**khead. Last time I was with them their support desk was an answering machine where you would leave your problem and they would get back to you. Really bad service imho.

    • Ha. One of my colleague actually worked under JL when he was in iGreen/Apple Communication. Definitely not the best manager he had :P

  • -1

The service at EXEHELL is terrible, I would not recommend anyone taking up this or any other offer!!!

    • lol. If you need "service" maybe you should be using Telstra. hehe

  • you get what you pay for
    I pay $40 for 5GB peak & 81GB Off-Peak (NAKED ADSL2)

Have had 2 problems, email sent and were resolved within 24hrs
They don't have enough phone support, but who's got time to call & wait anyways
They have a great forum where you get answers to most common issues.

    Have been with TPG earlier,
and I like the email support of Exetel better than TPG's half-decent phone support

    • But how do you email if your Internet is down tho?

The fact you don't get to talk to a human kinda says to me "We don't want to talk to dumb ass people so we'll listen to their problems and fix when we get time without getting bitched at"

Sure they might fix it within 24 hours, but in the mean time the customer is fretting, thinking they might not have got the message or are being ignored.

  • I've been with Exetel for years, and I've happily referred many of my friends, because I've never had a problem, and I can't find better value.

If I wanted painstakingly step-by-step customer service, I'd switch to Westnet or something, and pay the extra for it. I know what a modem is though, so I kinda don't need that…

  • I am with exetel - no problems at all. Great value. I have never spoken with anyone that works there though, all communication via text and email, but that actually suits me fine, I have never been in need of any further service, not would I want to pay for it!
