not exactly the two criteria that you would usually use in picking cloud backup storage (and for life no less)

    Whats a "lifetime" I want to live longer than 5 years…. :p

After visiting the companies website http://skyhubcloud.com it seems to scream 'don't touch us with a 10 foot pole' unless you want to get burnt.

The blog has no actual real entries, and the people they have on the front page seem unrealistic

The FAQ states they use AWS for data storage, so I suspect they are reselling/repackaging AWS storage through their own interface and software, and work on the assumption some users will use more, some less and the service still manage to somehow make a profit/stay in business.

While I enjoy an amazing bargain as the next ozbargainer I have to say $90 for unlimited lifetime storage just seems too good to be true and lifetime in this instance may perhaps mean 6-7 years or until the company goes under.

    Domain name lookup shows:

    Domain Name: SKYHUBCLOUD.COM
    Registrar: GOOGLE INC.
    Sponsoring Registrar IANA ID: 895
    Whois Server: whois.rrpproxy.net
    Referral URL: http://domains.google.com
    Name Server: NS8211.HOSTGATOR.COM
    Name Server: NS8212.HOSTGATOR.COM
    Status: clientTransferProhibited http://www.icann.org/epp#clientTransferProhibited
    Updated Date: 07-feb-2015
    Creation Date: 07-feb-2015
    Expiration Date: 07-feb-2016

Do you trust a business that has had that domain only since Feb of this year?

Always a slight possibility I could be wrong and this is the best bargain in the world for cloud backup storage.

Lot's of discussion here already. Looks like shady deal

    http://bbs.boingboing.net/t/skyhub-cloud-unlimited-backup-li…

    • Sounds pretty bad in that discussion. Lucky I didn't bite - but for those willing to try it seems still on.

  • Smells very fishy.

  • Come on OP, would you really pay ~$AUD124 and trust your data to this mob ?

If not, why bother posting ?

    • I left it for people to make their own judgement. There may be some willing to chance it.

  • Amazon cloud drive seems ok.
Unlimited photo storage, plus 5 GB for videos and files for just $11.99USD per year.
    Unlimited Everything $59.99USD per year.

    • Or get Amazon Prime, which includes this, plus Prime Instant Video and other benefits for ~$100/year

      • what does Prime give you for being in Australia, I know theres lots of benefits for US but what about Oz customers?

Despite the delivery discounts that don't apply to shipping outside the US, you get Prime Instant Video (smaller catalog than Netflix, but covers lots of stuff Netflix doesn't have, incl. a few good Prime exclusives), discounts on Amazon Video purchases and rentals (things not covered by Prime), exclusive discounts and sales on other items as well. Access to Kindle Unlimited (mainly full of junk but some good stuff there).

This is all with a US Prime account. Never used amazon.com.au myself.

I gave Prime a trial out of interest after getting a Fire TV Stick as a way to run Plex on my kitchen TV (lounge TV has a HTPC and consoles). I was looking for a photo backup option alternative to Google Photos (didn't want all of my eggs in one basket, and stopped using CrashPlan a while ago when they jacked their prices right up), and was impressed enough with Prime Video to get drop the money for the two features alone.

          Update:
          Benefits are listed here: http://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Prime-One-Year-Membership

I spent 2 days getting our company data off a cloud provider because they sent the company I work for a notice that they were closing down, at work I try to get people to understand that you keep data on your own drive and backup to cloud and sync. the SLAs for lost data are just that you don't pay for the month. unless you are with the players big enough not to go go under or change owners it's a risk. even Adobe sent me a letter one saying that their existing cloud product was closing down and I had the option to use their more expensive new product.
