I don't understand the appeal of the 13" Macbook, it runs gutless ultrabook low voltage parts and has no dedicated GPU. Other than a few extra ports (that are standard on alternative laptops) or screen what's so 'pro' about it?

At this price i'm really expecting a true quadcore CPU or a dedicated GPU. Honestly buy the Mac Air or don't stuff around and get the 15" Pro…. or you know don't buy a Mac at all.

    • I use Mac for reading PDF or website. Mac even doesn't have a good office software. The office 2016 is still too bad comparing with PC version.
If you want to play games or do some real stuffs with your computer, forget the Mac

If you have to ask what is the appeal for the Macbook, then it's probably not for you.

I agree with Homemadelcing. I am now using my second Macbook, a 13" Pro Retina from late 2013. It's doing everything I want when I am portable mood i.e. lying on my bed. I have a dedicated desktop PC if I want to game.

        • Wow, same here. Macbook Pro 13" Pro Retina from late 2013. I've also got a Macbook Pro 15" which work has given me for work purposes. Macbooks aren't made to game, hence why I have a desktop PC

13" MBP has a good screen, strong processor (27W vs 15W of just about every Ultrabook) and still pretty portable. You won't find a similarly specced Windows laptop for much cheaper. That is

      • Retina Equivalent Display
      • 256GB SSD
      • 8GB RAM
      • Sub 2KG weight

Not many people need dedicated GPU so having one just eats into battery life, and 15" is just way more annoying to carry around.

      • Dell xps and asus 305 both come to mind.

Like I said, XPS 13 with the higher quality display is not much cheaper than the MBP, it is lighter but also packs a 15W CPU vs 27W CPU. Asus 30X can be good value but has nearly no hardware options, also depreciate like crazy which is why a last-gen 30X is probably the best value laptop with good quality you can get.

        • @NoRotation:
Plus Windows works much better on the MBP than OSX works on the XPS.

I don't understand the appeal of the 13" Macbook

You can use it on a plane without the person in front crushing the screen when they put their seat back.
      (I speak from experience here).
13inch works (and I also get the ports)

      Its a good choice

    • 8 hour battery? gorgeous screen?

unless you are playing games, the CPU and GPU are enough to do most anything.

      • If it's the current model, make that 10 hours.

has no dedicated GPU. … what's so 'pro' about it?

For the most part, professionals use integrated graphics these days (at least on laptops, it has come a long way), and dedicated GPUs are for kids playing games in the bedroom.

How the world has changed :)

This is a proper laptop, not one of those heavy, energy-hungry desktop replacements. It weighs 1.6 kg, about the limit of what is comfortable on a lap, and has good battery life.
The display is awesome. But so is the price-tag.

  • Is this an older model
Iris 4000 graphics and 7 hour battery life??

    • I think DJ has some wrong/old info on their spec screen.

I am just looking forward to smoother skin and less wrinkly hands, what other laptop offers this?

  • Get officeworks to price match and receive 5% off.

    • All stock at Officeworks was suddenly unavailable when DS and DJ had this deal.
But I am sure that was just a coincidence- right?

      • I dont think they had stock in stores but they did in their warehouse, you need to phone officeworks to pricematch and order and they will deliver. However I think DJ 10% off deal ended on Sunday.

  • Price seems to have been changed back. Deal over already?

    • Looks like it. was still valid Sunday night when i checked.
I assume Dick Smith have also put their price up.

Thanks OP. Picked one up today at DJ Bourke St, VIC. Got $1900 worth of gift cards and just asked for 10% off!

    • Nice work. Can't believe it was that easy for you.
      Thanks for the feedback.
