You need to use a VPN to show you are from the USA, otherwise it tried to charge me the setup fee.

I chose a domain name ending in .asia and after that, I had to print, date and sign a form which I then scanned to a PDF and sent back to them. This is apparently required before they activate my account and I am still waiting for that to happen.

    No credit card is required so I don't think that is a problem, you can just let it lapse after a year.

    Even with a U.S. VPN, as soon as you register with an Australian address, it costs money. Registering a domain with false information is a bit more serious than using a fake US address to buy a Steam code from Amazon.
