  • surely there were people who bought some last time around, thoughts?

    • +3

Bought a 6 pack a few months ago. One couldn't plug into the phone. The other 2 I have used have no issues.

      • Same, one cannot go in and forced in, then connector broken.

    • +1

I have the box of cabes still unopened but i have the car changer and standard charger. The cables and quality of the chargers are great

    • +2

I bought a pack a while back and they've been perfect. Look and feel almost identical to the Anker ones (they claim same factory?) and great performance. I'm waiting for one to die so I can cut it open and measure the wire gauge, but at the rate these are going it could be a couple years (my first Anker cable is still perfectly fine after a whole year of abuse; compare ~1 month for the Tikbro stuff).

    • +3

i thought they were great, felt good quality compared to other cables.

    • I was blown-away with the price, quality, quantity of the previous 6 pack. Arrived in reasonable time too!

However… most (all?) only want to charge the phones, not transfer data.

  • +4

My pack of these from their last deal (identical to this one) arrived recently. The cables charge devices as advertised and they feel pretty good quality. No complaints.

    • Do you get:

480-Mbps data transfer with error-free data transmission

      • +1

Transferring a 1011MB MKV file from my MBP to my Nexus 5 via Android File Transfer took 50s (which I think equates to 161Mbit/sec?). It's impossible to tell if this is a speed limitation on the cables part, my phone's internal drive or the app I used. Personally the speed seems on par with any other USB cable to me. Test was conducted just now.

      • +3

This is the theoretical max for USB2.0 but AFAIK is very hard to test for in a cable, as all parts in the chain would also need to be capable and then you would also be assuming no losses… In reality they are saying this won't be the bottleneck in the system.

  • +2

i bought a set and using them with the 5 port tronsmart charger I'm getting 3000mah+ where the max I was able to get before all the tronsmart gear was approximately 1800mah.

the phone i'm using is a LG G2. Very happy with the tronsmart gear

    • +1

      huh?

      • +2

He probably means mA not "mah" which technically isn't anything as the case is wrong. mAh is a unit of energy not rate of energy transfer.

Some devices will draw more and more current but watch the voltage and back off if it drops too low. So a good cable really carries a higher current with less voltage drop ie it has a lower resistance.

        • anyone know of a straight forward app on android that measures quality of micro usb cable?

        • +2

          @zeckem:
Measure what quality? There are any number of apps will read current measured by the battery and charging hardware although this is usually fairly rough.

I'm not aware of any apps to test data integrity. Anything like that of course needs something at each end of the cable.

        • +2

          @zeckem:

I believe you are looking for Ampere.

It will show the charge rate of your phone - your max is depending on what your phone and charger supports.

i.e. most of the Nexus line needs 5V 2A to charge at maximum rate - however some cables may only be able to support 800mA or so.

I have a Zenfone 2 which has QC2.0 (8V 2A) and none of the cables in my house, save for the one supplied by ASUS, supported it. These Tronsmart cables do.

      • +2

Shonky is right, I meant mA, I had batteries on my mind and put down mAh in err

  • +2

Works well on my Samsung Devices.
Good looking cables and do the job well.

  • Any USB Audio cables? The difference is night and day compared to cheap usb cables.

    • How? Snake oil again.

      • -3

I suspect that Diji1 was probably saying that the way these Tronsmart cables are being advertised (fast charging, high speed, error free etc) is pretty close to the way some audio cables are advertised: dubiously.

Just like most people I have USB cables from everywhere. Over-priced department store cables, phone/tablet accessory cables and cheap n' nasty imported cables. Yet they all work for "high-speed" data transfers, they all fast-charge my fast chargeable devices and I think if they were prone to causing data transfer errors I would know about it.

I'm not saying that all cables are created equal, but I think that the overwhelming majority of them will work just fine for just about everyone.

        • +8

the overwhelming majority of them will work just fine for just about everyone

Unfortunately not. The vast majority of cheap cables (e.g. the $1 ones off Kogan, most of the ones on eBay, etc.) have a rather high resistance (anywhere from 250mA to 900mA; good is 2000mA+), often don't work at all (esp. eBay - purchased five once and got a single working one), and tend to not last long (Tikbro.). Occasionally you're lucky enough to find one that does work.

I've never purchased any of the overpriced department store cables, so they might perform better - but you get a single cable for the price of two packs of these.

        • Just to be clear: by high resistance I mean you can't get as high a current through them before the voltage drops too low (hence the measurements in mA, not Ohms). I'm judging this by primarily 2m cables (since that's what I use), but the cheap 1m cables don't perform much better - I still don't see higher than the mid 800s.

  • +12

Do 5 others want to go sixths with me?

  • Cables included with their car chargers are decent quality so presume these are the same or similar. Bought.

  • They need to sell these post-haste before the Nexus 5X announcement on the 29th of September. :)

    • These will still work with the cheap (~$3) Qi chargers & the Nexus 5X

  • No deal on the black one?

    • Not this time.

      • Was about to checkout, but saw it was white. Wanted black to match everything else i owned. I guess I'll wait until next deal.

        Thanks for the reply.

    • I looked through and found this. Looks to be what we are both after :) http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Tronsmart-USB-2-0-Male-to-Mic…

      • Yes, that's it, but the coupon doesn't apply. I'm sure if the colour is important, the extra $2 won't be a huge problem.

        • Ahh… in process of making account at moment. Seems to be broken though :(

I would just pay the extra to get the black. Finding good cables can always be a problem and paying $13 for 6 cables, most of which i can assign a good use is still a good deal imo

9.70 AU? its really over 10.00 AU fix title please

    • At raw exchange rates it's about 9.70 AUD

      https://www.google.com.au/search?q=7+USD+in+aud&oq=7+USD+in+…

    • +1

I'm going by exchange rate, not Paypal's rate and interest.

    • +1

It cost me $9.80 on my Bankwest Zero Platinum.

      • -1

well cost me 10.06 on paypal dont know why im downvoted when its true lol

        • -2

it also said 9.80 on the website not 9.70 then when i went to pay it said 10.05 in paypal so yeah

        • +4

          I didn't down vote.
But I imagine it's because you're blaming them for you paying PayPal a premium to exchange for you.

        • +3

No one's doubting that you got gouged by PayPal but you chose the most expensive payment method and then wanted the title changed to reflect that lol

I ordered a cheap (and cheap looking) 1M cable from eBay today for $1 delivered from Melbourne (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/181860871698). It's more so for charging than data.

I wish I could get cheap earphones that would last a tenth of the life of cheap power cables.

  • Sorry, the coupon code is not valid for orders less than USD 8.

i just signed up. itdoesnt work for me. can u assist

    • Coupon is definitely working. Remove it from you're cart and try again.

      • Thanks for the deal - I already got the previous 6 pack in black and just ordered this new set in white.

Are there any issues if I was to order another white pack? I originally tried to order 2 packs together, but the code only applied a single discount of $2. I've just added another one into the cart and the coupon applied correctly - I just don't want to risk having the other order cancelled because I've got greedy! :-)

        • You're welcome to make as many orders as you like as there are a lot in stock.

        • @Clear:

          Awesome - thanks! :-)

  • +1

    Ordered! Thanks.

  • Any deals on the Tronsmart Quick Charge 2.0 54W 4 Ports car charger please.

  • does anyone have a definitive answer as to what the BEST microusb cable available is?

    • The best at what? Saving my wallet, cool reputation, or time charging?

      • -3

best overall - top speeds, reliable data connection, and best construction. and value for money of course, so it can't be as much as some of the propriety cables

IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK????

    • +1

      You, my friend, deserve Monster.

I'm sorry, but wire is wire. Unless it can't handle the current and melts, or, has some kind of discreet 'boost' electronic circuitry within them, then how can these increase the charge rate, or data speed?

    • This isn't a snake oil business with HDMI cables and gold connections. It's a very well known fact that low quality cables break easily and charge slower. There are a few comments above that explain why in further detail. As does a quick Google search.

    • +1

      Lol physics noob.

Think of a water pipe. The thicker it is the more water flows.

    • +1

I'm sorry you are wrong. Thickness makes all the difference as can the purity of the metal and the actual type of metal.

To clarify, the wire itself can't increase the current but can allow more to flow with a lower voltage drop and less heating.

    • My year 7 kid can answer that..

    • +1

      R=ρL/A

      R is the resistance
Length (L): The longer the conductor, the greater its resistance
Cross sectional area (A): The thicker the conductor, the less its resistance
ρ is the resistivity, and depends on the material used

And Voltage = Current x Resistance

    • Hm… Thanks for Clear attempting to answer the honest question - and the rest for being so intent on personal attacks, that they didn't bother to read the question in the first place. In fact, one said the very same thing I did - then attempted to make it seem like I said the opposite!?

I was interested how these cables were faster/could 'make' more current flow, if indeed they were/could. Because yes, a wire twice as thick can carry twice as much current. However, that means the current has to be:

      1. Available in the first place - and…
      2. The device being charged was always trying to DRAW that larger amount of current (no matter if it were gold or galvanised clothes line wire that was plugged in).

If a cheaper/lower quality cable isn't capable of allowing all the available current through - and the device is trying to draw it… Then the lesser cable would heat up (burn out in extreme cases), etc. So there has to be more to these 'working better' than just thicker wire.

Even gold connectors doesn't explain it really. Because over such a short cable run, gold means absolutely zip unless you're talking about things like noise rejection, high freq. CPUs - not a charging cable.

Making wire thicker, does not PRODUCE more current from thin air - noob!

Like someone else here, I was interested in a bit more meat than "you're a noob moron". Grow up!

      • +1

Then the lesser cable would heat up (burn out in extreme cases), etc.

Nah, the voltage will just drop. It takes a lot of power to burn a wire like that - a phone charger will not do it.

Cheap cables use thin wires. It has been discussed here in the past, e.g. here.

Making wire thicker, does not PRODUCE more current from thin air - noob!

Nobody said anything about a cable producing more current. The OP said "fast charging speed". Also have a look at your original post. You said:

then how can these increase the charge rate, or data speed?

Who said anything about increasing the charge rate? The OP says the cable can "…support … fast charging speed".

Cheap cables that use thin wires cannot support fast charging as explained above. This cable uses thicker internal wires, so it does.

So in short, wire is not wire.

        • Nah, the voltage will just drop.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking… that maybe cheaper cables have increased resistance/reactance.

Nobody said anything about a cable producing more current.

A few messages above did (not the OP). And claimed thicker wire = more current flow. (So ready trying to stir up trouble, didn't bother to check his own logic was flawed.) The statement is true, but it doesn't apply here. It's only true if the current wasn't available the entire time (which it was), and/or the device wasn't ready to draw it the entire time (which it was) but couldn't through a lesser cable for some reason.

In other words - I was supposedly a 'noob' because I didn't realise thicker wire meant more current flows. Well, I know who is more qualified for that title, because if I double the mains cable thickness coming down my street, I don't suddenly get twice the power coming in. The water heater/fridge/computer will still use the same amount of power they did previously.

So these cables work better by doing more than 'thickening the water pipe'.

        • +1

          @realfamilyman:

A few messages above did (not the OP).

Ahh well, you should have replied to that post then. You created a new thread which means it's referring to the OP's post.

      • More incorrect statements and what you said "wire is wire" which it isn't.

Also, gold connectors has nothing to do with noise rejection, high freq CPUs etc. Gold actually has worse conductivity than copper and silver.

        • Wire IS wire, in that the guy above didn't talk about changing the wire - just doubling it's thickness. That doesn't change the available current. He basically said, just doubling the pipe would mean more water flowed. And that is plain wrong. There has to BE more water available to flow in the first place. nvm though.

        • +2

          @realfamilyman:
You should let this go. Your original statement of "wire is wire… unless it can't handle the current…" is vague and your original comment was saying "how can these be any better than any other cable". You're now changing your argument. You mentioned nothing about what you're now saying and even asked "how can these increase charge rate" initially.

        • +1

          @Shonky:

You're now changing your argument. You mentioned nothing about what you're now saying and even asked "how can these increase charge rate" initially.

          This.

Apologies @realfamilyman if you took offence to what I said. I don't want to argue with you when you've since changed your argument from the initial post. I also don't want to argue on the technicality of the words or lack there of what I said (that the current has to be able to be drawn and transmitted at a higher rate) as that, of course, is obviously and logically implied in the whole rationale.

    Pretty bad reviews here:
    http://www.amazon.com/Tronsmart-Charging-Smartphones-Micro-U…

It appears they wear out very quickly.

    • -1

Quite a minority considering 72% gave it 5 stars.

    • The ones that came with my car chargers seem to have reasonable connectors so far. I find generally with cheap cables is that it's not so much the locking tabs that cause the problems normally but the power/data pins tend to no longer make good contact. Going back to a better cable and it works fine so the phone/tablet socket seems to be still ok.

  • Thank you OP.

  • +1

Got these micro usb cables when I bought the tronsmart car charger + 5 port wall charger combo in the past deals. The hooks on the micro usb connector that came with the wall charger doesn't work anymore. It doesn't "click" into the phone and is very loose. The cable that came with the car charger is still okay. Got these and hope it lasts longer.

  • Rep, is it possible to buy just the short one?
Or anyone interested to share a couple of packs and I keep the short ones and you can keep the 2 metres one?

    • Unfortunately a pack cannot be broken up into several pieces.
