8.2 We may terminate, restrict or suspend an ADSL service without notice if in any one month period:

    the sum of data uploaded and data downloaded exceeds 30 gigabytes;

and the amount of data uploaded is more than the amount of data downloaded.

    What the…? 30GB is nothing!

    • Its an unfair term. Unlikely to be legally valid.

    • I would check with aanet first.

When signing up the terms and conditions don't mention this.

It could be that they havn't updated their AUP yet.

If this is true, then we should make a complaint about their company being misleading.

    • Can you direct me to where on the website they say anything about exceeding 30 GB of data uploaded and downloaded?

I can't see where you got that from.

EDIT: ok, found it. I imagine the AUP is way out of date as it makes no sense at all. It's one thing to say that a plan is unlimited and then restrict the usage, but you can't offer a plan of 150GB and then say you're not allowed to go above 30GB.

    • Removed

    • The condition only applies if you upload more than you download. It’s to stop people running business web servers on residential connections. A Typical user wouldn't even do 10% of their download in upload.

  • i just realised that it's a special for people to sign up before end of year

the short deadline for the offer and the weird t&c above to me makes it no longer a bargain

edit: crap cant change my vote….

Till January 31st is not the end of the year.

      Good:
      Six month contract

      Bad:
      Don't like the $129 sign-up fee.
      Off-peakk is only 3am-9am.

      • well consider in total I get about 75gb for $50 at exetel (naked), offpeak is not a big deal but the connection fee is an absolute dealbreaker.

    • revoking vote for you :)

This is neither a bargain nor a good offer. I dont think it is legal for them to determine what ever i do with my internet connection. And $1 / Gb extra fees.. thats steep!!

    • it is legal for them to set a "fair use policy" it's all in the wording, but looking at the way they worded it seems like it isn't a fair use policy
and $1 per gb over isnt steep

    • I can't see where they are telling you what you can and can't do with your internet connection.

A surcharge of $1/GB is one of the lowest I've come across, so I'm really not sure what you are expecting.

    • You clearly have no idea about what ISP's charge for excess data do you?

too late for me. Just signed for TPG 60+60. Should keep me happy anyway.

    • +1

I think you made the better choice.
TPG will give you 75+75 in the next few weeks anyway ;)

    Ok so.

    aanet AUP is at http://www.aanet.com.au/aup.html

However, the 30 gigabytes comment does not refer to ADSL Unlimited Plans.

    Have a read of http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1344552

So yes, these ADSL plans are true unlimited.

The plans look pretty sweet except for the line rental. If they offered Naked ADSL2+ I'd be on board for sure.

    I guess a few questions …

    • What happens after the 6 months?
    • Can you continue on the same plan?

The $129 setup fee also applies for those already with ISP's that support SST/churn. Just means that they are hiding the real cost per month which should add $21 each month - after factoring in their ridiculously expensive sign up fee.

    • Does shaping apply after you exceed download limit?
    • If so, what is the shaped speed?

I'm thinking that TPG is still a better option - much smaller setup fee (or no setup fee) and uploads aren't counted.

      Yes

If you do a churn the fees are usually what.. $49. So it's more like $80 over 6 months really = $13.33 or $6.66 over 12 months. Cheaper than a burger and Chips at Maccas ;-) and you still get truly unlimited 1500k that's pretty good IMO

Does shaping apply after you exceed download limit?

      No

As an ex-customer & ex-employee I'ld recommend people stay away aaNet.

    • +5

I would agree, but care to give your own reasons? I'm curious :)

    • +1

I've got no idea why people are +'ing you — mind explaining what your gripe is with them?? I'm sure it'd help other potential customers make a well informed decision.

    • Another vote for hearing the bad stories :)

    • I would advise to check whirlpool.net.au and look there before signing up I am not saying anything just check for yourself. I am also a soon to be ex-customer & ex-employee.

      Aacheney

to be honest, I was with aaNet, nothing wrong with them, I was a very happy customer with them, connection was fine & speed was good. I'm just now with TPG! :-P

the excess usuage charge is not good for me so I left if anyone wonders…
