    Associated or Rep?

It helps if you read the post in an eastern european accent (Russian will do if you don't know Polish)
Pozter iz nyet Chineze, but all his submissions have been for the same shop.

But please correct price to $87 as shown by Gearbest. This is an Australian forum, and a Chinese vendor so no need for USB or Zloty either. (They bill in your choice of currency, right?)

  • Specification looks good

    • The 2GB version is good..

  • I assume these can run Netflix?
Can you access the normal Playstore on them?

  • But no USB3.0, no external analogue, power 2A so a bit hard for external portable hard drive, the rest is good for that price.

You might want to add that a remote is included.

  • A bit confusing… it states Octacore then in lists it as quadcore?
it states 5.1 then it says latest kitkat?
this is all on their web site where they offer you the product for sale!

anyone ran Plex on one of these? seems like it would do on the box decoding

    • Very interested in this too

  • I bought Beelink S82 from the recent deal for US $77, has got 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM, wireless ac. Pretty snappy and sleek device… Very happy with my purchase.

  • Very tempted - any experience of this or recommendation for or against?
I tried a Chromecast but found it less useful than my old Media Centre PC
Thinking this might bridge the gap better
Any way to run Plex Server with a usb hdd attached or would I have to do network share from another server?

  • Will it decode AC3 audio format? My biggest hassle with chromecast is its lack of license to directly decode AC3 audio.

    • I think you mean passthough or encoding, not decoding, as neither device has analogue out.

And thats a software question - Kodi does it all, including converting AAC to AC3 on the fly.
Netflix on Android only does stereo out.

      • On Android it seems more and more video players are dropping AC3 codec, due to some licencing issue. MX Player Pro, dropped it with its latest update.

        • Easily fixed:
          http://www.phonearena.com/news/How-to-restore-full-audio-cod…

But again, its a software issue, so applies to all players, and not relevant to hardware choice.

        • @manic:

So the spec list for this device re video, audio and picture support is irrelevant because its all software. Should this then be removed from device description?

        • @rifter:

Mr rifter, video decoding is hardware, so h265 support is relevant.
But yes, listing image and audio codecs for an android device is a bit pointless. It is the same as any other android device, and is limited by the software.
Which software are they talking about? Kodi? The pre-installed media player that nobody uses? MX player?

e.g. Anybody buying this for Netflix, and expecting 5.1 audio (or even full HD, let alone 4K) is going to be disappointed.

        • @manic:

Video decoding and audio decoding can be done in hardware OR it can be done in software. Software decoding is generally much slower than hardware decoding. Relevant to this purchase is what if any hardware decoding this device has.

        • @rifter:
Not sure what you are arguing about. Video decoding of the RK3368 is relevant - in particular the h265 ability. (These low-power ARM SoCs cannot decode HD video in software)
Audio is no different to any other Android device.

  • Will this run the Android-TV version of Netflix (as it has Android 5.1) ?
The normal Android version is not as good as others including the Windows 8 version.

Reply to self: apparently even the Nexus-TV does not do surround sound (ac3/dts) so no point.

    • This is what I need to know. I want an Android box for simplicity, value and ability to play h.265/HEVC videos, but they don't seem to do Netflix to it's best ability. Hoping there is a way?

      • I don't think it is possible to get the best Netflix on Android.
Looks like the answer is to get a chromecast - or windows HTPC ("modern" app), Apple TV, PS3, Roku, …

        • You're right. Netflix on Android has it's resolution capped on these devices - most likely due to a fear of piracy.

        • @Darkscythe: I was hoping you'd chip in on this mate. I've been browsing your very helpful website for a couple of weeks now.
Windows or Dual boot machines don't have the x265 hardware decoding I want. My poor internet speeds prevent streaming Netflix over 720p anyway so I think I'll sacrifice that or just keep my Chromecast.
Out of interest do you have any new machine reviews on the way?

        • @hen dawg: Thanks for the support! I've got a couple of new RK3368 units on their way (including this one) plus a new one with HDMI recording.

  • This model is very new, along with the chipset, so it might be a rough ride with support. Rockchip don't seem to have a good reputation for support.

    • It is on the supported list for Kodi:
      http://kodi.wiki/view/Android_hardware

The question is, do you gain anything by getting this over a S805-based box at half the price?
Kodi works similarly on both, but no 4K .

  • I've ordered the 1GB version with the expedited 5 day shippping, will answer questions on it when it arrives.

    • It arrived! Any questions, ask me.

      • So delivery was prompt? You've had 24 hrs of play. Is it rubbish or not?

        • Delivery took approx 3 weeks when using the $4 or $5 postage option, I didn't go for the cheapest option.

I've been using it over wifi, and I think any stuttering in Kodi is due to that or the EMF of it sitting on top of my speaker. 95% of the time there has been no stuttering in video playback, so maybe it was just slow to take the video from my (now aging) synology ds212j through my now aging ASUS RT 802.11n-spec router, it was a 5mbit stream. There was no issue what so ever when playing 1080p content from usb thumb drive from within kodi.

The remote is fantastic for kodi.

It works with my microsoft wireless mouse when I plug the receiver into the usb port of the unit.

Kodi reports 70% ram usage, with 30% free ram. I've uninstalled the pre-installed netflix, game, and skype, leaving just kodi and youtube app.

      • Does it support auto framerate switching? Eg, does it switch between 24Hz and 50Hz automatically depending on the avi or mkv file? Android 5 is supposed to support this feature.

        • Not sure what you mean here, it outputs 1080p at 60fps over the HDMI?

Can you provide instruction on how to test this?

It comes with Android 5.1 pre-installed.

  • Does your TV show the framerate when a new source begins? When I start a new avi file the TV shows the framerate in an onscreen dialogue box for a few seconds. So if it is switching from a 25p source file to a 23.976 fps file it will show 24Hz (approx) for the new file as the player switches to the new frame rate and the TV syncs with the player.

If the player is et to auto this should happen, but Android 4 used to stay on the set framerate, and thus convert the 23.976 fps to 25 fps, which causes judder.

    • I have an LG plasma TV, and I've done a little research for you.

In kodi in video settings- playback there is settings : adjust display refresh rate to match video, pause during refresh rate change, and sync playback to display. I set those as always, 2 seconds, and video clock (resample audio) respectively.

Then in Android settings, under display I set output resolution to "auto", previously it was on 1080p/60fps.

Now when I play a video, my TV reports 1080p at 60fps. I don't know why. Restarted TV. Restarted unit. Same result.

That said, I haven't noticed any tearing/v-sync issues when playing back video files, and I've looked. Maybe they're covered by the built in filter of the TV, or the post-processing of Kodi. The videos I tried all reported to have 23.976fps when checked in VLC on windows 8.
