Might be worth waiting until tomorrow to see if this bundle goes on ebay:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/208430

Nope I'm an idiot. Reading through comments the bundle is in store only.

  • Great price but not sure if I should get it. I got no time to play on ps3 yet alone getting a new console doesn't help

    • +16

"Just do it, don't let your dreams be dreams"

    • +6

Are we supposed to care if you've got time to play a console?

      • +2

No you don't need to care. I'm only saying I have a huge backlog on PS3 even with this price probably not worth getting PS4, as not many titles are worth to do so?

  • cheapest?

  • just wondering if they'll have the same kinds of deals when the newer updated ps4 is out here eventually (before end of the year?)

    • I imagine so. They'll just be the new stock once the old stocks disappear. It is probably going to make it a lucky dip ordering online from a big retailer where you can't confirm it though, while there still is the older stock.

    • Likely they'll have this at Christmas again, except for $399 it will have at least one game with it. If they can find any.

    • The updated one seems a bit meh for me.. ok so they are apparently going to improve the graphics slightly, but removing the drive and replacing with Online Digital content only is a bit annoying, means you are restricted to buying games from the PS Store and their prices SUCK at the best of times.

      See Below:
a new SSD drive to replace the standard HDD, in order to allow developers to optimize more easily their latest titles in full 1080p resolution, and other next-gen features. It looks pretty much guaranteed that sony will remove the Blu Ray Drive as according to Sony most players prefer to store their video game content digitally

      • Wow, so an actual slim model, not the minor HW revision we were discussing that is out/coming

EDIT: Ah I see that is just a rumor.

  • What games worth for the PS4?

    • +6

If don't know, then you don't need one.

      • Good thinking. I will wait for FFXV to come out or some other titles then, by then for sure there will be 2nd gen

  • +1

How much of a step up is the graphics compared to previous gen

    • +1

Haha you're kidding right? Go do a search on Youtube for a comparison if you haven't ever seen the ps4 in use already.

      • +1

Not sure why the vote downs. Seems like a valid point. The merit of the graphics improvement is very subjective and needs to be seen.

      • no, definitely not being sarcastic. comparison on youtube is not exactly helpful as it depends on how they recorded it, plus my lenovo laptop screen is not exactly vibrant. Based on the limited read up i did last year, the verdict was that the step up in graphics was not that great. Maybe things have gotten better since then..

    • -3

Not worth the price tag that's for sure for the number of titles

      • +5

You clearly clicked on this deal not wanting a PS4.

        • I clicked as I was interested, thought about it. I would have bought it then leave it there collecting dust. So better not buy, wait for better titles to come out and hopefully better price later.

Mortgage and family is more important than a mere console

    • -4

Yeah valid question indeed. I was very disappointed with the step up in graphics between current and previous gen. 1080p as a max resolution in 2013+ doesn't really cut it. Definitely not of the magnitude of the shift seen between PS1 > PS2 > PS3

      • 1080p isn't going to knock your socks off, but we're talking about a $400 console that's primarily used on TVs, not a $1500 gaming PC.

    • always step below PC

      • Its is obvious, because you buying directly from manufacturer/distributor.

        • +2

Cost wise you can't compare. PC gaming is one frigging expensive hobby, and personally too much XXXXing about (less so now with drivers etc). Consoles though you are talking a smallish cost every 4 years or so.

        • +1

@Mobe1969: Any Hobby dealing with technology "is one frigging expensive hobby", But your right you can't compare Console with PC gaming.

    • Your question is very valid not sure why people negged you. I have brought you back to non negative

  • +6

FYI - just confirmed with Target ebay, this is the new CUH-1200 model. Happy shopping.

    • Great, was hoping for this!!

I ordered white so hopefully mines CUH1200 also..

    • cheers mate, added to description

    • Great news! Will definitely buy one now. Thanks

  • +2
    • +1

would this also be the newer model

      • Also interested in knowing this

        • +1

I believe the 1TB model is

        • +1

          @going nowhere:

I was told the model is as follows:
          AU3 CUH – 1202B B02

Anyone know what this means? Is it the new model?

        • @Meconium:
          Is that info from Target?

That should be the new model (1200), that's good news. I bought one last night before the price rise so hoping I get lucky.

        • @Meconium: The new model only comes in 1TB as far as I know

  • +1

I'm a very infrequent gamer contemplating picking up a console for MGS5.

I'm leaning towards an XB1 because of the non-gaming features… thoughts?

    • what non-gaming features youre talking about?

    • If gaming is going to be second, maybe look at an Android TV device, or just Windows on a Intel NUC. You'll be able to install what you want on it. XB1 and PS4 are gaming machines first. An exception may be if you are a Netflix/Hulu/etc user, since XB1 with a remote is very good with that. Forget their TV adapter at the moment, pretty useless.

    • +1

i own both ps4 and xb1 and the ps4 wins hands down. pause for fanboy beatdown
playstation has plenty of apps, movies and free games with psplus. xb1 is contantly requiring extras. eg. controller jack for headphone support, doesnt come with rechargable batteries(mine didnt with titanfall pack), new guitar hero game will be more expensive on xb1 due to it requiring extra dongle add on. not to mention its twice the size and has a huge power brick lead still. and im not a ps fanboy and i still have plenty more reasons why the ps4 is better. like games running at 30fps while the same title runs at 60fps on the ps4. rant over. lol. hope it helps

      • Yeah, it is a pretty close call. Hard core gamer maybe PS4. Then again, Microsoft is updating the XB1 to Windows 10 shortly, so maybe it will narrow the gap more (although realistically it can be hard to tell the difference). XB1 has DLNA. If you have an Xbox 360 then they are shortly going to release backwards compatibility. Game streaming from XB1 to Windows 10 is great, so if you picked up one of those cheap HP Windows tablets here on OzBargain then you are set.

I think though, since it is a pretty close call, that no matter which one you get you would keep thinking you should have got the other. So the answer is just to have both.

        • So you're saying that we can play XB1 to devices with windows 10?? O.o

        • @piggiepanda:

          Stream, yes.

        • @piggiepanda: Yes, you can connect to an XB1 with a Windows 10 device and stream it. ie. plug your gamepad into your PC or Windows tablet on your network and you can use the XB1 and stream a game. It works really well. PS4 has this as well, but it only streams to Sony devices. The lag appears very minimal for me, so makes the XB1 a lot more useful.

        • @Freegs: Wow… I never knew that for the XB1 AND PS4..

How does the PS4 one work? I only know that you can use the ps vita as an extra remote…

  • @voldemort I'm referring to Kinect integration with TV/Netflix/Skype etc. Haven't followed the console space closely for a while, so I could be off-base here.
@Freegs I want to play the occasional AAA game (e.g MGS5, Arkham Knight) but I'll probably end up using more as a video/Netflix device day-to-day.

    • PS4 doesn't do TV (ala PlayTV on PS3 nor PVR) and it doesn't do skype. It does have the Netflix app. The way Sony have the PS4 atm it's not really for anything much more than games. Unfortunately they are selling far more than XB1, so they don't seem in any rush to accommodate the casual market with cool (non gaming) stuff for now. They have stated that their PS4 VR-headset will be out first quarter 2016.

  • Out of stock. I think previous deal bundle might be better if you want some games with it.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/202474

  • Got this last night - awesome deal. Thanks!

  • if you can get it, bigw has ps4 for $498, with 3 games + F&F7 in their catalogue. god of war wasn't in stock so got a substitute of equal value game. arkham night (who doesn't want that?)

got 2 out of 3 games i actually wanted, plus a bluray. new model ps4 as well.

  • New stock but almost out

  • Cheers mate grabbed one.

Wont play it much till tekken 7 and sf5 but found out my ps3 stick can work and it's the new model too so eh.

  • +1

I just checked PS4 is not compatible with PS3 games, it is not as good as a media player compare to PS3, also cannot use PS3 Controllers

I read the top 20 games on PS4, none of them surprising interest me, maybe just the new Metal Gear Solid. That's pretty much it.

I'm sure the best time to buy is when there are more games, and the console itself will be cheaper than. Hopefully next year perhaps?

I considered really hard to get this white new version, its a great price but knowing it will be in the lounge collecting dust, better not.

    • +1

It's been out for what 2 years now almost 3? and the price is still consistent, yes it drops but not significantly.

Last deal from target $419 was the cheapest because it included 3 games (GOW 3, LBP3, the crew). Yes not awesome games but decent.

Yes, its not backwards compatible and sony doesnt plan on making it one like how XB1. Perhaps in the future if XB1 sales are higher than the PS4, sony might consider making the ps4 backwards compatible, who knows.

If you're not in a rush or have other backlog games to finish you can always wait. I jumped on the last deal cause it was more of an impulse than planned one despite my other consoles crying at home begging for attention… LOL

      • hehe I agree. I always have this impulsive buying behaviour when I see a good deal on gaming consoles. But I regret later having it collecting dust. The excitement of owning own winds down very quickly…

        • The excitement of them, and the PS2 I guess (to my perspective) was that they were a gaming console with DVD then Blu ray capability when both those techs were relatively expensive. They were actually a good value player in the time. I still use my PS3s as my prime blu ray player (one region A, one region B). I have a good oppo, but I found I prefer the PS3 as a player and only use the oppo when I want to shift subtitles.

The PS4 came out, and it had utter rubbish firmware, and other than the gaming power, it was about 1/3rd as useful as the PS3. Hell it woulnd't even play 3D blu rays when it arrived. And even a couple of years later the PS3 has way better media features.

If I got a PS4 it would just be for games. And if there aren't any games I'm playing it would be collecting dust.

    • I agree. That is the only reason I haven't bitten yet. I'm a long term playstation owner going back to the original, but given the functionality of the PS4 is less than the PS3, and there really aren't any games I really want, it is a hard sell so far. Honestly the remastered GTAV was my primary interest in it so far. I've got a region free oppo, but I still find I use my ps3s more for blu rays than the oppo.

Too often now I see games that look good, and then I hear they are just online multiplayer only. I couldn't give a damn about that. I want to play a story. There are some ones I'd like to play eventually, like Alien Isolation, The Evil Within, and Dying Light.

Fallout 4 might make me finally break…

      • What made me finally bought the ps4 was news about Shenmue 3 being exclusive to the ps4. Huge fan of shenmue so this finally made me jump on the deal. Before that i did want to play FF-type 0 and knack but it really wasnt a selling point till shenmue 3 was announced.. LOL

      • +1

new Metal gear would be good

that is the only game beside GTA5 that has good story.

Shenmue 3 also might be good. But it is more like quicktime events than actual game.

        • I was initially excited by MGS. But I'm too old and crotchety now. Once I saw gameplay videos where they had him airlifting squealing downed enemies with balloons in full view of other enemies, without the other enemies noticing, I got so irritated. I just can't get past that…

        • @Mobe1969:

Got a link to that video?

I think MGS still one of the best cinematic games out there.

        • @tyler.durden:
Not offhand I don't. Any of those long gameplay demos had it I think. Apparently the whole balloon ascendancy part of the game is integral to it.

        • +1

          @Mobe1969:

          Found a link

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXf1xKiKKu0

          interesting…

balloons does make it weird, cos the enemies would have been alerted if these balloons with people were floating up in the sky all the time.

          Also an interesting thought,
why snake does not use the balloons on himself

        • @tyler.durden:
          Yeah…

I wish Sony would resurrect Syphon Filter. I always felt they were better, story, gameplay, and having humour that was appropriate, not just cartoon antics in a serious game. The PSP games were just great. Just my opinion though.

        • +1

That's right. Only the new MGS interests me in getting one, but just for one game probably not worth it. There seems to be less and less good single player games these days.

Couple of good ones on PS3 I really liked…

          Bioshock infinite
          Sleeping dogs
          Dragon Age: Origins
          GTA5

I can't find the same or better on PS4 yet

        • @neonlight:

You hit a good point there. The lack of good single player games. I'm getting disappointed seeing games announced that look fantastic next gen, then I see they are single player. I only play single player. I like playing a great story, not just running around playing "bang bang you're dead!"

        • @Mobe1969:

Not really fan of siphon filter

          The story wasn't that interesting…

Most memorable story was MGS on playstation one.

        • @neonlight:

most of those all can be played on pc and in better graphics

also you can mod gta5 etc.. to make it look even more realistic

        • +1

          @tyler.durden:

You have a point there, although I'm not the type who would invest time and money on PC Hardware. I used to, maybe early to mid 2000s, but nowadays I just want something simple, works out of box, doesn't have to be the highest graphical quality. This is why console fits me.

PC Gaming is a money pit…Consoles I think its more cost effective unless you want to stay on the edge all the time, chasing new releases (which a lot of us I do buying a game and still have it shrink wrapped, unopened. sigh…)

It's a pity to see that PS4 with great hardware, even after 12 months of release not seeing much momentum on titles. Seeing these deals makes me rethink previous gen titles are so much more engaging and thrilled. Lack of single player games makes it worse.

Lets not start on the "HD Editions" or remakes of the same stuff which were already on PS3 before…

        • @neonlight:

yeah, most of the current big titles are just HD versions of other titles like GTA5, the last of us…

Newer gen worthwhile titles won't be out till later on next year

ie Metal gear, Drake game, etc..

Also alot of these games will never be as cutting edge as a proper PC games and problem is PC games have to be dumb down (graphic wise) for consoles…

If a true PC made game came out, it would blow everything out of the water in terms of graphics, but this will never happen nowadays..

PC gaming is only a money pit if u must have the latest GPU, cpu etc….

If u are content with your pc, it can last up to 7 to 10 years or longer, which is longer life than a console
And I do more stuff on pc and use it from morning to night than a dedicated console.

So it is better investment than a console, which might get some hours a day or a week.

          ===

Also I find a lot of console games are no longer fun any more…

Many of the games release seems to just not feel that fun any more, and just the game mechanics are pretty worn out and dull nowadays..
Just look at all the FPS, etc..

Only fun game recently was GTA5.

          In the older days
          consoles like Sega, SNES, etc..
          and older consoles,
the games seem more fun even though the graphics are not as advance as it is now…

e.g Sonic the hedgehog, mario games..

        • @tyler.durden:
Good point on the use other than entertainment for a pc.

I'm in IT dev, so I use pcs all the time. At home though I barely use my computer other than for browsing, photo and bill management, I use my smartphone more.

Time it gets down to couch vs office chair. And history. Couch is for entertainment, including gaming. Chair is for desk and wok. and history. You have to remember it in really only the last few years you could easily and typithook a pc to a big screen TV. Even now I still get crap on hooking up my laptop to a pc for blu-ray with hdcp rubbish.

        • @Mobe1969:

Not sure what your last paragraph is about…
The sentences seems to be all over the place..

Anyways I find that I like to watch TV shows and movies more nowadays than play console or pc games..

If I game, it is more likely some casual game on a tablet or mobile
          e.g. Candy crush

I have no burning desire to get a ps4 as badly as I wanted to get a ps3..

Maybe I am getting older or just bored with console gaming…
If I do game, I find I just playing simple but addictive games like candy crush etc
or play class MAME arcade games..which were really fun.

The last great fun console was the wii.
Since it change how you play the game and the immersion factor.

I am waiting for VR + wii remote (style gaming) etc.. to become more cheaper and mainstream..
probably ps5 will have it bundled..etc..
That's when gaming might get more interesting again…
Since it will get more immersive..
Though I think I will probably get motion sickness from it, since even gaming on FPS you feel this stomach sick feeling after gaming for a while.

Right now ps4 just feels like a better looking ps3.

        • @tyler.durden:
I mean the thought and cost of using my pc for gaming and entertainment is against what I look to for entertainment and gaming. Comfort. Relaxation. Big screen TV. Couch. Not desk. Chair. Monitor.

On top of that, historically it has been pretty rubbish hooking a computer to a TV.

Games I like? Good immersive stories. Not arcade or mobile crud. I think gtav is to my opinion the epitomy of what I want and could hope for in a game. Silent Hill 2 an 3 and Zero too. Online gaming isn't for me. Deskbound gaming isn't for me. Spending time and lots of money chasing pc upgrades for eternity isn't for me. Give me a console any day.

And sorry if my post are a little unintelligible. Friday night, and I've had some beers… :p

  • Hey stock came back, please update the post!!! got 1 for myself!!!

  • you think this will be cheaper comes christmas with bundle? dilemma whether to buy second hand with games or this
