  • Stupid question but how does this compare to the $30 vodafail deal ?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/201890

    • +2

the vodafail deal is for data only.. this is data and unlimited calls.

      • is optus network better than vodafone?

        • +1

By far. Latest statistics show that the Optus network has the highest LTE data speeds on average in Australia at the moment.

        • @goddo2305: thanks

        • I trialled Vodafone for a couple of months then moved to Optus recently to test this.. Vodafone was quicker in most places in Perth, however reception wasn't quite as good. Got a better deal through Optus though so have stayed.

  • this seems like a really good deal…

    • +3

its not a good deal at all! if you get the prepaid $2 daily you will get 500Mb data everyday which is 15GB per month + Unlimited calls text, also you can charge it daily if you want not monthly!

      • +3

Exactly this. With $2 daily you pay the same amount over a 30 day month and get more inclusions. Plus, if you can survive a day without making calls or sending text and remaining connected you wifi you get a "free" day.

Also, last month this plan was only $50 but no free month so after 6 months you're behind.

        • I couldn't find anything about the free day for the $2 daily plan. Mind pointing it out for me :)

        • +1

          @Higibo:

$2 is deducted from your credit when you make the first standard national call, text or MMS, when you access Voicemail or use mobile internet after 12:00:00am (Sydney, NSW time). You are not charged the $2 usage fee on the days you do not use the service for any of these usage types.

        • @gilbarc:

Ah ok, I was thinking a free day of usage. Thanks.

        • @Higibo:

          Sorry, i wasn't totally clear

      • SOrry but it's a good deal for people who don't use ridiculous amounts of data every day. I get $10 off for having optus broadband too.

      • +4

The 500mb doesn't roll over though, so you're limited to 500mb per day (and if you go over it costs extra).

Personally I have days of high usage (when I'm tethering) and low usage (when I'm at home). YMMV

    • The only advantage is the 300 international minutes over the $2 daily. Unless you are restricted to calling a mobile number or someone with no Internet, the extra data more than makes up for this by using skype etc

    • +2

It was a better deal a week ago when you could get it for $50 a month online. No free month though at that point though.

      • +1

Yep agree 50 was a better deal and if you have broadband or can talk relatives into letting you setting your billing address there it was only $40 a month.

  • +2

I think this offer expired on the 7th of July: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/196494

The new deal is $60 for 8gb, but first month free

    http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobilephones/SimBYO?SID=con:BYO…

    • Oh you could be right. I just came across it on this page:
      http://www.optus.com.au/shop/cis/Mobile?subGroup=Post+Paid+M…

      • +1

the $50 plan was available up until sunday 05/07 (i got in on it last minute). And if you bundled it with your homephone/internet already with optus you get a further $10 off every month. You can share the data with upyo 5 devices (eg. I got my iPad hooked up to it) and they can share the 8gb. Pretty sweet deal for $40 a month, if you got in early enough…

        • Yeah I'm on that deal. Got a data share sim for my N7. Got my fiance onto that deal too and so i ended up with 6 months Netflix

    • +4

The previous one had 3 months Netflix too.

  • Wow.. this is exactly why I didn't buy amaysim shares.

    • 17.90$ vs 60$ ????

unless u really need the extra 3gb and intl calls/txt

  • I am starting to wonder if I should cancel my $45 unlimited telstra deal whilst i am in cooling of period and my S5 has not been opened out of the box yet.

    • if u sell ur S5 for around 500…over 24 months…that plan will cost you $25 per month…where u get unlimited calls, 2gb data and telstra coverage.

How can you compare to this sim only plan?

      • Been trying to sell it for $500 for around 1-2 weeks now… everyone is sending me messages "mate i'll offer you $300 cash today"…

        • +1

Mate, I will offer you 300 with any payment method of your choice ;)

        • +2

          @dreamz:
          Are drachma's ok?

        • I was getting offers around 400-420…but then finally someone serious bought from me fro 500.

        • @joshuah:
Payment methods mate.. not currency :) Currency remains AUDs Strictly!

        • +1

          @dreamz:
          Deals off then!

  • +2

This deal has expired on the 5th. I just tried to change. Instead I changed to the newer $45 plan from my old $45 plan.

    4GB OF DATA TO SHARE

UP TO 150 MINUTES FOR STANDARD INTERNATIONAL CALLS (To selected countries)

UNLIMITED STANDARD INTERNATIONAL SMS/MMS (To selected countries)

    • Yes my mistake. Updated post to reflect current offer.

      • That's ok. Though would really have liked that 8GB of Data

    • so if i sign up for this and they come out with a better deal, i cant just cancel and re sign up with the same number?

  • These latest Optus deals are really decent. If only I didn't have a stupid contract til December!!! They quoted 330 bucks to pay out my Iphone 5s….errrrr no I'll wait.

  • +4

If you don't need international calls the $2 a day deal would be better with Optus rather than the $60 a month wouldn't it?

    ~$60 a month ($2 a day) would get you 500MB a day (15GB a month) unlimited calls/sms…

    Unless I'm missing something

    http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/prepaid/plans#daily-plus

    • +3

Depends really. I have had to get my phone repaired a couple times this month and each time it uses more than 500MB to replace all my apps and stuff. It is pretty easy to use more than 500MB a day but I've never gone over 5gb in a month. There is really no point in having 15gb a month in data if you can only use it in 500MB increments.

    • +1

You also miss out on the free international texts as well as the calls.

Does the $2 deal involve you manually topping up every day?

      • I believe it can be automated but I've never used it

  • +1

I got it for $50 last week :)

    • but it was $45 last week?

      • He's talking about the 8gb plan. Yes, it was $50 last week. Unfortunately that deal expired on Tuesday, and it's now $60 for 8gb

    • +4

I'm getting it for $40/month… Bundled with existing broadband

      • +1

        Yeah same…great deal for $40 :)

  • -1

Can you sign up for 1 month and cancel? how does it work?

    • +1

Yes you can but make sure you cancel before you next billing will start other wise you will be billed for 1 more month. So join the plan and cancel the deal even after 1 week but you still get the 1 full month.

I am getting this for $40 too pretty sweet deal.

      • Done that before. It is a nightmare. So hard to get the bill right. Even it is free, I won't sign up again

  • The plan isnt really a good deal, the free month is alright tho. Im on the $2 daily prepaid deal at the moment, is there anything that beats it for data and unlimited calls/text?

    • +4

I find that I would rather have access to all my data at once, even if that means technically having less of it.

  • +1

Yeah i jumped on the $50 8GB deal - setup family share with the missus and I get a shit load of data because she hardly uses any.

Optus 4GB network is as good if not better than Telstra network in Adelaide where I have been testing it, you need a 700 band capable phone though.

    • +1

I think it really depends where you live.
where I am (parafield gardens), I can barely get 3g with optus and calls drops out frequently.
but with Telstra, I'm connect at 4g and getting 40mbps.
In terms of coverage i don't think you can beat telstra.
but in terms of price I can certainly say telstra is extremely expansive.

      • absolutely, I tested all the areas I commonly frequent around adelaide and I was getting better speeds on Optus, but sure it's not everywhere. Tested on misses 4GB phone that doesn't support the 700 band and it was always going back to 3G.

and you can confirm you phone support the 700 band?

        • +1

          yeh, i'm using iPhone 6

  • What does the 1 month access fee mean?

    • +2

the r must have been out to lunch

  • -1

Pretty sure this deal cost $50 pm which you can still get (with out a free month).. this is only worth it if you plan to piss off after a couple months

    • nope $50 ended as stated - it also included 3 months netflix which isn't much but still

      • -1

        MEh..

  • Does anyone know if the unused data on these plans rolls over to the next month? I'm a little bit confused – what's the difference between the linked plans and 'prepaid plans' (which are also no-contact)?

    • in prepaid plan you need to recharge your account when month ends, you can recharge whenever you like means after one month or few weeks but in sim only plans you authorise optus to deduct amount from you bank account directly after a month. Correct me if i am wrong

  • This is actually really good. I'm on the $30 dollar plan right now. When I first started it gave around 90 minutes (i don't remember now, i might be wrong) and 200Mbs of data. A few years ago i renewed it when it was changed to 180 minutes (or so) and 500Mb of data. A few days ago I realised it had changed again and now i'm getting unlimited calls and texts with 1Gb of data.

td;lr always check up on your plans, they may have better offers as time goes by

  • Great deal, thanks.

  • +1

Heard the Optus BYO offer $50 for 8GB had good demand so they opened it up to their Telesales team to cover those who missed out.

I just signed up ,the number I called was 1800500614, suggest calling it up as I'm not sure how long they will have it available.

$50 with 8GB Data Unlimited Calls and Sms Plus 300 International Min

    • I have just done the same using the online chat
