      No. Usually the ones that require no external power are smaller in size. As with most computer parts, the smaller something is, the more expensive it is!

      This one is "3.5 inches", the "2.5 inch" drives being smaller require less power to make them spin. Computers can send a small amount of power over a USB cable which is usually enough to spin a 2.5" drive fast enough.

      • A while ago a 2TB portable was $89, in the $90s is common.
