What can you do with 1g of Saffron and how long does it last? I've never worked with Saffron so how much does it take to cook with? E.g. Making with rice how much do you need? Making dishes how much?

    • +5

      Thanks for the comment.

1 gram will last you a few meals. Depending on how strong you want to flavour to be. I'd say between 5 to 10 meals. You only need a pinch of saffron to get the aroma, colour and flavour. I'd suggest you go to our blog and have a look at some of the articles there.

I also put saffron in my tea. It relaxes you after a long day at work. Just a pinch in your tea pot and leave it for 5 minutes then it's good to go.

I'm going into the saffron business.

Are these Spainish or Morrocan or a blend?

    • Thanks for the comment.

Our saffron is 100% Persian Grade-1 All Red saffron. It is not a blend. Just pure Persian saffron.

Are these Spainish (sic) or Morrocan (sic) or a blend?

The claim is - "high quality Saffron from Iran."

  • Silly me, I have thought gold is expensive.

  • +1

What is the difference between the 1g, 2g and 4g packs ? The name you have listed on the website is little different and 1g pack has extra one year on the best before date ?

    • There's no difference in the quality of the saffron. They all have the same quality grade-1.

      • minus 1? ;)

Good post structure, good deal, good rep communication.
Would ask my partner if we needed any saffron and be told we already have some again.

    • Thanks for the comment

  • "However, because of the embargo, at this moment it is illegal to import or buy saffron from Iran. If you, as the end consumer, buy Iranian saffron, you are breaking the law."

This only seems to apply for Canada and the USA.

Did Australia sign up to this Embargo?

    • +3

No, there's no issue importing saffron from Iran to Australia. Thanks for your concern.

      • -2

No, there's no issue importing saffron from Iran to Australia. Thanks for your concern.

        That is good.

How do you pay? You can't use any Iranian Bank that has connections to their central bank, right?

Also, is there a grade above the "grade-1" that you keep mentioning?

        • +4

Let us worry about the hardships of dealing with Iran while you can enjoy your Persian saffron.

On the international system of grading saffron, there's no grade higher than grade-1. There's grade-1, grade-2 and grade-3. however, on the Persian standard scale, we have two more grades for grade-1. One of them is Grade-1 Sargol, which is the highest most red stigmas of saffron which we are supplying to Australia.

          @A3Australia: Never go full retard.

  • Never cooked with saffron so keen to give it a try. Thanks Rep.

What's a simple nice way to learn about the flavour? Perhaps in some rice?

    • +1

      Thanks for the comment.

Persian rice or paela is the best way to start. We've got heaps of recipes on our website. Have a look and let us know what you think.

will def pass on to friends!

    • Thank you

      • prob offtopic but would you recommend any stores that you use (own?) that sell other Persian groceries (rice/herbs/nuts) at comp prices?

        Thanks :)

        • Where about do you live?

        • Melbourne

        • +3

@2big4u: We are completely online store. However, there are some nice Persian shops around the Doncaster area that stock most of the Persian spices. We unfortunately don't present our saffron in any of the stores yet.
If you google Persian shop Doncaster, you will find what you are looking for. Good luck.

  • it says "BEST BEFORE JULY 2016"

How will this affect the quality of the saffron?

    • +1

Thanks for the comment. The best before date is just an indicative time. A spice like saffron wouldn't go bad as long as you keep it from moisture and keep it in vacum container. I have used a 3 year old saffron in my cooking with no issues. Moisture is the killer of saffron since it takes away the aroma and texture.

      • thanks!
        what about prev Q? :)

        • I don't understand

        • @Saffron-Store: Looks like you've answered 2big4u's previous question (slightly above this one).

  • +1

What's the difference between these prices and the regular prices that they sell at? Are these drastically discounted or so? Except free shipping, I don't see much difference at all. And despite whatever discounts, still insanely priced. :(

    • +1

      Thanks for the comment.

Our regular prices without the sale prices are already cheaper than any website / store you find selling premium Persian saffron. That's purely because we went and made a deal with farmers and cut down the middle men (3 to be exact in our case).

    • +1

if you go to any persian/afghan shop they are mostly priced at ~$8-$10. so at $4.9 (10g) is cheap.

  • ¿ - how does your imported saffron match the local Tassy product.?.

Thanks, and also thanks for interesting tread..

    • Thanks for the comment.

Depending on the location and weather condition, saffron quality changes. Tasmania produces great saffron but then they are a bit different from Persian saffron. Same as Spanish saffron. Iran is known to have the best weather condition to grow and harvest saffron.
Having said that, they all fit in the international grading standards with a little difference in colour index.
